Chapter 156: BRIDE OF THE WHITE LORD
Chapter 156: BRIDE OF THE WHITE LORD
[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: FOREVER ~ SUHO]
A week passed in the kingdom of Morado after the bloody night that claimed so many lives. The palace guards who had lost their lives in the process were given a dignified burial, while Bareea was laid to rest at the outskirts of the palace, close to Almaria. The palace, having taken a hard hit, needed extensive reconstruction, and Adric’s planned renovation was put on hold hold as the palace in it’s entirety needed to be reconstructed.
The throne room, where Almaria took her own life, was closed off permanently, never to be entered again. A new throne room was now under construction at the west wing of the palace, using advanced irons for the build. The kingdom took this time to mourn and recuperate from the losses suffered during the battle.
Nix’s isolated quarters, which was the last straw of hope, became a haven for many after the fight that night. However, he had to move into the main palace after persuasion from his grandfather and the princess. Larel and Cortez decided to cancel their plans of leaving, choosing to stay in the palace, at least until the princess’s coronation.
Catja, the maid who plotted treason against the royal family, was used as an example and banished from the kingdom.
Meanwhile, there was a young guard who had risked his life for the elder white Lord.
. . .
"Axilla, shake the milk first before giving it to him," Larel called out while arranging her son’s clothes. Her son. Before Bareea’s demise, she had accepted for Larel to be Labre’s mother. Despite feeling sad for the concubine’s death, she was happy that the child would now grow under her care, the thought of it warmed her heart.
Axilla stood up, "But he won’t let me; he keeps stretching his hands, reaching for it." The young girl complained.
Clephas, sitting close to the baby, nodded in agreement. "Little Labre is feisty when it comes to his morning milk, like Lord Hieron’s new son." He smiled.
"Lord Hieron’s new son?" Severus asked, tilting his head.
Axilla chimed in, "Yes, his new son! That one is becoming something else ever since Lord Hieron called him his own blood." She shook her head in wonder.
Larel laughed, "But how is he, Lord Hieron’s blood?"
Clephas touched the baby’s cheeks, "Well... we can’t question the elder white Lord, can we?" The eunuch touched the baby’s nose playfully, and the boy giggled, raising his leg up.
"Is someone badmouthing me?" Chantal appeared at the door with a mischievous grin.
Clephas clapped his hands excitedly, "You will live long; we were just talking about you being Lord Hieron’s son." The older man smiled.
Axilla sneered when she saw the annoying guard, she had thought he would change after that night but when he woke up three days later he didn’t stop tormenting her.
"You are still shocked how I am now called Lord Hieron’s son? You don’t know how these things work, let me enlighten you. When you fight alongside with someone and the blood-" Chantal started his usual story.
Axilla dropped the baby bottle and sighed, her ears were now bleeding listening to the story over and over again of how Chantal risked his life to save Lord Hieron. At first she was intrigued and grateful but overtime it became unbearable to listen to. She made her way to leave the room.
"Look at her, she won’t listen and learn a lesson from it. So she won’t poke nose and get abducted next time." Chantal’s words were laced with sarcasm and tease. Axilla stopped in her steps and glared at him but she didn’t say anything, because that was what he was aiming for a morning bicker between the two of them.
Severus left what he was doing and paid his full attention to the young guard, "And then the blood...tell me more" his eyes sparkled with curiosity as Chantal continued with his story of how he was a very big hero.
On the other side of the palace, where construction was nearly complete, Hieron stood with his hands behind him.
"I wish the new throne room would be opened with the queen and king ready," he murmured, observing the two lovebirds a little distance away.
"I bet it would," a woman’s voice spoke beside him, and Hieron smiled, recognizing the person he recently became friends with.
"You know, Lady Hash, sometimes I wonder, for someone who is blind, how do you know everything about your environment so much?" Hieron asked.
Lady Hash grinned, revealing her beautiful set of white teeth, "When one sense is down, the others become very active. It’s a normal balance in life." The woman replied, holding her walking staff firmly. Since she arrived Morado, she had enjoyed her stay so much that she decided to stay a little longer, especially now she felt that there would be a celebration soon.
On the other side of the palace, Kitanna held Nix’s hands tightly, and it was no longer a secret that they loved each other. They watched the builders completing the construction.
"The architecture did a lovely plan, and the builders followed it perfectly." Kitanna marveled at the new beauty.
Nix nodded in agreement, his blue eyes fixed on the tiny princess beside him, whom he couldn’t get enough of. After what happened to Almaria, Kitanna had cried herself to sleep for two long nights straight, it could be out of guilt or hurt Nix didn’t know but he was there to comfort her.
"If you love me so much, why don’t you tell me already?" Kitanna’s brown eyes locked with his intense blue ones.
Nix tilted his head, "Tell you what?" One of his perfectly arched brows raised.
Kitanna turned to face him properly, "That I’m your bride." She smiled.
Nix was stunned, looking to his grandfather for confirmation. His old man would be the only person who might have given her this information. But Kitanna touched his chest and smiled.
"It wasn’t your grandfather; it was my father. That night we found the box in his tomb, there was a paper you didn’t see. It says ’Kitanna, you are the bride of the white Lord. He will be your king.’"
"So I figured the white Lord obviously won’t be your grandfather but you. I found out from your grandfather that you also knew about it, but I was waiting for you to tell me." The princess narrated, she was very excited when she found out that it was still the man she loved that she was going to get married to. She had swept the information under the rug, she didn’t want to impose it on Nix, since he never brought the discussion up. But now, she was done testing the waters; she wanted to take the plunge.
Nix raked his fingers through his silver locks, "Maybe this is finally the right time, White Lord’s bride." He leaned forward, planting a kiss on Kitanna’s lips.
Kitanna accepted the kiss with her eyes closed, and when she opened them, there were colorful emotions dancing in her eyes. After a while, mirth replaced them.
"What again?" Nix asked, noticing the mischievous look in her eyes.
Kitanna took a step back, "I think we have plenty of things to settle. I remember you. When you arrived first in the palace, you took away my favorite cup, and it was you who reported to the queen dowager that I stole cookies from the kitchen." The princess grinned.
Nix twitched his lips, "Oh, that... I was worried you would have a sweet tooth. And for the cup? I was getting annoyed with the way you held it so close to your chest every morning like a spoilt princess. I think I paid for all of that when you whipped me at the punishment ground. That reminds me; you whipped me, princess." Nix stepped forward while Kitanna moved back.
"You didn’t forget?" She gave a cute smile, trying to run away, but Nix’s hand snaked around her waist, pulling her closer to his chest.
"Why would I ever forget the first time I noticed your alluring brown eyes?" He smiled, biting her earlobe playfully while Kitanna giggled.
Hieron smiled from where he stood far away and said to Lady Hash, "I think we should prepare for a wedding."
