Chapter 130: THE CYCLE OF REVENGE

Chapter 130: THE CYCLE OF REVENGE

[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: TRAITOR ~ OLIVIA RODRIGO]

Deonisia turned to look at Almaria, she nodded her head, confirming the thoughts her sister was having in her head. She then turned to look at the supreme king.

"Not my friend but my sister..." Deonisia said softly.

The supreme King dropped his shoulder as if disappointed, "And here I thought you brought me a gift. Even though she’s old, but she will do," the man rubbed his tongue over his teeth, making Almaria recoil in disgust.

Almaria tightened her grip on her dress; the man in front of her unnerved her to the last. She kept her eyes away from him but could still feel his penetrating gaze on her. Almaria prayed that Deonisia wouldn’t ask her to please the man, and even before that, she wanted to know the story of her cousin’s love.

Deonisia pinched the bridge of her nose, she cleared her throat to speak, and she said, "The blood of Zeno is alive," and this did the trick to call the man’s attention. His eyes quickly snapped to look at Deonisia.

"Are you here to play a trick on me?" The supreme King narrowed his eyes, his fist now clenched with hate and anger.

"I would never dare to joke around with such, as you know how much I love my life." Deonisia replied, trying to look unfazed, but the man’s anger bothered her.

The supreme king hit his hand on the table, causing a loud thud; this startled the two women in the room. He looked up to face Deonisia, with his eyes narrowed.

"Why are you telling me this?." He asked, his voice now deep. "Best believe that I wouldn’t be like my father to recklessly go to war with Morado. Let me know where the blood of Zeno is; I’ll get my revenge, and that’s all. It’s the best you can do for the kingdom that helped you." He completed, this time relaxing to his normal position.

Almaria didn’t understand what was happening; she had a lot of questions to ask, but she knew it was not the time. The conversation was a very serious one.

"We all want the same thing. If you can let me explain, this is the last blood of Zeno; he is helping the last survivor of Morgair, secure the throne." Deonisia replied, trying to play her cards well.

The supreme King raked his hand on his cornrows; his eyes closed for some time like he was thinking. When he opened it, they now appeared tired, showing his real age.

"Let’s have this discussion later. My guards would show you where you’ll be resting." The man stood up, and like the guard had been listening to the discussion, one of them stepped inside and bowed to the king.

"Treat our guests nice; we would know if they’re foes or friends soon, yeah?" Saying this, the supreme King walked back to the room he stepped out from earlier.

The guard led the two women to another room, far away from the one they had just stepped out from. Almaria noticed that the servants were mainly men, and there was no maid. They followed the guard silently until they got to a room, which they stepped into. Then the guard locked the door from outside; the sound caused Almaria’s heart to skip.

"B-big sister, why do I feel like we are being locked up?" Her voice trembled in fear; she had done a lot of dangerous things in her life, but not going to where she would be killed. Almaria loved her life so much.

Deonisia walked away and sat down with her two hands interwined. "Because we are; the supreme king would only trust us after he checks the credibility of our story. This kingdom is very thorough like I told you before."

Almaria raised her hands in frustration, "And you brought us here? Do you want to get us killed? We should have just stuck to Panha infiltrating the palace as undercover and poisoning Kitanna. Why bring us here, where we are not sure of coming out alive!" The woman shuddered in fear when she remembered the spooky entrance. If the people in this kingdom could bring down a large animal and use the horn as an aesthetic, likes of she and her cousin were like flies.

Deonisia glared at her sister, "You need to risk your life to get some things done. That’s why there’s a saying for it, no guts, no glory. Keep calm; we’ll be fine, especially with the cycle of revenge running in everyone’s blood."

"I don’t want to risk my life; I just want to be queen." Almaria finally sat down, removing the shawl that she used to wrap her face.

"And then, we are supposed to be a team. Why did you not tell me everything? And who you used to be in love with, when you brought me to Morado, you said you would make me rule. It was because of your gain, right?" Almaria directed her words to her sister.

Deonisia exhaled softly, her eyes looking in a distant as if she had remembered something. "It was never for my gain. It was to prove a point, a point that hell has no fury like a woman scorned."

Almaria adjusted on her chair, "And you’re the woman."

Deonisia looked at her cousin sternly, before looking away. Her mind replaying the events of the past, which was now blur because of her age, but she would never forget how she was betrayed by the man she loved.

When Deonisia was still a young girl, she was taken away from her village, Taire. She was now assigned to serve the then king of Morado, who was Kitanna’s grandfather. Who she finally fell in love with, she made sure to please the king with everything.

Their love life was a bliss until one day, that fateful day when everything changed for Deonisia. She was washing the king’s feet when his right hand man and best friend walked inside the small room.

"Greetings Lord Hieron," Deonisia stood up from her position to bow to the king’s best friend. The one person the king always listened to, the woman believed if she acts right in front of the man. Then he would approve of their marriage.

Hieron nodded his head, "Deonisia step out; I need to talk with the king." The man said in a low voice.

Deonisia noticed a change in the atmosphere, and she noticed how the White Lord did not acknowledge her greetings unlike before. She packed the bowl and left the room. But no, she didn’t leave, she stood close to the door listening to what would be said, for some reason she felt restless.

Now alone, inside the room. Hieron dropped his sword on the chair and kept formalities aside, "Eusebius, What is your plan with Deonisia?"

The king rubbed his temple gently, "You should know; she keeps my bed warm especially when we go out for war." The man said to his friend.

"Don’t tell me you were not planning on marrying her." Hieron asked looking at his friend with an annoyed look.

"Hieron my friend, you think I would take a maid as my wife. To be the queen? I have spoken to Olak kingdom; their daughter would be brought soon for us to be engaged. It would fortify our kingdom’s strength and make us unstoppable. I won’t waste such advantage on a slave." King Eusebius said unaware that his words were being heard clearly by the maiden he had shared so many spicy nights with.

Hieron shook his head in disapproval, he was not in support of what his friend was doing.

"You need to end this relationship with Deonisia...."

Deonisia’s anger didn’t let her listen to the conversation to end, she gritted her teeth in anger. So she was just a tool to the king and was never seen as a woman, the thought broke her to pieces. She made up her mind to bring down the last of the Morgair.

Back inside the room the conversation that Deonisia didn’t stay back to listen to continued.

"You need to end this relationship with Deonisia, she really loves you. Or you can make her a concubine rather than discard her, she would feel hurt." Hieron advised his friend.

King Eusebius scratched his brows and nodded, "I’ll talk to her about it then, but I never wanted to take a concubine because of the stories I hear about sons fighting for their father’s throne. Maybe I can just make her my queen, since Morado has conquered enough territories there is nothing to be afraid of. And thinking about it now Deonisia have been nice to me, sacrificing everything to make me happy, thank you my friend. I almost made a mistake."

The next morning before the first cock crowed, Deonisia ran away from Morado. Being seen with the king a lot of times, she was not questioned because everyone saw her to be the king’s woman.

That was how Deonisia met with the king of Badukeh, the one before the supreme king. Who she willingly gave her body and life to with the promise of killing Eusebius and his lineage.

The fight ended with Eusebius dying, but his bestfriend Hieron raged and didn’t stop until he killed the man who had killed his friend and that was The supreme king’s father.

The cycle of revenge had continued for so many years, with Deonisia trying to kill the last of the Morgair family. To prove to them that anyone can sit on the throne.

While The supreme king Venantius tried to kill the White Lord and his descendants who had killed his own father.

Deonisia was now feeling bitter, after recollecting what happened in the past. She and been so inlove with the man only for her to be cast aside. She determined to bring every one down, both the White Lord and the family of Morgair for hurting her and playing her for a fool even it meant to spill blood and cause a bloody war all over again.

Deonisia was ready...
