Chapter 60: Murals of Tharnyx
Chapter 60: Murals of Tharnyx
The Nether Wolf’s self-destruction flooded the hall with lava, as all the wildmutts disappeared alongside the boss. The lava also began to slowly vanish into thin air, leaving a perfectly dark hall behind.
Amidst this darkness, Kael’s group stood upright because of their flames. That also saved them from the hot lava, as their resistance towards anything with the fire element was exceptionally high.
It was especially true for Kiona, who possessed an Epic-Stage Fire Affinity. This lava was different from the lava lake, so she easily fended it off without any harm.
Standing near the altar, Kael stared at the spot where the Nether Wolf had self-destructed and once again realized the importance of Evolution and the effectiveness of his Ultimate Skill.
After all, the only reason they were able to defeat the Boss and its Minions so easily was because of the changes their Evolution had brought.
Not to mention how Kiona used one of his skills to defeat the enemies. Regarding that, Kael wasn’t really surprised as he had already given permission to Alpha to grant the majority of his skills to her when the bond between them had deepened.
’Finally, we can move on to the second floor,’ Kael thought, feeling the rush of Soul Power. The Nether Wolf gave much more than any of the monsters he had slain till now.
’Before that, this hall might have something of Tharnyx,’ Kael thought as he looked around.
It was the Boss Room, so Kael was sure that if Tharnyx had plans of leaving anything behind, he would definitely use the Boss’s room.
As the twins and Kiona came toward him, he smiled at them and said, "You three did great. At this rate, we might become a small nation, but we would definitely be much more powerful than any other tribes here."
It was what he wanted all along since he knew he couldn’t have a large nation right at the start. So, he wanted to nurture a few, but ridiculously powerful, subordinates.
His enemies would definitely have the number game, so he would also need some people supporting him.
Kiona’s face bloomed as she said, "Master, did you see the skill I used? We have a deep bond between us."
Kael chuckled and gave a light rub on her head and twitching ears, which she certainly liked—and that was clear from her blissful expression.
The twins looked at each other and wondered if they didn’t worship their master enough to not receive anything.
Kael saw through their thoughts but didn’t comment. Just as he was about to order them to look around the hall, he felt tremors beneath him as the altar not far from him shifted, opening a portal above it.
"That must be the entrance to the second portal," Kael said. "We’ll explore it later. First, go and see if there is anything good in the hall."
Although eager to enter the second floor, the three of them nodded and left to search on their own. The hall was very big, so it was better that they searched on different sides.
Kael also chose a side and began to look through every corner and wall for anything. However, he found nothing, leaving him disappointed.
But that was short-lived as Kiona shouted from the other end, "Master, I found something."
’Noice.’
Arriving near Kiona, who was standing before a dark bricked wall, Kael looked up at the mural painted on the wall. It was lifelike, and if one looked at it for too long, they might suffer from terrible hallucinations.
However, all of that had no effect on Kael as he studied the mural, since it might contain some secret from the Fourth Epoch.
The mural was a simple one and depicted a humanoid being sitting on a mountain. Their eyes were closed, with a tear sliding down their cheeks, and they held a human baby wrapped in robes above them, as if sacrificing it to someone.
Kael frowned, not understanding what the Shadow General of the Fourth Epoch wanted to tell through the mural. It looked like a simple and common action followed by cults.
’There are many rituals which require the sacrifice of newborn babies, so this doesn’t tell much. Is he warning about some cults or maybe this is the story of someone? Tharnyx himself?’
In his confusion, Kael didn’t see the text written beside the mural—not until Kiona pointed it out.
"Master, this is in the same language the plaque was written in..." she said. "Maybe it tells what the mural is about?"
Kael looked over to the text. Indeed, it was written in English, and unlike the plaque where only a few words were written, there was a whole paragraph here.
[Hello, fellow Earthian...]
Seeing the start, Kael smiled as his guess proved to be right. Tharnyx really did come from Earth.
[If you can read this, then it could just mean two things. You’re either from Earth or you have managed to decipher the English language, which isn’t really a tough thing, so I did leave behind some mechanism for it. So the chances are low. That’s why I’m sure you’re a fellow Earthian.]
’Some problem in learning English?’ Kael raised an eyebrow and proceeded forward.
[I know you must have a lot of questions—like how you got here, what happened to your old world, who did this, right?]
’Nope! Old man did that, but I guess you didn’t know who transmigrated you or maybe even reincarnated you.’
[I would have loved to tell you all about those exciting things on a nice tea outing, but it seems impossible. We are losing the war, and "He" is also being besieged by those two bastards. Seriously, they are painting His Majesty as some heretic. Ahem, I should stop here on this matter.]
’First one is for sure the Dawnfire Goddess, then what about the second one?’ Kael wondered. ’There were two deities involved? Oh wait, it was a full-blown war, so maybe their interest was the same or something.’
He paused and thought, ’Doesn’t this mean I’ll just need to look out for churches who have good relations with the Church of the Dawnfire Goddess, or simply look for churches who are against the beasts.’
While he was curious about what happened with the Beast God, he wasn’t gathering intel to avenge him or anything. He wanted to know who killed him so that he was cautious against them.
He didn’t know if they had killed the Beast God for something related to him or something related to all beasts. If it was the latter, he had to be careful of them as they might attempt to kill him too, considering what he planned to do.
’They don’t allow the beasts to grow, and there are also many restrictions and discrimination, so it’s likely the latter. What do beasts have that threatens even the Gods?’
He suppressed his thoughts and continued reading.
[I’m sure you understand what happens to the losing side of war, so I have some stuff I want to pass down to the beasts—as they will be at the mercy of other Gods. I hate it, so I ask you to fulfill my wish. Of course, you won’t be without benefits. Conquer this Labyrinth and you’ll be surprised.]
