"Grand Hall Master."
Finally, after the silence subsided, Xiao Chen spoke. Today, both the Human King and Human Emperor appeared one after another, disrupting the tribal ceremony for the fallen warriors. Now that they had departed, it was time for the warriors of the tribe to be laid to rest.
"Xiao Clan Leader, no, to think that this marquis would witness the birth of a Divine Marquis with my own eyes is indeed a great fortune," the Ziyang God Marquis soon responded.
"As fellow Divine Marquises, naturally we shall treat each other as equals. You already possess such qualifications. Back at the Dragon Fall Mountain Range, Xiao Clan Leader, you spoke with great ambition. In just the lapse of a month, you have begun to realize it. I vaguely remember you said that the strong rise from the insignificant, and that the tribes struggle and fight in bloodshed. Today, the Gu Yuan Tribe has struggled in blood and fought for a piece of heaven and earth!"
There was a hint of sigh in the Ziyang God Marquis’s tone. In just a short month, the Gu Yuan Tribe had undergone such drastic changes, which couldn’t help but move him.
"Today, I have led the strong ones of the Ancestral Court to pay tribute to the deceased warriors. Next, I shall return to the Ancestral Court. As for the Imperial Edict from the Human Emperor that seals the Border Wasteland as the land of nobility for the Gu Yuan Tribe, once Xiao Clan Leader is done with tribal affairs and comes to the Ancestral Court, I will naturally hand over the divine object that embodies the fortune of the Border Wasteland into your hands," the Ziyang God Marquis finally said.
With the Border Wasteland sealed by the Imperial Edict as the Gu Yuan Tribe’s territory, the most important aspect was the fortune of the land’s lifeforce bestowed upon it, which naturally required a divine object to suppress. The Worship King Cauldron of the Gu Yuan Tribe was no longer sufficient to carry such fortune.
And as the Gu Yuan Tribe became the noble of the Border Wasteland Region, naturally, it would receive the fortune’s blessing from the Border Wasteland. Therefore, this divine object, the fortune-imbued Wild Cauldron of the Border Wasteland Region, must naturally be transferred to the Gu Yuan Tribe. This is an object that could suppress the fortune of a Supreme King Tribe!
The Gu Yuan Tribe receiving the blessings of the Border Wasteland Region did not mean that other tribes within the extensive Border Wasteland could no longer receive the favor of the human race’s fortune. The fortune they received now would not change, and should their tribes develop further, this fortune’s blessing might even increase. The promotion of their tribes could still proceed normally.
However, the combined fortune of these tribes constituted no more than twenty percent of the entire Border Wasteland’s fortune. Furthermore, given that the Gu Yuan Tribe had won the battle of fortune, the fortune of the Border Wasteland had doubled.
"Regarding the various matters of a Divine Marquis, when you come to the Ancestral Court later, I will naturally explain them to you in detail."
"Many thanks, Grand Hall Master. Xiao Mou is entangled with clan affairs but will surely attend the Ancestral Court in the future to handle related matters and also seek guidance about the secrets of being a Divine Marquis," Xiao Chen then responded with a bow of his fist.
The Border Wasteland Region being sealed for the Gu Yuan Tribe required some related handovers after the Imperial Edict was issued before the Gu Yuan Tribe could truly take charge of the Border Wasteland.
Moreover, with the hostile races rampaging wildly now, several great foreign tribes outside the Hollows were covetously eyeing the area. The Gu Yuan Tribe currently lacked the strength to alone defend the extensive Border Wasteland. The Ancestral Court still needed to sit in power. Thus, it would take some time before they could truly control the entire Border Wasteland.
"Elder!" Chunmu Old Ancestor approached, and Xiao Chen hurriedly bowed with a fist. He held immense respect for this elder in his heart.
"Well done, Border Wasteland Divine Marquis. You alone, Xiao Chen, have the qualifications to hold the title named after the Border Wasteland Region. From now on, the Border Wasteland will need you, the Gu Yuan, to oversee it."
With these words, Chunmu Old Ancestor cheerfully followed the Ziyang God Marquis and departed.
"Grand Elder, Elder Shi!"
Next came Elder Ming He and Elder Shi, the two elders who had provided much help to Xiao Chen before he grew up. Xiao Chen also held respect for them in his heart, and even now, regardless of how many times more powerful he had become, this respect would not be erased.
"I always said I didn’t see wrong, old man!"
Elder Shi cried out with a big smile, clearly overjoyed, even stepping forward to pat Xiao Chen’s shoulder, which Xiao Chen allowed without any hesitation, letting the elder express his happiness.
"Junior gives thanks to the two elders for your past support of me and the Gu Yuan Tribe." Even now, Xiao Chen maintained the respect of a junior as before, without any difference.
"Significant encounters lead to a dragon soaring through the wasteland. In the future, the Border Wasteland will be governed by you of the Gu Yuan."
Elder Ming He and Elder Shi then waved their hands and departed, followed by a group of older warriors from the Ancestral Court, all of whom Xiao Chen respectfully treated one by one.
While their strength was no longer enough to catch Xiao Chen’s attention, any warrior would ignite respect in their hearts for these elders who willingly sealed themselves within the ordeal of Blood Food.
"Lord Baron, we take our leave!"
"Sir Divine Marquis, our tribute is done, we bid farewell!"
After the Ziyang God Marquis left with the strong ones from the Ancestral Court, the many Border Wasteland warriors who had come to the Bronze Ancient City to pay tribute to the Gu Yuan Tribe also began to take their leave.
Today’s events had brought them immense shock, and they too needed to properly settle their feelings. After all, from now on, the Gu Yuan Tribe would no longer be an ordinary Battle Division like theirs, but had leaped to become the lord of all tribes in the Border Wasteland.
One day later.
The dim space was permeated with an air of decay, where stone lanterns stood at intervals, flames flickering within. This was where the Gu Yuan Tribe Soldiers found their final resting place, in this burial ground, a place for solace and remembrance.
This space was not a separate realm carved out from the Mountain River Seal but rather a secret realm space that Xiao Chen had stumbled upon and integrated into the Bronze Ancient City, repurposing it as the Gu Yuan Tribe’s cemetery.
The warriors of the Gu Yuan Tribe were all buried here, including the kin who had perished over the past eight hundred years in their ancestral land, now all reinterred in this new burial site.
Though the new burial ground seemed desolate, it had begun to take on a sense of order. The eternal lamps hissed gently, their faint green smoke curling through the air. The Gu Yuan Tribe was now preparing to inter the remains of a million of their fallen kin.
A simple wooden coffin, a grave pit not even quite a zhang deep, eventually became small mounds of earth.
Some of these warrior’s mounds were marked with the weapons they had used in life, while others had nothing more than empty coffins or a damaged weapon, perhaps a beast robe buried underneath.
In a single day, the space of burial mounds had seen the rise of a million new gravestones. As time would pass, likely it wouldn’t be long before more warriors would be laid to rest here.
Xiao Chen stood within the space, surrounded by countless tombstones, listening to the sounds of mourning. He took up a jar of blood wine, its seal broken with a pop and droplets began to fall. Soon, the blood wine from the vessel turned into a crystalline stream, drifting toward the sky vault of the entire space.
In an instant, the sky rained down wine, seeping into the million graves before him, the glistening droplets as red as blood and emitting a heady fragrance.
"Azure Blood stains the sky vault, spirits return to the Desolate Wilds, Xiao Chen pays tribute to you brave warriors."
The remaining blood wine in the jar was consumed in great gulps by Xiao Chen. The drink was vibrant and pure, the spicy gratitude stinging vivaciously through his body.
A million warriors had been laid to rest upon this earth, and soon the ceremony was over. Xiao Chen inhaled deeply, the space designated for the tribe’s burial ground imposing a heavy, oppressive feeling upon him.
Within a single day, as the Gu Yuan Tribe busied themselves burying a million fallen warriors, the Human Emperor arrived and bestowed an imperial edict. Gu Yuan Tribe was decreed to rule the Border Wasteland Region from afar, the Human Emperor revealed himself to the world, and Xiao Chen was conferred the title of Divine Marquis.
These events, momentous enough to shake the entire Eastern Wasteland, spread from Border Wasteland City across the whole Border Wasteland and even further, gaining momentum as they reached beyond the borders of the region.
It must be said that the Gu Yuan Tribe now possessed the strength to ascend to the ranks of a Legendary Marquis Department, capable of altering the political landscape of the Border Wasteland and influencing the balance of power in the nearby domains like the Ten Thousand Spirits Domain, the Ten Thousand Mountains Domain, and the Snow Peaks Realm.
Without looking far, just within the several domains neighboring the Border Wasteland, across tens of millions of miles of the Desolate Great Wasteland, no Legendary Marquis Department had taken a seat of power. With the emergence of the Gu Yuan Tribe, ruling from afar the Border Wasteland Region as their foundation, their influence was sure to extend over the surrounding domains.
...
With a million warriors buried, life in the Gu Yuan Tribe started to return to normal. However, within the tribe, there were still tens of thousands of warriors nursing injuries of varying severity, which would require time to heal.
Using the blood essence of the Blood Clan, humanity’s destiny intertwined with their flesh to enhance the aptitudes of the Gu Yuan Tribe’s people on that day, but there had been little focus on healing wounds.
Nevertheless, for the Gu Yuan Tribe, with the Hundred Herbs Hall and hundreds of Alchemists of various ranks, it was believed that the injuries of the Tribal Warriors would soon heal. Moreover, the veteran soldiers who had survived the great battle were certainly refined through countless skirmishes.
What followed was a time for the Gu Yuan Tribe to methodically convert the gains from the war into actual strength. Although their troops had suffered heavy casualties, those who remained, supported by abundant resources, were sure to make great strides forward.
Three days later, in the Tribal Grand Hall.
Xiao Chen, clad in a cyan battle robe, sat in the principal seat, the hall only hosting three elders and the master of the War Master Hall.
As for the other elders and revered members, they were all busy tending to the duties of their respective halls, including healing efforts.
"Clan Leader, disbursements for the kin of our fallen warriors have been distributed, along with the rewards bestowed by the Ancestral Court," reported the Grand Elder, his voice carried weight, but he looked visibly worn. The past three days spent bearing witness to countless instances of broken families had left him physically and emotionally drained, unsure of how to face the grieving widows and elders.
"You have worked hard, Grand Elder," said Xiao Chen, acknowledging the pressure the Grand Elder had been under.
"Reporting to the Clan Leader, this is the list of merits established by our warriors during the battle, and the corresponding rewards they should receive. I have made the arrangements, awaiting the Clan Leader’s review," the Third Elder swiftly presented a beast skin scroll covered with tiny seal script documenting the contributions made by the Gu Yuan Tribe’s many warriors.
