Chapter 144: AWAY FROM HOME
[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: EMPTY MIND~ KIM MIN JI FEAT PAK SEJUN]
"Without informing me?" Hieron asked, feeling annoyed that his position was bypassed.
"The prime minister gave me the order. I noticed that the other side of the palace needed to be worked on, so I took it upon myself to get it done. Maybe that way, I’ll get the princess to look my way. Is something wrong with that?" Adric asked, looking at Nix with the same intensity as the blue eyes glared at him.
"Then get your construction men here because they are suspects in the abduction that happened in the palace. They are nowhere to be found," Nix responded.
Adric furrowed his brows, looking perplexed. "My construction men? They only arrived this morning, but they have not started work. I only loaded off what they would be using at the site," the crown prince said.
Nix turned to look at Chantal, "Which men did you say you saw leaving the palace?" He asked sternly.
Chantal gulped nervously, "C- construction men?" His words sounded more like a question as he was now confused.
Nix rubbed his temples gently; he was mad at himself for not paying attention. At the same time, he was angry with everyone in the palace.
Far away from the courtroom, where there was a debate on who was abducted and who abducted. Inside a cart, filled with grains and salt, a body tried to wriggle out of the sack they were wrapped in.
Axilla felt her head pounding from the effect of the hard hit; she couldn’t see anything as the whole place was filled with darkness, and her hands were tightly taped behind her. She tried to make a sound, but her mouth was closed shut with a piece of cloth. Finally, when the cart stopped moving, Axilla was yanked out, heaped on someone’s shoulder. She wanted to cry out and let the person know she was a human and not some baggage filled with clothes. The rough way she was being handled it was no brainer she would feel muscle pain later.
"How come there are two persons?" Axilla heard a voice asking. That was when she knew she wasn’t alone, but who was the other person. She couldn’t guess. But all she knew was that the person speaking was the leader.
"It was a small mistake; the girl was going to blow our cover, so we had to bring her with us. Tell us what to do to her." The man carrying Axilla was the one to speak.
"Let’s go inside first," Axilla noticed the men started walking, as the man’s shoulder who was carrying her was now moving.
She tried to look through the sack, to catch a glimpse of anything or anyone. But the sack didn’t allow light in.
"Drop her here, what about the main package?" Axilla heard the leader’s voice speak again.
Axilla felt her body descending until her back touched the hard ground. Then the sack was being pulled out of her body, giving her the pleasure to enjoy good air. The pain at the back of her head still made her feel dizzy, but she didn’t care about that; all she wanted was to run away from this place.
"The main package is sleeping; I think the sleeping herb was added too much to her drink." The man who was releasing Axilla answered, still going ahead with his work.
After he was done freeing the tiny girl from the sack, he untied her hands and pulled the piece of cloth that wrapped her mouth.
Axilla closed her eyes, as the man was busy releasing her from the bonds. She didn’t want to look at their faces, so they won’t have reasons not to let her go.
"Open your eyes, young girl," a voice said to Axilla.
But she shook her head negatively; she didn’t want to give them a reason to keep her here permanently.
"Why?" The man asked, narrowing his eyes at the stubborn young girl.
"I didn’t see your faces; please let me go. I won’t tell anyone anything. Don’t kill me," Axilla begged, still closing her eyes tightly.
"Oh, I see; then you shouldn’t have made my men notice you. We wouldn’t be here if you acted right," the man replied, going to sit very close to the young girl.
Axilla moved back when she noticed the shadow come to stand in front of her. Her heart was now pounding so fast, that she felt a lump rise in her throat. Was this going to be her end? The young girl thought.
"Were you privileged to serve close to the princess back at the palace?" The man moved his hand to touch Axilla’s face, and this action made the girl cringe.
Axilla didn’t know what to answer; what if she says she did and they use her to get the princess. She kept her mouth and eyes shut as she continued to move away from the shadow that carcassed her hair.
"If you say you do, I’ll keep you alive. The princess needs an assistant and there’s no problem if a maid who has served her before helps us with that."
At the mention of the princess, Axilla flashed her eyes open. Her hazel eyes stared at the man sitting in front of her. It was not what she expected when she was abducted; she expected it to be some rough thugs or bandits. But the man in front of her looked very decent; he even wore a small crown on his head.
"I guess you’re very close to the princess, for you to open your eyes at the mention of her." The man smiled, standing up from his position.
Axilla blinked, looking at the large room she was locked in. It was the same as the rooms back in the palace, but the difference was the designs on the wall.
"Where am I? Where is the princess?" Axilla asked, wiping her clammy hands on her skirt.
The young man smiled gracefully, "Welcome to my kingdom. The princess is taking a little nap; she would be awake before midnight so our wedding can proceed."
"Wedding?!" Axilla shouted; was this man some kind of madman? Why would he abduct the princess and force her to get married to him.
"You see, I’ve been calm and quiet waiting for the princess to choose me as her groom, but she keeps taking my meekness for weakness. I can’t allow it to continue. I know what I want and I would take it by force, maybe fate brought you here to take care of the princess." The man grinned, waving his hand for a maid at the side to step in.
"Take her to where they kept the princess. She would be in charge of dressing her and make sure they get everything they want. The princess is the future queen of this kingdom." The man remarked, walking out of the room.
Axilla followed the maid behind as they walked along the corridors; she then noticed that indeed they were in a palace. But she had no idea which kingdom it was. When the door opened, Axilla stepped inside the room alone; she rushed to the bed where the princess laid peacefully.
"Princess Ki-" her words hung in her throat. This was not Princess Kitanna; it was Lady Larel that they brought here. Axilla gulped.
