272: Chapter 266 Ghost Shadow Disappears!_1 272: Chapter 266 Ghost Shadow Disappears!_1 The Gu Yuan Tribe.
As the setting sun burned like fire with smoke spiraling upwards, the scent of meat filled the tribe.
Women hurriedly prepared dinner, waiting for the men who had gone hunting in the Great Wasteland to return.
As the sun rose, they departed; as it set, they returned.
The tribesman who had spent the day outside brought back the blood food they had harvested.
Except for the tribe’s six Centurions who alternated hunting in the Great Wasteland, there were many warriors who ventured into the Desolate Ancient Forest.
Their objective was to further refine their bodies and advance their martial arts!
Some burly men, bare-chested and gripping blood-stained weapons, carried the blood food they had hunted on their shoulders.
The powerful scent of blood could be detected from afar.
Yet this was the norm for the people living in this land.
People often greeted these warriors with a laugh.
As for the children, their eyes filled with anticipation.
They wanted to come forward and touch those ferocious beasts.
However, due to the intense scent of blood, they hesitated and did not proceed, causing much laughter among the tribe people.
Seeing their men returning with heavy loads of blood food, numerous women who were waiting at their doors hurried back to their Stone House.
In passing, they dragged their mud-smeared children playing outside, their ears pinched, back home.
Soon, it would be the most crucial day for all humans in the Great Wasteland – the annual festival to worship their ancestors.
Legends tell of this day when human tribes rose and initiated a timeless fight against foreign tribes, securing a territory for humankind.
This day is sacred to every human tribe member of the Great Wasteland.
They remember it forever.
On this day, every human tribe brings out their most abundant blood food to pay homage to their past and great heroes.
Of course, the Gu Yuan Tribe is no exception.
These past days, preparations were underway in the tribe to prepare the blood food and various sacrifices.
Their heroic spirits would be worshipped with five animals.
We come nightfall, a quietness descended upon the Gu Yuan Tribe.
The only thing unsettling this serene scene was the flickering light from the city wall’s watchtower, giving off a dim brightness.
Tonight, the Centurion Que Feng led his thousand War Soldiers on the night watch.
At this moment, except for those defending the city, the rest of the soldiers were divided into smaller squads, patrolling the tribe.
A squad of over thirty soldiers patrolled the isolated southwestern region of the tribe.
This area was a small undulating hill with scattered Blue Stone Houses yet to be completed, vaguely visible under the moonlight.
Just then, a cold wind blew out of nowhere from the city’s southwestern corner.
Sweeping past the city-defending soldiers, a boundless Black Mist gushed forth, slowly engulfing everything in its path.
Numerous ghost faces appeared within the dark mist.
“Be careful, there’s something strange about this black mist!”
A shout echoed.
The face of the leading Centurion changed drastically.
He realised that his shadow could barely penetrate the engulfing mist.
Instantly his blood surged, trying to burst out of the thick haze encompassing him.
The swirling, chilling black mist shrouded the Centurion even further.
What was even more alarming was that the Centurion realised the inky black mist was radiating a bone-chilling coldness and a hint of evil.
A single breath instantly resulted in a severe headache, with images of ghosts pervading deep within their souls, making it difficult to break free.
Ah!
A shriek came from behind as one of the tribesman’s face contorted, his blood vessels bulged, frantically tearing off his beast robe and scratching his body.
It seemed as if he was trying to peel off his skin.
Soon, his flesh was blurred and bloody.
“Hot…
too hot!
I’m burning!”
One of the soldiers seemed to feel like he was put into a furnace, as if his flesh and blood were being melted.
He continued to scream in agony.
Bizarre scenes played out within the small band of two to three dozen soldiers.
Various scenarios arose in everyone’s mind, seemingly radiating an incredible fear from deep within their hearts.
At times, they found themselves locked in a giant steamer, boiled by flames, their skin peeled off and then thrown into an oil furnace to render their fat.
Then, they were deboned and their sinews removed.
Finally, they were placed in a copper tripod and became a plate of food in the mouth of the foreign tribes, turning into a horrifying scene filling their soul’s depths.
At this moment, everyone’s face twisted into a grotesque horror, and they were already in a state of confusion.
It seemed they had fallen into an endless terror.
This fear originated from their souls.
Within the darkness, a massive ghost face seemed to appear, its bloody mouth continuously gnawing at their flesh and soul.
Whoosh!
All of a sudden, a young tribesman at the back of the team convulsed.
His body quickly deflated like a balloon with a hole, drying up at a visible speed.
Eventually, after all the blood and flesh were drained, his body turned into a thin layer of human skin, fluttering down to the ground in the cold wind.
At this moment, the Centurion was still struggling.
The original murky lights in his eyes revealed a hint of clarity.
He felt the boundless shadow energy that surrounded him.
This energy was colder than the ice yet penetrated more invasively, as if it had seeped into his marrow.
Shriek!
Like cold water poured into boiling oil, the Centurion’s surrounding ghastly black energy churned out waves of blood-red, turning into blood ice.
It clashed with the Centurion’s vital energy, a cold and a fiery force colliding with each other, creating a hissing sound.
“Human warrior, offer your soul and flesh to our great Ghost General.
You will achieve eternity!”
An eerily hollow voice echoed in the Centurion’s ear, seeming to emanate from all directions, as if masked by several layers of gauze, vague yet clear.
With the ghastly voice’s drumming, the ghost energy surrounding the Centurion increased several folds, and the protective blood energy in front of him was crushed instantly.
“Damn it!
How dare you run wild in my Gu Yuan Tribe!”
With veins popping out on his face, the Centurion’s teeth were gritted until they shattered.
His comrades-in-arms had succumbed to death right before his eyes within a mere moment.
His once determined face now wore a look of fear.
“Come!
Offer your soul, and gain eternity!”
The gloomy and chilling voice fell again.
The pitch-black, chilling energy swelled once again, like a wad of thick ink or a clump of congealed blood essence.
Eventually, the Centurion plunged into the boundless sea of blood and sank.
At midnight, the moon was dim, and the stars sparse.
A sharp scream pierced through the darkness, echoing throughout the tribe!
