Chapter 142: VISIBLE VICTIMS
[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: COLLIDE~ JUSTINE SKYE FEAT TYGA]
Lord Hieron flipped over the letters he had been receiving over the past few days. Different kingdoms still offered their alliance if allowed to marry the princess. It was high time her position was moved higher so the throne could be occupied, but his grandson had still not made any move. He raised his face to look at the two men in his room, the two eunuchs who were assigned to work with him.
"What do you think is holding Nix back from telling the princess that they are betrothed because I’m tired of the wait" Heiron remarked, dropping the quill he was holding.
Severus continued to grind the ink, his face dedicated to what he was doing. "Maybe he is scared of being rejected?" His words sounded more like a question than a statement.
"Rubbish!" Hieron interjected, "I know what I see, and if my sharp eyes have not been affected by old age, I know that is the princess who is more attracted to him. Have you seen her staring at him?" The man barked, not liking the idea of his grandson being rejected by anyone at all.
Severus shrugged his shoulders and continued with his work. All he gave was his own two cents, and nothing more.
Clephas pinched the bridge of his nose. "What if you hasten the process yourself? From what I’ve heard, the princess’s memory is more about her father, but I’ve been thinking if Nix had been in the palace for so long. There’s every possibility that they’ve met maybe once or twice in the palace." He replied, unsure if the elder white Lord would buy his idea because the man was unpredictable with his emotions and thoughts.
Hieron nodded, taking his time to think it through, "We should before they take us by surprise and announce the arrival of a baby. The boy slept here again," the older man’s eyes trailed to look at the young guard, whose body was wrapped with a thick bed cover as he snuggled into it in his sleep.
"Chantal?" Severus asked, surprised to see the boy there. He didn’t notice it was a human who was heaped on the floor all along.
Clephas nodded; he knew about Chantal sleeping in the white Lord’s room, as sometimes the boy does sneak out of the isolated quarters. Hearing the white Lord speak now, he guessed it might be to give the princess some privacy with Lord Nix.
Chantal groaned, finally sitting up. He continued to rub his sleepy eyes. "Am I alive?" He asked the older men.
Hieron shook his head, "This one should not be guarding the palace at all." The man picked the required documents and left the room, as Severus followed him behind.
"Chantal, it’s morning already. Get up and resume your duty post." Clephas advised the boy, before leaving the room to assist the elder white Lord.
Chantal touched his stomach that had been aching him since the other day after he had a taste of the you-know-what food. "I’m glad I survi-" the next minute his stomach rumbled, announcing the presence of mother nature’s call. He got up quickly to use the servant’s chamber pot outside, but every step felt like torture, so he held his legs tightly, walking in a very funny manner.
"Excuse me!" Chantal spoke through his teeth as he almost cursed the person standing in front of him.
"Greetings Chantal, you look...." Axilla couldn’t complete her sentence, but she noticed something was wrong with the arrogant guard, and it pleased her soul.
"Leave my sight ...I....mmm...I have somewhere I need to be," Chantal grunted, forcing words to leave his mouth. He didn’t know why his luck was always bad when he met this hazel-eyed monster.
"You want to?? I can’t hear you very well. What did you say?" Axilla walked closer to hear him speak again.
Chantal clenched his teeth, sucking his breath in, while stiffening his bottom. "Please Axilla, I’m sorry for the other day...Let me pass," the young guard pleaded, balls of sweat now soaking his shirt.
Axilla laughed as she walked away from the corridor she felt so pleased to see the arrogant guard beg for something earnestly. She was going to torture him more, but it was already enough seeing how frustrated he looked.
She made her way towards Lady Larel’s room, as the princess had gone to visit the high priestess for prayers. Axilla decided to keep herself busy around the lady, but she noticed someone rush out of the palace carrying something. She was going to ignore it until she saw a person’s leg appear. It was a person they were carrying, not something.
"Hey, stop there..hey..." Axilla called, and as she shouted, the person increased their steps almost running.
She considered running back to call for help, but before she could turn back and go inside the palace, something hard struck the back of her head, making her lose consciousness.
"What should we do with this one?" A male voice asked, feeling angered at the maid who interfered with their flawless plan.
"We would let the boss decide, all these maids that poke nose humph!," the other male voice harrumphed, dragging the person he was running with before Axilla saw him.
Axilla was also wrapped carefully and lifted on the man’s shoulder as the two men walked out of the palace.
Chantal, who was now back from answering nature’s call, was on his way to the main palace when he bumped into a group of men dressed like they were constructing something.
"Excuse me," the man with tools on his shoulder bowed slightly moving away from the guard.
Chantal nodded his head but stopped to look at the men for some time. He shook his head, "That looks heavy," he muttered, walking into the palace to find everyone running around.
"Sound the bells, lock the gates!" Chantal heard Lord Nix’s hard voice from far away, and standing beside him was Chief Cortez and Lord Hieron.
Chantal held one of the maids, whose eyes were widened in shock. "What is going on?" He asked.
"Someone was kidnapped..." The maid trailed.
Chantal wished in his heart of hearts that it was that stubborn maid who made him apologize this morning. It would give him pleasure that she was missing so he could live in peace in the palace.
"We can’t find Axilla," another maid rushed to the corridor.
Chantal swallowed his thoughts; he didn’t mean it literally. He cursed under his breath; maybe it was his bad wishes that came to pass, and he felt guilty. He didn’t want anything to happen to the maid.
And in the next few minutes a maid from the shrine rushed in, her veil flying as she ran to where the White Lord stood.
"Lord Nix, High priestess Mubera is..."
"The palace has been cursed!" A maid screamed; everything was just happening so fast. The victims were visible, but the suspects remained invisible.
