Chapter 115: FIERCE ON THE BATTLE FIELD
[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: BLESSINGS ~ NICKI MINAJ FEAT TASHA COBBS]
Kitanna still felt her body tremble after the contact her private lips had with Nix’s lips. She still felt it tinge with pleasure; slowly, she came down from where Nix had allowed her to fly. Her cheeks flushed when she remembered the sinful sounds that escaped her lips and how she had openly acclaimed that she was owned by him.
Dropping her feet on the ground, she tried to calm her wobbly legs before she stood. Kitanna knew that Nix was still looking at her, but after what had just happened, she couldn’t get herself to look at him directly. After he heard her scream his name in desire and want, the princess bit her lips shyly.
"I will now go...to my room," Kitanna’s voice faded out as she tried to keep her eyes glued to the ground.
Nix nodded, "You don’t have to feel shy about that when there’s still more to explore. I’ll allow you to get some rest now." He rubbed her back gently.
Kitanna stiffened when she felt his hand on her back; her whole body was now aware of his presence and like a magnet, she wanted to pull closer. Kitanna couldn’t believe she was one to be this needy, especially when she knew how her relationship with this man had started. She was never a fan of his; in fact, she was appalled by his mere presence. Blinking her eyes, she slowly looked at him.
How things have changed between them, from enemies, to allies now to something even more. Nix even talked more than he usually did, and it was because of her. But in everything, he was always the one helping her out, never has Nix had any problems, and she was there to help him. Kitanna wished she could also be of help one day.
Nix brushed her hair gently; the brown eyes that now looked at him were soft. An emotion rarely seen by others, the princess had put up a tough wall around her heart just to protect herself from the incessant activities that happen within the palace walls.
Even when he arrived in Morado and heard that the princess was trained to be an assassin, he watched her grow up roughly at that very young age. Becoming the sassy and sarcastic woman she was now, but in everything he saw beyond her facades. He allowed her to grow, and as fate may have it, she confided in just him.
"Later, princess, I might not be around for dinner." Nix said, tucking her hair behind her ear.
Kitanna nodded her head and made her way to exit the room. She wished always to stay around Nix, but at the same time, she didn’t want to bore him with her constant whining, so she has to reserve a little bit of herself. She entered the main palace.
Nix replaced lighted the candles in his room, as they now burned brightly, giving the room the illumination it needed.
"Boy?" Hieron opened the door and walked inside the room. He saw his grandson’s eyes closed as he rested on his chair. It was that time of the season, and it worried Hieron.
Nix opened his eyes when he heard his old man’s voice; he knew exactly why the man had come to see him. His lips tugged slightly. "You never forget, mm" his voice sounded a little distant.
Hieron sighed; the boy always acted tough on the outside but he still had a scar etched deep in his soul which makes him separate himself from other people.
"You want a drink? Let’s stay together; family stays together." The older man suggested.
Nix smiled, something that was rare for him. He looked at his grandfather, his eyes filled with mirth. "Are you looking for a reason to drink and blame me later?"
"That too," Hieron laughed, pulling the wine jar he held behind him. He dropped it on the table and set out two cups, filling the two, he handed one to his grandson. They both drank in silence, the sun was already going down making a path for the moon to reign.
"Why haven’t you told her? The princess, I mean," Hieron asked, filling his cup again.
Nix sipped his drink, his eyes trailed to look at his grandfather then he looked away into nothingness.
"The throne," The younger White Lord said in a low voice. "If we are married, people will know that it is the blood of Zeno who now rules the land. I’m not worried that they hate our kind."
Hieron furrowed his brow, "If not that, then what?"
"I don’t want to put Kitanna in danger; remember why the war was waged against Morado to start with. It was to remove our lineage from the surface of the earth. If those people should hear that I now sit on the throne, there will be war and Kitanna won’t be safe. You have stayed in the time of war and you know how it is," Nix said, pushing his cup down on the table.
Hieron reclined on his chair and said, "By those people. Do you mean the barbarians who attacked us during the reign of King Dunstan?" When Nix nodded in confirmation, Hieron’s jaw ticked.
"Are you still looking for them? I asked you to forget about them and live your life! Those people are not humans." For someone who knew no fear, there was a tinge of fear in the way Hieron spoke.
Nix turned to glare at his grandfather sternly, "Then do what? Mourn my father every season. After they killed him like an animal? Sending just his body without his head to us? I should continue to live in hiding pretending we have gone extinct? The blood of Zeno?"
Hieron shook his head, "I’m not saying you should do all that. Some battle cries are better left unheard. You were just a boy but you saw all that and you know how it was, leave them. I’m sure my son is in a better place now,"
"In a better place without his head. I will find those people and I’ll make sure they pay back tenfold for their sins." Nix said with a note of finality.
"And the princess? You think the throne will be left until you get your revenge? Wake up boy! Except you want to see her get married to that dolled-up prince who knows nothing about the battlefield." Hieron said as a matter of factly.
Nix clenched his jaw when the thought of Kitanna being undressed by another man crossed his mind; his eyes darkened even more. His tongue still had her divine taste now mixed with rum; he sucked in his breath.
"That is why you are the one in charge of the kingdom affairs. Kitanna is mine, and she knows it. Until I make everywhere safe for her and my children to come, I don’t have the leisure to wear a crown and play king."
"If those people hear that I am now king, they will come for Morado again, and Kitanna would be in danger. I better find them myself before they do." Nix completed, pouring himself an extra drink.
Hieron sighed, pushing his cup for another refill. "You’re just like your father, always stubborn. I thought you gave up when you entered the palace. You even stopped sending people to ask around."
Nix nodded his head, "I only wanted my woman to be safe. Almaria and her cohorts were beginning to fly too high. If I had stayed still, they’d have killed her. Now that things are settled, is right for me to get my hands with blood the blood of those animals." As Nix said this, his eyes glistened at the thought of having the warm blood of the barbarians who killed his father on his hand.
Hieron smiled, "It really runs in the blood of the Zeno. Just like you, your father was fierce on the battlefield. Some called him the wind of spikes; he wasn’t seen when slashing his enemies. I miss him too just like you, boy "
The room went quiet again; Nix stared blankly; his memory went back to the day his father died. Nix was just a boy, but he tagged along with his father to the battlefield waiting behind at the base camp. But when the war ended, his father was brought back without his head.
When his father died, the war ended. It was then they knew that the target was just to put extinct the people of his lineage. They were said to not belong to the earth, because they were different physically and blood wise. Nix saw his father in that state as a young boy. He couldn’t cry or tell people how he felt. From that day, the young boy locked his emotions away. Not communicating with people.
Hieron stared at him for some time; he decided not to talk again but just mourn silently with the boy, that didn’t know how to express his emotions. The young boy who mourned his father alone every season, the young boy who is now a man.
