Chapter 133: SUPPORTIVE PARTNER
[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: THE WAY I ARE ~ BEBE REXHA FEAT LIL WAYNE]
High priestess Mubera raised her brows in surprise, even Bareea turned to look at the young woman.
Panha used her hand to cover her mouth before saying, "Don’t get me wrong. Actually, my sister died so long ago, but I’ve been living with regrets and anguish, thereby holding her soul back. I can feel she’s still around me; I want to finally let her go." A tear slipped down Panha’s face.
"Oh child, please come sit." Mubera touched the young woman’s shoulder gently, trying to console her.
As they moved to sit down, Panha, walking behind the two women, sneered at them. When they turned, her eyes welled up in tears; this time, she hid her face with her elbow.
"You must have carried this regret for such a long time; it is understandable, especially if your sister died unjustly," Mubera said, unaware of who the lady was and the evil she was brewing.
Panha nodded her head, sniffling her fake tears back inside, "You really live up to your reputation as the high priestess. Yes, my sister was indeed killed unjustly....and....and... What hurts me most is that the culprit roams around freely."
Bareea shook her head in pity; she thought she had problems until she heard the story of the woman beside her.
Mubera reached out and held Panha’s hand into her own, rubbing it gently to give the young woman comfort.
"I’ll say you let go of this regret; I’m very sure your sister would wish the same. And if she lived a good life while on earth, it shouldn’t be a problem for her soul to transcend to where the heavenly king is. Dry your tears; also, how sure are you that the culprit is actually the one." Unsuspecting Mubera asked.
Panha almost scrunched her face in distaste with what the priestess had just said. Initially, she was just going to kill the woman based on request, but now she had decided to judge the life her sister lived and also questioning the authenticity of her words. This pissed Panha off, but she didn’t drop her composure.
"My sister was a very peace-loving girl; she would never even hurt a fly. One time she left the door open for mosquitoes because she felt avoiding them would only starve them of their natural food. We called her the innocent sea." Panha sighed sadly, looking into nothingness as if thinking about her sister.
Innocent sea? Calissa was called the fiery vixen; she never let her prey go. Trained as a seductive assassin, she had never failed in her duty before, not until Morado. When she was sent to kill the crown prince but was only caught by the princess. Thinking about it now, who must have sent Calissa to kill Almaria’s son? The thought now worried Panha; maybe the woman had enemies from other kingdoms, she thought.
Despite her sister being a killing tool, who didn’t spare anyone, it didn’t give Kitanna the right to judge her; after all, it wasn’t Calissa’s fault; it was just the nature of her work.
Panha’s attention, which was diverted for a second because she was lost in thought, came back when she heard the high priestess say something.
"...we did. But not to worry, if you don’t mind, come around to the shrine every day, just like Bareea does; maybe praying together would help you let go of your grudges." The older woman said, patting the girl gently.
She now wanted to live a good life and make amends for all that she had done. Mubera now believed that anyone could find redemption, including the one who had killed Panha’s sister, but she wasn’t going to tell her that just yet.
Panha nodded with a smile; she turned to look at Bareea, then back at the priestess. "I believe it is fate that brought me to this place. To meet with you."
Inside the isolated quarters, Hieron read the letter on the parchment, which his son had given to him the moment they walked in.
"Most of the kingdoms now think Morado is weak because the throne is empty and the princess is unmarried. We need to prepare for an attack," Nix said, looking at his grandfather then at the princess who hadn’t said anything since they stepped inside the room.
Hieron rubbed his temples; he reclined on his chair, his eyes now looking tired. "Rumor of Almaria’s escape must have reached their ears. They will think our impregnable fortress is now a legend, but boy, do you think war is the only solution?" The old man who had seen war and knew the effect it left did not want his grandson to experience it. Especially after the young man had lost his father in the cold hands of war. It was because of the bloodshed and regrets that kingdoms chose treaty and dialogue instead of killing themselves.
Nix shook his head, "On Almaria’s case, the maid we’ve been questioning finally said something. She said the face of their rescuer was hidden, but by their dressing, they didn’t look like people from Morado. That was all; Khelan on the other hand was truly not aware of his mother’s plans."
"Hm..so someone helped Almaria escape, what could be the reason then?" Hieron tapped his hand on the table.
Kitanna pressed her lips; she was worried a lot of things happening after she removed Almaria from the throne; it bothered her that she couldn’t do anything. She thought handling the throne would be easy, but it wasn’t, as she made Nix do all the work by himself. And it worried her.
Nix noticed the look on Kitanna’s face; he went to where she was standing and rubbed her forehead gently. The worried crease on Kitanna’s face dissipated.
"Don’t think too much, princess; I won’t let anything happen to you," Nix reassured her with a soft smile. And it did the trick because Kitanna smiled back at him.
Hieron, taking note of how the two of them have not been spending quality time with each other, took the cue and decided to give them some privacy.
"I will summon the ministers so we know what to do. Let me get the letters ready." Saying this, the elder white Lord left the two lovebirds alone.
Now all alone in the room, in the company of each other, Kitanna dropped her shoulder, "I’m sorry, Nix; I feel like I just turned your whole life. Things I’m supposed to do, I leave them all to you, and I only get into trouble. I feel so bad," the princess lamented not raising her face.
Nix stepped back a little, his hands now inside his pocket. He said, "Kitanna, look at me.." his deep voice stirred something inside Kitanna, a reminder of how he had touched her before and her stomach churned.
"No reasonable man would let his woman do the tedious work. I am not complaining with what I’m doing, and you are quite helpful and wise. It was you who found out that Almaria was escaping, and you caught the maid. I just want to make sure everything is in order before you ascend the throne. I don’t want you to be hurt. Ok?" Nix asked, reaching out to touch her chin after Kitanna had raised her face.
Kitanna bit her lips and nodded. "But is there anything I can do to help? Like today, you didn’t eat breakfast with us, looking at it you’ll still skip breakfast. You barely get sleep. Chantal told me you come back to the palace after training soldiers at the base camp, rest for a few minutes then you continue with palace cases. I’m worried about you." The princess said, sincerely.
Nix smiled, the thought of having someone think about him warmed his heart. "I didn’t know that Chantal now reports my every move; that blabber mouth..."
Kitanna raised her hands, "No, not like that; he just...."
She stopped talking when Nix pressed his cold lips on her, making her back arch in need. Then he stepped back.
"Let me be the only man you defend and worry about. Hm?" Nix asked, still holding her small face in his hands. Kitanna nodded in response; he moved closer to intensify the kiss when his stomach grumbled.
Kitanna looked down at his stomach then at his face, "This won’t do; I’ll go make breakfast ready for you." She said.
"Yourself?" Nix smiled, enjoying the idea.
"Yes, that’s the least I can do to support my man." Kitanna smiled.
Nix walked to rest on his couch, "Then I’ll be waiting right here," the next moment Kitanna rushed out of the door to prepare breakfast. The thought of her making food for him warmed his heart.
