Chapter 64: The Flaw

Kael was fully alert and even had Alpha checking out for any dangers. Fortunately, nothing attacked them in the fog, and they safely reached the portal by following the map.

As they stared at the portal, all of them waited for Kael’s orders. They had two options—either retreat to the first floor, which would waste their buff of double Soul Power, or continue their search for monsters in this fog, hoping they didn’t encounter another Demi-God.

Kael had already thought of that, so he made the decision swiftly. "Seth and Jon will leave this floor and shift our loot and other stuff that I’ve talked about back to our lair. Of course, you can hunt any monsters to increase your level. But staying here is nothing but a death sentence."

The twins were reluctant, but they knew very well that if they stayed, they would only be a burden to their master. So they nodded after some thought.

"Kiona and I will stay and search the second floor for any potential monsters that we can slay and use to increase our ranks while also securing a safe area for us," Kael said, glancing at the lioness, who was clearly very excited to spend some time with him.

The twins understood their task and turned to enter the portal. Just as they were about to step into it, Kael stopped them.

"Wait!" Kael had a strange and confused look on his face as he asked, "Who here took the loot from the Nether Wolf?"

His question stumped the three of them, as they looked at each other in confusion. Then, the twins shook their heads, and Kiona also showed her confusion.

"Fuck!" Kael cursed under his breath. "Did this tree influence my thoughts even from a different floor?"

Kael wasn’t someone who would forget such matters, so the only possible situation was that the Crimson Tree had influenced him from across the floors.

One had to know that some higher-level Labyrinths worked differently from lower-level Labyrinths. Their floors weren’t as simple as a lower section in the same Labyrinth.

No! It was a whole different dimension in these Labyrinths, so technically, the Crimson Tree had influenced his thoughts in forgetting about the loot from across dimensions.

This was scary—sending chills down his body.

’This is a Demi-God? And it’s even in a restrained state?’

Fortunately, Kael was used to bizarre and terrifying things because of his experience with the Corrupted Creatures, so he maintained lucidity and a cool head.

He turned toward Kiona, who had a thoughtful look on her face, and said, "Go with them. This floor is way too dangerous. Unless we find a way to deal with the Crimson Tree’s influence, you all can’t hunt here."

Kiona quickly caught on to his words and asked, "Are you staying here then?"

"Yes. I have high resistance to illusions and mind attacks, so I’ll be fine," Kael gave her an assuring smile and said. "But you should go and help the twins. I also have a task for you."

Kiona straightened up, her ears perking up. It was the first mission from her master, and she intended to complete it no matter how difficult it was.

"I suspect that the reason that tree influenced my mind on the first floor was because of the loot," Kael said. "It might contain something that allows us to resist the illusions."

It was just his guess, and he was pretty sure about it because he couldn’t quite believe that Tharnyx would set up a death trap for his own people.

Now, it was clear that he had left behind something, but they didn’t use it under the tree’s influence.

"The loot usually disappears in a few minutes if nobody touches it in that time frame," Kael sighed. "So, I want you to help the twins, and when the Labyrinth resets, slay the Boss to get the loot."

However, there was still the problem of the Crimson Tree’s influence.

[You don’t need to worry about that, Master. The knowledge of the Crimson Tree and its abilities left a psychological cue in their soul. So even if they are influenced, that psychological cue would bring them back to their senses.]

’That’s good,’ Kael heaved a sigh of relief and said, "Now leave before you get influenced again."

The Crimson Tree’s influence on the first floor was clearly very small, so Kael wanted them to be in the safe zone as soon as possible.

The three of them gave a bow to him and then stepped into the portal, leaving Kael all alone in the dark, barren land.

He cracked his neck slightly and knocked on his head. "Damn these temptations. If I stay here for a long time, I might really go crazy."

He was still getting his thoughts influenced, but now that he was aware of the Tree, along with his resistance, he could push back against those temptations.

"Let’s see what else we have here," Kael muttered as he activated his smile.

[Beast Sense]

[Lightning Mantle]

[Aether Scales]

Just as he activated his third skill, he felt a pang of pain assaulting his mind, reminding him of his mana usage.

’I guess it does put a strain if I use too much,’ Kael sighed and deactivated his third skill. He would just fight in his weakened state.

Just then, he sensed something on his right through [Beast Sense], making him grin because he could sense that the monster wasn’t much stronger than him.

’The hunt begins.’

He pushed himself as he arrived near the monster in a matter of seconds and directly used his [Draconic Claws] to attack the enemy. Because of his extensive use of the skill, he could now use it with very little mana.

However, he didn’t feel any resistance from the monster as his claws passed through it as if he was slashing water.

Only then did he see the monster clearly as it moved like liquid and created some distance between them.

It was a dark shadow that was hard to spot due to the fog, but Kael could see the razor-sharp teeth forming in the shadow creature.

It was a D-Rank Shadow-type monster, and shadow was immune to physical damage to a certain degree.

"You think I only have my claws?" Kael smirked, letting the lightning surge through him as he threw a [Storm Pulse] at the shadow.

After his advancement, his skills had grown considerably stronger, and lightning was also the bane of dark and shadowy monsters, so the monster died in a single attack.

"So it’s filled with Shadow Creatures. Perfect for me."
