Legacy of a Benevolent Lord
Chapter 29: Azhula finds a Pillar of Support.

Chapter 29: Azhula finds a Pillar of Support.

It had only been a few months since she last saw Selene during the Virelyn ancestral rites.

But now, Selene’s aura was so much more refined, almost unreal, her beauty dazzling.

Why was she here?

She glanced around once more, noticing that the ’mist’ had vanished, revealing a man who seemed to have stepped right out of a dream.

His dark hair and golden eyes were a striking contrast. He lounged comfortably on the couch in his loose robes, a hint of his muscular chest showing.

Remembering the steward’s words and feeling as if she might get lost in that captivating light if she kept gazing at him, she quickly turned her attention to Selene...

Who radiated a similar aura, but with a much gentler presence that was easier to look at.

Could it be that the Virelyn family intended to marry Selene off to him?

Azhula’s mind spun with confusion.

Selene moved closer, her voice low and warm. "Azhula, I need a favor. Will you help me?"

Azhula instinctively reached out, but then quickly flinched.

Selene’s skin was ice-cold, the chill piercing straight to her bones.

"So cold..." Azhula gasped.

Selene pulled her hand back quickly, a flash of guilt crossing her face.

Her Pure Yin Divine Bone was still reshaping her body, and the freezing energy wasn’t something she could fully control yet.

Only by practicing martial arts with Riven could she stabilize it.

If a recently ascended Innate being couldn’t easily endure a strike from her now, how could an ordinary person like Azhula?

"Are you alright?" Selene asked, worried.

Azhula shook her head briskly, pushing the discomfort away. "Miss, what do you need?"

Selene’s voice lowered, almost a whisper. "Your disguise skills... I need you to impersonate me and go back to Peony Manor."

Azhula stared at her, stunned. "Then... where will you go?"

A faint blush colored Selene’s cheeks. She looked away shyly. "I’m going with... Master Riveron. Traveling the lands. Cultivating."

Azhula’s mouth dropped open.

She clamped a hand over it, exclaiming in disbelief, "Miss... you’re eloping with the Crown Prince?!"

Eloping?!

Selene’s face burned crimson. She lowered her head and stammered, "It’s not... It’s not like that... We’re just... traveling together..."

Even as she said it, she couldn’t deny how it sounded.

Riven stood nearby, smiling lazily.

He looked at the girls as if he were watching a drama series unfold and said.

"Azhula, if you agree to help, I’ll make sure your Young Master gets what he desires."

Azhula looked at him. But the moment they met, his heart started pounding.

That smile, calm, effortless, yet drawing people in like a spring breeze.

And those eyes...

Under his gaze, she felt her soul tremble. She quickly lowered her head.

Suddenly, she understood. Pieces that didn’t feel like they were missing appeared before her.

Her Young Master thought he was playing chess.

But Riveron Ashvale was already several steps ahead.

Would warning Murong Fu make any difference now?

She knew it wouldn’t. Murong Fu’s arrogance wouldn’t allow him to listen to a woman.

If she spoke out, he would only question her and Azira’s loyalty.

Wouldn’t you sacrifice anything for the restoration of the Kingdom?

She could already hear Murong Fu’s cold interrogation.

Fortunately, Selene was here.

If Miss truly became the young mistress of the Duke’s residence, then she and Azira would have someone powerful to protect them.

Azhula’s chest tightened.

Madam Virelyn had always disapproved of Selene being with Young Master.

Now that Selene had found someone else, Murong Fu’s last chances were gone.

Azhula straightened up and smiled softly. "Miss, I’ll help you."

But deep down, her loyalty had already shifted to Selene. Better to serve her than a lord discarding them like Chess pieces.

Murong Fu had handed them away like bargaining chips.

The coldness of that act carved a scar in Azhula’s heart, which had been scarred once because of her ’mother’.

She wasn’t Azira, innocent and obedient. Too young to remember anything under her protection.

She had been abandoned once as a child, and she knew better than anyone: when someone discards you once, they’ll discard you again.

And she would never let that happen to her and her sister again.

........

Scene change.

Exile’s garden was not ’just’ a garden. It’s acres upon acres of land.

The Sundawn Duke manor lay nestled among serene lakes and majestic mountains, the scenery breathtaking in every direction.

Next to the stream was a modest, small pavilion, its reflection glimmering in the undulating water while a soft breeze created lazy concentric circles on the surface.

Inside, Selene Virelyn and Azhula sat together, their heads close as they whispered and giggled, sharing secrets and laughter.

Much of their chatter revolved around Selene’s recent adventures.

Disguise techniques, Azhula knew, required more than a face — they demanded a perfect grasp of one’s personality and memories.

Selene, however, wasn’t explaining her mannerisms. She was mostly... ’complaining’.

"He told me that the Heavenly miracle like Pill was the ten-day death pill," she huffed, cheeks puffed.

"And then," she said dramatically, "he drew the worst painting of me you could imagine!"

Azhula tried to keep a straight face but failed, her laughter spilling out.

Selene pouted harder. "He even dragged me onto a crane to fly over the city’s night sky without asking me!"

To Azhula, these complaints felt more like sweet little grumblings, the kind a girl shares when she’s secretly fond of someone.

Despite her vast knowledge of martial arts, Selene’s heart remained that of a young girl, much like the village maidens or the lovely beauties by the lake.

When Azhula learned Selene had not actually ascended to Innate life, she was stunned.

Then what were all those manifestations for?!

Although curious, as Selene didn’t explain much, which Azhula understood and didn’t ask.

She cast a subtle glance at Riven, who sat quietly not far away, sipping another cup of tea.

From his relaxed manner and the way he treated Selene with such attention, Azhula had to admit to himself that Murong Fu was outdone by him in every way.

Bitterness stirred faintly in her heart.

Since being handed away like merchandise, her feelings toward Murong Fu had soured deeply.

After hearing the full extent of Selene’s escapades, Azhula chuckled.

"Miss, your adventures this past month outshine all your previous seventeen years!"

Selene, blushing prettily, elbowed her lightly. "Azhula, you’re not Murong Master’s maid anymore. Call me ’Sister.’"

A flicker of emotion crossed Azhula’s eyes, but she quickly masked it.

She smiled softly. "Alright, Sister."

"Impersonating you isn’t the hard part," Azhula said thoughtfully. "But my cultivation’s weak. I’m afraid Madam Virelyn might see through me."

"What’s there to worry about?" Riven said casually, setting down his teacup.
