Kitanna -
Chapter 70: A NEW DAWN
Chapter 70: A NEW DAWN
[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: ONE OF THESE NIGHTS ~ RED VELVET]
Kitanna watched from where she sat, the look on everyone’s faces, including the queen dowager, who didn’t know how to react. The news came as a shock to her too.
Kitanna, who knew when it happened but didn’t expect it to result in pregnancy, uncrossed her legs. She moved her hand up and folded her hair into a messy bun.
"Brother Khelan, do you know the name of the maid who now carries your child?" She asked, her eyes watching Khelan warily.
The question caused even Bareea to turn and look at the king. It was true that she had spent the night with him. But the next morning, before the king could wake up, she left the room. And he never asked for her until now that there was evidence of their forbidden affair.
Khelan shook his head, "That is why I say it was a mistake. It happened just once, and I didn’t know she would-"
Khelan did not complete his sentence because the next moment, Kitanna stood up from her chair clapping and laughing like a maniac.
"Look what we have here; I’m guessing the king did not attend the anatomy classes during his training days. You did it with a grown adult woman and you did not know it would yield a result?" Either you’re foolish, dumb or ignorant. Pick two. Kitanna completed in her mind without voicing it out, but her eyes was filled with mirth.
Khelan went to sit down, the bashing he just received from Kitanna he had expected it from Larel.
Kitanna continued with her words; she turned to look at Larel. She felt so bad for the young woman because if not for anything, she didn’t deserve to feel such heartbreak. Larel still had that humanity in her, which made her a beautiful soul. Kitanna made up her mind to say the words that Larel should be saying. It was an unasked job, but Kitanna knew the queen was too timid. She turned to look at Bareea.
"I’m not saying it’s your fault that you are pregnant. But as you can see, the king does not remember your name. I told you that your past doesn’t define you, and you have the right to choose the path best for you. I didn’t know you were very ambitious, the king." Kitanna sucked her teeth and turned to look at Almaria.
"Queen dowager, the maids and commoners you hate so much. You have your first grandchild coming from one. What great days have come in the Morgair family. The food you so much despise becomes your dessert. Bon appétit, Queen dowager." Kitanna bowed, holding her gown out. She did little to hide the sarcasm in her tone.
Almaria fisted her knuckles until it turned white. She wanted to talk, but the taunting words from Kitanna made it difficult for her to think of something.
Lady Deonisia watched Kitanna; the girl seemed to be angrier than the most affected, which was Queen Larel. She moved closer to Almaria and whispered in her ear. Almaria nodded.
Kitanna, who was still standing, turned her eyes searching for Nix. When she noticed his blue eyes shine even from the darkness, she grinned and sat back down. She only caused the ruckus to make Larel feel better, and Bareea also needed to be punished for sleeping with a married man under the same roof where his wife rests. It was an act of disrespect. And then again, what better time was there to taunt the queen dowager if not now.
Almaria called back everyone’s attention when she stood up to address them, "The king never makes mistakes," she said.
"Because that which is done wrongly by the king, instead of a mistake, is turned into a law." Kitanna retorted.
"Enough of this madness, Princess Kitanna!" Almaria said, her words laced with anger and irritation.
"Alas! My title is acknowledged." Kitanna voiced out, her words coming out as a mockery.
The queen dowager glared at her, her eyes shooting invisible daggers at Kitanna. She turned around and inhaled before moving forward.
"We, the royal family, will accept the child. Bareea’s position will be moved from being a maid to a concubine. And the child will be a direct child of the Morgair." Almaria spoke her words clear and precise.
"I’m sure Khelan had his reasons; other kingdoms are waiting to see a window of opportunity to grab our throne. With a child now, an heir to the throne, we have nothing to be afraid of. If Larel had given the king a child or did her job properly, I’m sure this won’t be the case." Almaria pushed the blame to the poor queen.
Those sharp words cut deep into Larel’s heart, opening further the already opened wounds.
Kitanna turned to glare at the queen dowager; she was shocked by the statement she made against a young woman.
"A new dawn has risen in the palace; babies, they say, bring happiness. We will welcome the child with joy, and everyone shall accept it. Everyone." Almaria trailed her eyes from Khelan to Larel and then finally on Kitanna, who gazed at her with the same fierceness.
The meeting ended with Bareea leveled up as the first concubine to the king; her eyes were drowned with guilt as she stepped out of the bigger room.
Khelan walked to stand in front of Larel when his mother left the room, "Larel, I am sorry. It was just once; it happened." He said calmly.
"Khelan, let’s all get some sleep. Today has been too dramatic for everyone." Larel stood up and left the room.
Khelan followed her immediately, leaving behind Nix and Kitanna.
"Did you enjoy the show?" Kitanna asked when it was finally just them in the room.
Nix stepped out of where he was standing, "I didn’t know the show was put up for me to watch." His head moved to a side, his eyes still on the princess.
Kitanna walked to stand in front of him, her eyes lurked with something crazy. It seemed like something had snapped inside of her. This was the eyes of the princess Nix met as an assassin.
"Do you remember anything?" Nix asked to understand better why she was now acting this way.
Kitanna grinned, "Not that I do, but I’m ready to remember now. Anything that can be done just for me to have my memory back, do it." She whispered, even though it was just them in the room.
"It will be a new dawn of breaking bads. Everyone involved in ruining my life, taking away my actual memory. I will make sure they pay the price of their sins." The madness in her eyes flared brighter than the candles.
Nix twitched his lips, "How do you expect to make them pay the price when you find them?" His tone sounding deeper than the ocean but lighter than its breeze, which now moved their hair gently.
The room turned silent, each moment that passed by heavier than the last. Kitanna took out of her dress a sword she had been holding but was covered with her long dress. It was the sword she used as an assassin. The Black Rose Tizona. It was also called the precious finger of the heavenly king, a sword used by the assasins to punish offenders of Morado. The pommel of this sword is gold polished and pearl inlays on it’s end. The sword is very flexible more like a cane but the blade is stainless steel.
"That which has no life has no sin. I will go back to who I was trained to be." Her fierce voice sounded like classical music to the ears of Nix.
He smiled when he watched her try to act strong again; he moved his hand and rested it on her black hair. "Within a beautiful body, rests a beautiful soul. Don’t ruin who you are trying to get back at people; work on retrieving your memory. Leave the dirty job to me. A princess must never soil her dress and her pretty hands." Nix smiled.
He moved forward to rest his hands on her face. Kitanna welcomed the movement by closing her eyes. When Nix noticed this, he let out a small smile and brushed his face on hers before stepping out of the room.
"Is it just me, or did he just consider me as beautiful?" Kitanna, who was already used to the flirting nature of Nix, did not pay mind to it; rather, she was focused on the adjectives he used for her.
