Chapter 55: Chapter 55: The Tamed Girl

After the rain cleared, the sky became even more transparent.

The young girl, with her flat chest held high and shoulder bag hanging from her arm, walked down the spacious road and stepped into the little courtyard with the words "Hanamaru" inscribed on it.

Under the eaves, two pots of spotless white lilies rested quietly on wooden stands at the door.

The girl leaned in to look, poked her head out, and sniffed gently with her nose.

"Mm~~ what a wonderful fragrance."

Ayaka Rie opened her eyes, looked at the core of the lilies, and suddenly frowned, "Why does it always feel like something’s missing, so bare, but Hanabi-chan has actually started gardening?"

"Did she learn it from that Uesugi guy?"

Images of the Uesugi Family’s flourishing flowers appeared in Ayaka Rie’s mind.

"Well, say what you will, that Uesugi guy does have quite a knack for gardening."

She nodded to herself, subconsciously glancing at the Uesugi Family next door.

The house with the blinds was quite conspicuously facing this way.

She then pressed the doorbell.

After a series of chaotic sounds, Hanamaru Hanabi’s flustered voice came from the speaker at the door:

"Ah! Rie-chan, you came so early, please wait a moment!"

With hurried footsteps descending the stairs, the door was opened.

Sitting by the door in an oversized light blue tracksuit was Hanamaru Hanabi, and Ayaka Rie happily nodded to her in greeting:

"Good morning, Hanabi-chan."

Hanamaru Hanabi pinched her sleeve, looking at the red bow on Ayaka Rie’s collar: "Good morning, Rie-chan, your bow looks great today..."

"Hehe," Ayaka Rie put her hands on her hips, puffed out her chest confidently, "Doesn’t it?"

"Come on in, it’s a little chilly outside."

"Okay."

Ayaka Rie walked in, took off her little leather shoes at the entrance, and slid her nylon-clad feet into the slippers.

"By the way, is that Uesugi guy here yet?"

"Uesugi-kun is already here."

Ayaka Rie peeked into the living room, "I came early on purpose, but it turns out I still couldn’t beat him."

In the living room, the warm air from the air conditioner floated around, and Uesugi Sakura sat cross-legged on the right side of the coffee table, nibbling on cookies that Hanamaru Meiko had baked in advance, watching a rerun of "Monday’s Late Night Watching" on TV.

Hearing the footsteps, he did not turn his head, continuing to watch ahead.

"On the issue of Osaka’s crime rate being the highest in the nation for 15 consecutive years"

Host (offering the microphone): Do you have anything to share?

Osaka lady: Yes! Haha (suddenly covering her mouth to laugh), when I was bathing at home before, it felt so hot, so I opened the door, and then I saw a strange man standing in the living room.

Host: Eh! Did a stranger see everything?

Osaka lady: Yes (covering her mouth with a laugh), but the only thing missing was just this, hahaha~~~

Osaka lady’s friend: (unable to hold back laughter) That’s the only thing in her house worth something.

"Uesugi." Ayaka Rie called out while sitting next to the coffee table.

Hearing this, Uesugi Sakura turned his head: "You’re here, let’s start then."

"Pfft!"

Seeing his face, Ayaka Rie suddenly covered her mouth, struggling to hold back laughter, "Why is there another wound on your face?"

"Oh, this," Uesugi Sakura casually touched the new white bandage on his left cheek, "I fell."

Ayaka Rie dismissively waved her hand, "Fell? That’s a tired old excuse, totally unconvincing."

"I fell at home."

"What’s the difference?"

"The difference is it happened at home."

Ayaka Rie took a cookie, "Talking to you, I never expect to get anything out of you."

"Rie-chan, your tea."

Receiving the cup of hot tea from Hanamaru Hanabi, Ayaka Rie smiled broadly:

"Heehee, thank you, Hanabi-chan."

"You’re welcome," Hanamaru Hanabi shook her head while holding the tray, "No need."

"Uesugi-kun."

"Thank you."

Uesugi Sakura took a sip of tea, said to Ayaka Rie sitting directly across, "Alright, get out the math workbook Haneda-sensei assigned yesterday, do it once, and I’ll go through each problem with you afterward."

"Uesugi-kun, do you know you’re really no fun this way?" Ayaka Rie mumbled while munching on a cookie and sipping her tea.

"This study session is to help you reach your goal of entering the top ten in the monthly test."

"I know, but can’t we rest a little first? It’s been so long since I’ve been to Hanabi’s house." Ayaka Rie looked around.

Uesugi Sakura looked at her, calmly answered:

"No."

Ducking on the floor in front of the coffee table, Hanamaru Hanabi softly told Ayaka Rie:

"Rie-chan... better listen to Uesugi-kun... finish the study tasks first..."

"Alright then."

Ayaka Rie responded decisively.

After hearing Hanabi’s words, she looked at her kneeling posture, the white stockings outlining her beautiful legs, creating a distinct contrast.

"But Hanabi, how can you say ’listen to Uesugi-kun’? You haven’t been tamed by him, so you shouldn’t say that."

"Tamed... what does it mean...?"

Hanamaru Hanabi tilted her head in confusion, looking again at Uesugi Sakura, who was watching TV, "If being tamed by Uesugi-kun means I can say that, then?"

"No way!" Ayaka Rie suddenly stood up, "Absolutely not!!"

"Why...?"

"There’s no why, no means no!"

Ayaka Rie made a large ’X’ with her hands.

"But Hanabi thinks what Uesugi-kun said is right, Rie-chan, you must finish your study tasks first."

"Studying is fine, but not being tamed!"

"Taming, is it like a Beast Tamer making animals obey?"

Hanamaru Hanabi still couldn’t understand what the words meant, her little head full of confusion, "If Rie-chan were tamed by Uesugi-kun like Hanabi, would she also seriously listen to him?"

Ayaka Rie became flustered, questioning Uesugi Sakura: "What have you been indoctrinating Hanabi with!"

Uesugi Sakura calmly took a sip of tea, continued watching "Monday’s Late Night Watching" on TV:

"I haven’t been indoctrinating her with anything, it’s you who’ve been filling her with strange concepts. In her understanding, ’taming’ only means listening carefully to someone."

"Is... it my fault?"

"The meaning... isn’t that just it?" Hanamaru Hanabi’s innocent gaze shifted back and forth between the two, utterly unable to grasp why they were acting this way.

"..."

Uesugi Sakura’s words left Ayaka Rie speechless.

"Ahem!"

She cleared her throat, unsure of how to explain, so she nodded to the inquisitive Hanamaru Hanabi:

"Yes, that’s right, that’s exactly what it means."
