Chapter 66: The Final Day

For the remaining duration of the buff he received from the Labyrinth, Kael stayed on the second floor and hunted the monsters that were relatively close to his rank.

It was because he knew that the C-Rank brought a qualitative leap, so he didn’t want to take unnecessary risks—especially since the temptations from the Crimson Tree were very strong on the second floor.

Kael feared he would lose control and fall into the illusion if he was in a weakened state. That would be terrible.

So, for three days straight, he fought and killed like a madman. His Draconic physique sustained him, so he didn’t really need anything else aside from some rest.

It also helped him in circles exploring the entire second floor, through which he also made a detailed map. It helped him learn a lot of things.

The Crimson Tree was at the center of everything, and the world here was shrouded in gray fog with an eternal night. As for the monsters, they were mostly related to the darkness and shadow element, which helped him even further.

The whole second floor was filled with these stealthy monsters that ranged from F-Rank to C-Rank. Sadly, the drop rate was incredibly low on the second floor. Even after so much hunting, he barely obtained a few things.

This also confirmed his guess of the Crimson Tree being the Boss—or at least related to the Boss—of the second floor.

After the floor reset of the first floor, Kiona and the twins joined him in the hunt. They actually defeated the Nether Wolf and its minions by themselves, showing their power and coordination.

From its loot, they only got a pair of daggers and a Flame Core, which could help them in various ways. The daggers were named Flamingo and provided resistance toward illusion and mental hexes.

However, its best enchantment was the complete immunity to the Crimson Tree’s illusions. They could still feel the tug at their emotions and thoughts, but the daggers provided a defense for that too.

It was as if these daggers were made specifically to deal with the Crimson Tree.

Nonetheless, Kael didn’t attempt to slay the Crimson Tree because he could feel the danger it possessed. Just because they had two advantages over the Crimson Tree, it didn’t mean they could cross ranks and actually slay a Demi-God.

So, the last day was mostly for Kiona and the twins to gather Soul Power. Kael just provided them with the map and told them where they could find the monsters, then left them to hunt for themselves.

The second floor was vast and filled with so many monsters that Kael would take more than two months of continuous grinding to actually empty it.

That was the conclusion Alpha came to after creating the complete map. She had also mentioned that there might be a few Spawners hidden in the gray fog.

Once they felt the buff leaving them, they came back to the main portal, ready to go back after their whole week of hunting in the Labyrinth.

They had not slept for a whole week and had spent most of the time hunting to use the buff to its full potential. So, they were very exhausted and knew they needed rest and sleep.

But even then, they were very happy with their bountiful harvest, with Soul Power being the main reward.

Even though Seth and Jon had only recently ranked up, they still managed to fill more than two-thirds of their Soul Core.

Kiona had contributed more, but her evolution stage was also higher, so she only managed to fill half of her D-Rank Soul Core.

But none of them compared to Kael, who had spent the most time hunting—and even with him being the highest in evolution stage among them, he had filled almost 90% of his Soul Core.

It just showed how much he had to grind without any rest.

Sadly, the buff ended. Otherwise, Kael was determined to reach the threshold of his rank.

Standing before the portal, they were all exhausted, but their eyes burned with happiness and satisfaction. They had taken one step forward toward their goals.

Nobody said anything, as words weren’t required here. They just took a step forward to enter the portal—but the whole floor suddenly began to quake as if a deadly earthquake had struck it.

Kael frowned and turned around toward the center of the second floor, where the Crimson Tree was located.

’Is this guy throwing tantrums?’ His lips twitched when he thought of that. ’You didn’t do anything when I was roaming around, but you’re now unhappy that we’re leaving?’

He shook his head and was about to tell them to turn around when Jon took a step forward and roared at the top of his lungs.

"You dare taunt us? Heh! Just wait for a while and we will come back to burn your whole wooden ass to the ground."

Jon instantly received three odd gazes, looking at him as if he was a complete idiot. Why was he taunting the Crimson Tree again?

Just then, the quaking stopped and the floor returned to normal, as if nothing had happened. It left the three of them stunned—and Jon with a smug look on his big face.

’This works?’

That was what they all were thinking.

Kael gave a glance at the giant lion beside him and thought, ’I really gave him the right name. Hmm, should I have chosen Dean Ambrose?’

He suppressed his silly thoughts and said, "Let’s go."

They passed through the portal and once again appeared in the boss room of the first floor. Before they could even move though—

"Master, did I do good?" Jon asked, excitement swirling in his eyes. "I scared that Crimson Tree."

’Who scared who?’ Kael’s lips twitched as he sighed and said, "You did good..."

Jon’s smile turned even wider hearing that, but it soon froze when he heard his master’s following words.

"Just remember to cut all connections with me when you do stuff like this again."

"W-What? Master, are you abandoning me?" Jon’s smug face morphed into an aggrieved panic. "I won’t do it again."

"Haha! I’m just kidding," Kael laughed and patted his snout. "You can taunt the enemies, and I’ll handle them."

After chuckling for a second, Kiona cleared her throat and spoke seriously, "Still, you should assess the situation before saying anything. The daggers’ aura can protect us, but what if that tree decided to use all its might? It’s a Demi-God, understand?"

Jon nodded in understanding. "I’ll need to see the enemy’s rank first before taunting them."

Kiona opened her mouth to say something but couldn’t find the words. She was way too familiar with this naughty brother of hers—but previously it was only limited to pranks.

He couldn’t speak before, but now...

"Master and Sister might forgive you, but I won’t," Seth growled as he smacked Jon’s face, making him stumble to the side. "Use that filthy mouth carefully. We’re twins, so what if one day someone targets me instead of you?"

"Brother, you’re giving me more reason to do it," Jon growled to himself, feeling jolts of pain coming from his cheek.

Kael smiled, watching their banter. This was the atmosphere he wanted to create for his empire.

He sighed as he remembered something.

’Labyrinths are a big deal in this world, so it definitely alerted some churches or at least Demi-Gods. I’ll need to deal with them.’
