Chapter 289: Chapter 228: Going to London

Thirty thousand feet above the ground.

An enormous airplane darted through the clouds and descended, after a 12-hour journey, preparing to land at Heathrow Airport, thousands of kilometers away from Tokyo.

The grass, runways, and terminals of the airport, and even the ground staff below, became clearer and clearer.

The plane landed, the lights inside the cabin came on, and soothing music flowed from the speakers above the seats.

Uesugi Sakura, who had been resting his eyes, opened them and glanced at the time on his wristwatch.

10:23:56

He turned his head and looked at the tarmac outside the window.

The sky was pitch black, with only the blinking lights appearing slightly more prominent.

He stared for a while, waiting for his eyes to adjust to the light, before remembering that the time on his watch was Tokyo time and he was now in London, England.

Adjust the time back by 8 hours.

02:24:46

Once the plane came to a halt, its engines stopped.

After waiting for a moment, the passengers in the cabin unfastened their seatbelts, stood up one by one, and retrieved their backpacks and suitcases from the overhead compartments.

An English woman was sitting next to Uesugi Sakura, and every time he looked out the window, he would see her thoughtful profile.

She seemed like a cultured person.

When he stood up to get his luggage, he casually helped her take down her suitcase as well.

The blonde woman with blue eyes stared at his face, smiled, and said in English:

"Thank you, you are very gentlemanly."

Uesugi Sakura, with a backpack on, replied in English, "It’s nothing."

Amidst the airplane broadcasts and the sound of the passengers’ shoes tapping on the cabin floor, Uesugi Sakura left the cabin.

He walked through the jet bridge onto the broad ground below.

Not far off, the rows of lights in the terminal glistened like fireworks, illuminating the dark Heathrow Airport, and even seemed to add a faint red to the London night sky.

The breeze brushing against his face made Uesugi Sakura inhale deeply a few more times.

Not that the air in London was particularly good, but because it was his first time here, he felt very fresh.

Also, the 12-hour enclosed environment on the plane made him yearn more for the open outdoor air.

Uesugi Sakura got on a bus heading to the terminal.

This was his first trip abroad, and most of those around him were foreigners with blonde hair and blue eyes, and faces covered in stubble.

And the scent of perfume filled the air.

Compared to women, the scent on well-dressed men was even stronger.

After getting off the bus and finding his luggage, Uesugi Sakura continued walking out.

Outside was a circle of people waiting for relatives to disembark, and after scanning all the faces in the crowd, he hung his head and continued walking out.

Perhaps there was a tiny bit of hope.

But he hadn’t told her he was coming to England, so it was impossible for her to be waiting to pick him up.

Dragging his luggage, Uesugi Sakura walked to a bakery in the airport filled with exotic decorations.

He glanced at the price list.

"One croissant with almond, please."

After paying 3 pounds, he sat on a chair in the airport, placed his luggage beside him, and started eating the bread wrapped in kraft paper.

At the airport, eating bread alone right after getting off the plane.

Uesugi Sakura couldn’t help but mock himself: just the sound of it was lonely.

Halfway through the bread, he started scrolling through his phone, thinking about which hotel to stay at tonight.

And how he might secretly find her tomorrow without notifying her.

Every time he thought about regretting not directly inviting her back to Tokyo, Uesugi Sakura also felt a bit of reluctance to see her.

If she had indeed agreed to him again without hesitation, did that mean she would never grow?

But the moment he looked up, he caught a glimpse of a small yellow hat opposite him.

Perhaps because he was too sensitive to that departing figure wearing the hat, Uesugi Sakura felt as if his brain was jolted.

His gaze, slowly lowered to that adorable sleeping face.

...

...

Pairs of high heels and leather shoes tapped on the shiny floor of the airport, mixing with the hurried footsteps, the sound of luggage wheels, and the airport broadcasts echoing in his ears.

The girl he hadn’t seen for half a month was quietly sleeping on the chair opposite.

Dragging his luggage, Uesugi Sakura sat down next to her.

Without disturbing her sleep, he carefully studied her attire and face.

Under the small hat pinned with a white flower, her warm face still exuded a tender pink, and her closed eyes, like her breathing, were extremely calm.

In a white dress, she was like a series of cherry blossoms stretching under the white clouds of April spring, making one’s heart soften with just one glance.

Sometimes, silence is the best language.

Uesugi Sakura merely sat by her side, inhaling the faint lily fragrance coming from her as he ate the rest of the almond croissant in his hand.

In the busy airport where people came and went, only her sweet sleeping face beside him could warm the momentary loneliness hidden in his heart.

...

Her eyes moved slightly, and as the drowsiness faded, Hanamaru Hanabi opened her eyes, finding herself leaning against someone’s shoulder amid the gradually brightening blur.

The feeling was very familiar, very nostalgic, and very reassuring.

This feeling made her not even turn her head to look at him, still leaning on his shoulder, she called softly:

"Sakura-kun..."

"..."

"Did you miss me?"

"Mm..."

"I’m not one to say such cheesy things, but I have to admit, during the time you’ve been away, I did miss you."

Uesugi Sakura didn’t dare look at her face again.

"How did Hanabi know I would be here?"

"Uncle Yugetsu told me." Hanamaru Hanabi had hurried to the airport right after hearing he was coming, barely past noon, "Sakura-kun... did you come to see Hanabi?"
