41: Chapter 37 Infiltrating the Enemy Camp 41: Chapter 37 Infiltrating the Enemy Camp With deft hands and feet, he stripped the armor and clothes from the body of a fallen Kantadar Cavalryman, and Leon, without a change in his expression, donned the equipment that had been pilfered from the dead.
With Azeryan’s help, he neatly arranged the various connections of the armor upon himself.
After adjusting his arm armor and shin armor, Leon bent down to pick up his longbow and secured the cavalry saber at his waist, kicked his boots to make sure they were snug, and finally raised his hand to click the faceplate of his helmet into place.
He turned around to look at his companions who had already changed into their armor.
Enshrouded by faceplates and helmets, Azeryan and Lokhak were indistinguishable from the outside.
At this moment, as long as they didn’t lift the barbute characteristic of the Kantadar army, they looked no different from those other men.
Of course, except for Azeryan, who could speak Urian, Leon and Lokhak would immediately reveal their identities if they spoke a word.
Lifting his faceplate once more, Leon called upstairs, “Lena, are you changed yet?
We need to go.”
“Mhm~!
I’m ready, wait for me.”
The girl, now clothed and with a backpack slung over her shoulder, promptly responded from the second floor and hurried down the stairs.
When she came down and saw the three men, the brunette instinctively shivered at their appearance.
Clearly, the brutal and terrifying Kantadar Cavalry had left an indelible impression of fear on her.
Leon waited until the girl, whose dress had been previously torn, had changed into their discarded clothes before he gestured for her to follow.
The group left the windmill, closed the wooden door, and untied the reins of the horses tied outside, then they helped the girl mount one of the steeds.
The three of them escorted Lena, the village girl, to the eastern slope of the hill before setting her down.
“Do you know how to get to the nearby town?
We can’t take you any further,” Leon asked.
“Yes!” The girl’s eyes were red as she vigorously nodded her head.
“I know the way.
Don’t worry, big brother, I’ll find the Lord’s army to help, and you all must escape safely with Sister Olivia!”
Leon lifted his iron-gloved hand to ruffle her hair, “I’ll take your good omen to heart.
Hurry along now, and be careful on the road.”
The girl wiped her tears, turned around, and ran off into the distance.
Watching her figure disappear, Leon pulled down his faceplate, tugged at the reins, gently spurred his horse, and rode swiftly towards Selva Village with his companions.
Leading the way, Azeryan and the others rode in silence.
According to what the girl had last seen, Olivia was being held in the community hall at the center of the village.
Leon could only hope that Azeryan’s verbal skills would successfully deceive the watchful enemy.
In such a hurry, there was really no more reliable rescue plan to concoct; they had to rely on adapting to the situation as it unfolded.
Leon knew in his heart that such reckless action was madness.
And yet, from the moment they learned of Olivia’s whereabouts from that girl, the three of them didn’t hesitate or debate further, unanimously making the perilous decision.
Whether it was the righteous anger at abandoning a friend in distress.
Or the hatred for the Kantadar thugs.
None of the young men would regret the risks and sacrifices they might face.
“Leon, I suddenly feel like we’re knights trying to rescue the princess in some heroic drama,” joked Azeryan, taking the lead.
“Then I hope this drama isn’t some foolish tragedy, at least,” Leon said with a wry smile.
“Illaril watches over us; this will not be a tragedy.
My sister is waiting for me…
to tell her about today, and she’ll surely be proud,” Lokhak’s voice rang out muffled and resolute from behind his mask.
…With courage, and a touch of trepidation tucked deep in their hearts, the three rode into the entrance of the village.
However, to their surprise, they encountered neither the anticipated interrogation, nor did they meet a single patrol along the roads within the village.
All the way, they only sporadically saw horses tied outside the doors of some houses, and occasionally, they could hear the abominable acts of violence and sin within.
Looking at the limbs and bodies unceremoniously left in the streets and alleys, Leon felt an uncontrollable surge of anger.
Elderly men, young adults, women, teenagers, children…
such tragedies that he had only read about in history books were now tormenting his conscience, born from a peaceful modern era.
Filthy bursts of violent laughter came from a side alley they passed, and the three men instinctively looked over.
A few disheveled Kantadar Attendant Cavalry surrounded a shadowy figure, committing an act so cruel it would outrage both gods and men.
But the woman in the middle, with her limbs hanging limply and her body full of wounds, seemed so devoid of life that it appeared as though she bore no signs of vitality left.
Lokhak’s arms trembled uncontrollably; his mother had died in such a heinous act!
He wanted nothing more than to charge in and slaughter those beasts!
Leon, too, was filled with a murderous rage, he gritted his molars, forcing himself to turn away, unable to bear the sight of the carnage.
(Urian Language) “Get lost!
Worthless mercenary, don’t disrupt our fun.”
A Kantadar Knight Attendant, half-naked, saw the three “Hired Cavalry” at the entrance of the alley and waved them away impatiently, as if shooing them off.
Azeryan caught a glimpse of Lokhak’s slightly trembling body next to him and, suppressing his anger, warned his companion, “Don’t forget our purpose.”
The mask-covered face of Lokhak was ferocious and stiff as he nodded silently, spurring his horse to hasten away from the alley entrance.
…
Inside the village hall.
“Are you really just the blacksmith’s daughter of this mountain village?”
Baron Dawson, clad in a luxurious black robe and silver armor, looked at the beautiful girl before him with an amused gaze.
Two of his noble knights, armed with halberds, stood one to each side, their blades firmly against the golden-haired girl’s shoulders and neck.
Their guarded stance didn’t seem to be controlling a mere fifteen- or sixteen-year-old girl, but rather confronting a fierce beast.
Olivia’s cool green eyes indifferently met those of the Kantadar nobles before her, remaining silent.
In her crossed hands, the long sword was still firmly planted in front of her.
Her father’s life hung in the balance, and she had no choice but to cease her resistance.
But the girl did not choose to lay down her weapon, nor did she accept any restraints.
Continuing to resist would lead to her father’s death, but she also knew that once she surrendered, her father’s life or death would be entirely at these Kantadar people’s mercy.
And these shameless thugs clearly wouldn’t honor any unequal agreements.
Fortunately, Olivia still had one last, albeit humiliating, bargaining chip.
“Answer my question, girl.
Your fate and your father’s are now in my hands,” Dawson said with a heavy accent, chuckling.
He didn’t believe that just any girl grown wild in the mountains could defeat his brave knights in direct combat.
“I want to see my father, for me to be alone with him.”
Olivia said calmly, not following the rhythm of the conversation set by the other party.
Dawson raised an eyebrow.
Stepping forward, he lifted an iron glove and gently pinched the girl’s delicate cheek, his eyes full of admiration but also displeasure.
“Is it that you don’t understand your situation, or is my Felu not standard enough?
…
Or perhaps, do you need me to strip you naked and throw you on the bed before you’ll answer the question properly?”
Clang!
In an instant, two swords crossed, and the violent clash of blades sparked suddenly.
Baron Dawson’s drawn treasure sword parried the blade that was slashed upwards towards his groin.
Stepping back quickly to create distance, he shook his sword handle, once again filled with admiration.
…Such a swift sword, even he had almost failed to catch it, no wonder Mamor could not beat her.
Seeing their lord almost emasculated, the knights on both sides became enraged, immediately crossing their halberds against the girl’s slender neck.
The guards by the door also drew their weapons, each one ready for battle.
“Ah~” Baron Dawson raised his hand to hold back his subordinates.
Olivia calmly withdrew her sword stance, completely indifferent to the swords pressing in from both knights.
“I’ll repeat it once more, I want to see my father, and you must ensure his survival.”
As she spoke, the girl coldly raised her long sword, also placing it against her own neck, “Otherwise, you will only get a headless corpse.”
Outmaneuvered, Baron Dawson narrowed his eyes but didn’t get angry.
He laughed, growing fonder of the girl.
Compared to those fragile women he had grown tired of,
taming this proud little lioness was far more exhilarating.
Baron Dawson sheathed his sword and instructed his subordinates in Uria, “Go, bring her father here.”
After that, he looked at the girl, “Consider this a temporary win, kid.
But I’ll only give you half a day to reunite.
When I return next time, I expect you to greet me naked, preferably not holding any weapons…”
The baron waved his hand mockingly, turned, and left with his attendants, “…Otherwise, I’ll flatten every protruding part on your father’s body…
right before your eyes.”
Indifferent to the departure of the Kantadar people and the firmly shut door, Olivia then lowered her sword from her neck.
After a long while, when the door was pushed open again, two Kantadar soldiers carried her father in.
The soldiers set down the old man and quickly left the room without daring to linger.
Olivia hastened forward, eagerly bending down to check.
Fortunately, though her father lay unconscious on the ground, his breathing was fairly even as if he was merely in a coma.
She could not pretend to be strong anymore.
The girl’s green eyes dimmed with helplessness and wander, filling her heart.
“…Father…
what should I do…”
The girl’s murmured voice was choked with emotion.
