Kitanna’s loud cry shook the walls of the palace, with maids trying their best to attend to her. All the palace physicians were stationed at the chamber where the queen was resting.

Nix paced back and forth, he had been so lost with finding the man who killed his father, that he didn’t pay attention to know that Kitanna was due. He raked his finger roughly through his hair, going to meet any maid that stepped out of the room but the reply he got was not enough.

The high priestess Mubera arrived at the place, setting her things in front of the room as she offered prayers for the queen’s safety. The whole palace joined in the prayers waiting for the child’s first cry.

Kitanna felt her lower abdomen contract, and she screamed with a loud voice, "Nix!!" She called out.

Nix heard his name and quickly entered the room going to stand beside her. He touched her hair, gently trying to dry the sweat that had greased her forehead. "I’m here, Kit. I’m right here." He muttered.

Kitanna’s breathing was now heavy and becoming dull, when she felt another contraction she shouted holding Nix tightly afraid of letting go.

The physicians stopped what they were doing with fear marring their forehead they looked at each other.

Nix noticed this, and his brow furrowed. "What is going on? Why did you stop?" He asked impatiently.

The head physician, an elderly woman, spoke up. "Your Majesty, it appears that the queen has..." Her voice trailed off.

"Has what?" Nix asked furiously, his blue eyes raging with anger.

The older woman cleared her throat. "The child inside the queen is not one but two." She informed.

Kitanna raised her head slightly, looking up at Nix she asked, "What are they saying?"

Nix gave her a reassuring smile, drying the unshed tears that latched on her lashes. "You have nothing to worry about Kit, I’ll be here through it all." He touched her face gently.

Nix turned to look at the physicians. "What are you waiting for?" He barked at them angrily.

The physician said in a low trembling tone, "Your Majesty, the queen is getting weaker, if we continue to add more pressure she wouldn’t..." The woman, afraid of completing her words, stopped talking.

Nix narrowed his eyes. "Get Misam here quickly!"

One of the maids rushed outside to call Misam and the next moment they were back.

"What is going on, the herbs are not working. She’s getting weaker." Nix said, as adrenaline coursed through his veins.

Misam turned to the physician after talking, she bowed to the king, "Your Majesty, the herb I gave her was for one child, but it appears that the queen is having two. There is nothing I can do right now, everything depends on the Queen and if the heavenly king wills." The woman bowed deeply.

Nix held Kitanna’s hand gently, turning to her he said, "Kit, you’re doing just great, they said we don’t have one but two of our children inside of you. Isn’t that great?" He said with a small smile.

Kitanna nodded, her face scrunched up in pain. "That’s great...Nix, but I’m tired...when will they come.." she asked, her breathing now heavy.

"You will bring them out and you will get to see them." Nix paused, moved her hair away from her face, "You don’t need to be tired, I’ll be your strength through it all, I’m never letting go." He reassured.

The next moment Kitanna gave out another loud cry which took almost half of her strength causing her to pass out. Nix didn’t let go of her for a moment.

The physicians ran around getting new water and towels to wipe off the blood and trying to get the Queen back to consciousness until she finally woke up.

Kitanna opened to see Nix still standing beside him, his face marred with worry, and his hair looking disheveled. She tried to raise her hand and touch him but she was too weak. The young queen inhaled deeply, giving out her last cry with the remaining strength in her. She pushed out with force.

There was silence in the room, even a pin sound would be heard if it dropped. Then a loud cry of a child was heard in the room.

"A boy!!" The physician shouted, then another cry was heard. "A girl!"

Everyone inside the room jumped up in happiness, except Nix who was holding Kitanna.

"Kit, open your eyes our children came out safely." But she didn’t respond.

Nix didn’t want to assume the worst so he brought his face down, tears filling his eyes. He nudged his wife again but there was no movement.

The maids noticed this, and they all went silent, the two babies were wrapped quickly as everyone waited for the queen to wake up.

Fear gripped everyone in the room, news reached to those outside.

Nix got down on his knees, tears filling his eyes which now looked like the ocean. He gently touched the pale face of Kitanna who now held a peaceful look,

"Please open your eyes and look at our children, you did it. You’re the strongest woman I’ve ever seen, and my happiness wouldn’t be complete without you. Remember our vows, we promised to stay with each other forever." Nix said with a low voice, his hand holding that of Kitanna.

Soon the palace servants started crying as everyone had already assumed the worst. Larel who was waiting outside entered the room, only to see others cry and she joined them. What was supposed to be celebrated turned into sadness.

Nix finally dried his tears, he got up from his position going to carry the babies when he felt a small tug.

"Where are you going to?" Kitanna’s low weak voice was heard in the room. "You promised never to let go." She said.

Nix turned, nodding his head with a smile, "I would never let go, I wanted to show you our children. We did it,"

"Together, we did it together." Kitanna muttered, trying to catch her breath.

The physicians quickly rushed to attend to the queen, feeding her to herbs and tonics that would replenish her blood and give her strength. Through it all, Nix didn’t let go of Kitanna’s hand.

By evening time, Kitanna was now better, the two babies were laid beside her.

"They look just like us," Nix said touching them.

Kitanna nodded, "It’s as if they shared our traits, the girl has brown eyes and silver hair while the boy has black hair and blue eyes." She smiled.

Nix moved his gaze to look at Kitanna, "Thank you," he muttered, "Thank you for completing my happiness."

Kitanna held his hand, "Thank you for never letting go." She replied.

"We will make a very beautiful family." Nix added.
