Chapter 102: PARADISE IS VERY FRAGILE
Chapter 102: PARADISE IS VERY FRAGILE
[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: TIME IS RUNNING OUT ~ DEMIAN]
The crowd began to disperse; the events of that day were too much for them to handle. Everyone left with words hanging on their lips. How was it possible that the two women had an entire kingdom fooled for many years? The kingdom of Morado was left in a state of cold reflection.
Axilla tried to wriggle her hands away from Cortez; if the fight was finally over, then it’s okay for her to show her face.
Cortez held her tightly. "Easy there, little bird."
Axilla pleaded with her eyes, "Let me go back to the princess. I don’t want to leave her side anymore."
Cortez took note of how she didn’t complain about traveling with him but only wanted to stay beside the princess. "As much as your eyes look very alluring for me to accept your wish. For now, the princess needs time to gather herself; until then, you’ll stay with me."
Axilla bit her lower lip, she raised her heels to look at the princess properly, at least for a moment.
"Do you not like to stay with me?" Cortez asked the unsuspecting girl.
"I do," she blurted, and when she turned to look at him, the evil grin was now on his handsome face. Axilla blushed.
"I thought so too," then he turned to the other person who was with them and said, "Panha, let’s leave. The show has ended; we will camp here for some time. The news of the princess open for marriage will spread soon, and suitors will be coming around. It will be good for business, even though from where I am standing, the princess is taken." Cortez glanced at the princess, then the silver-haired man standing protectively and possessively beside her.
As if noting an eyes on him, Nix turned to their direction, but Cortez exited the east palace with Axilla beside him.
Panha heard everything that was said; she also needed to stay in the kingdom. Something tells her she will be reunited with her sister soon. Looking at the princess one more time, Panha left.
Nix noticed the last few people that left; amongst them were people who were not from Morado. He knew just by their dressing, but he left it for later.
Kitanna turned her eyes to look at Nix. "Did you see something?" She asked, looking at the dispersing crowd curiously.
"Nothing," Nix said, motioning for the girl to walk inside. Before they left, he called on Chantal, "Clear things up here. Make sure you watch the people who will be going to visit the prisoners." He knew some officials who were on Almaria’s side try to speak with the woman but the place will be heavily guarded.
Chantal bowed to the instructions and disappeared with other guards. Bareea had difficulty in standing up; her hands trembled so much that carrying her child was difficult.
"Give him to me," Larel, who noticed this, beckoned, and without giving it a thought. Bareea hauled the child over to Larel and rushed inside the palace, tears flowing from her face. The little child was startled by this action, and he began to cry. Larel tried to console him; she had wanted to talk to the princess, but she left it for later.
Mubera followed the princess behind, "I will accept any punishment given to me," she said.
"That is certain," Kitanna remarked with a small smile, before she entered the main palace.
Inside the main palace, Severus stood waiting for the princess, and when he caught sight of her, the man despite his old age bowed deeply, "Princess Kitanna, I finally get to meet you. The king would be very happy with the woman you have grown to be." Severus said, with a hint of sadness when he remembered how much the king had cherished his only daughter.
"Thank you so much for staying alive; my father was very much lucky to be surrounded by good people like you." Kitanna’s voice was soft.
"I am glad I was able to be of service; I thought I’d die without helping my King. Now I can join him in the other life happily." Severus smiled, feeling accomplished.
Kitanna reached out and held the man’s hands; they were old and frail. She looked at him and said, "You don’t have to die; serving close to me is also like serving my father. I’m sure he would also think the same. You can stay in the palace as much as you want; here is your home, as long as I reign." Kitanna spoke reassuringly.
Severus held the princess gently; after their emotional moment, he allowed her to have some rest. The elderly man bowed to the White Lord who stood behind the princess before leaving the passage. Nix acknowledged the greetings by nodding.
When Kitanna got to her chambers, Nix opened the door and allowed her to step in then he followed her behind, closing the door. The sound of the click was what Kitanna needed to drop her guards down.
She ran into Nix’s arms and hugged him tightly. "I did it; I finally did it. I took back what belongs to my father." Kitanna couldn’t stop her body from shaking; she was very happy and she thought of her journey from the beginning until now.
Nix rubbed the girl’s head gently. "Yes, you did it. King Dunstan always spoke big of you, even when you were still a child. I’m sure he is proud of you right now."
Kitanna moved away from the hug; her brown eyes held unshed tears of happiness, and the candlelight made them glisten.
"When will Clephas return?" Kitanna asked, feeling accomplished.
"He will be back with my grandfather. Lord Hieron is yet to accept the will." Nix replied, tucking a piece of hair that was about to fall on the girl’s face behind her ear.
The touch was gentle that it made Kitanna’s toes curl. "Do I need to meet him? Maybe he will agree. How come both grandfather and grandson don’t want to govern the kingdom?"
Nix shook his head slightly. "You don’t need to meet him; I already sent him a letter. He will be here in no time." He knew his grandfather more than anyone and he knew exactly what will bring him out of the mountains.
Nix did not want to partake in the activities of the palace; he enjoyed his own space. So he preferred where he won’t have to deal with constant talking, caused by other people that wasn’t Kitanna.
Kitanna noticed the look on Nix’s face; he was someone who did not talk plenty until now. She took note of how her presence had changed Nix. She thought of all the times Nix went out of his way to protect her, and also comfort her when she felt alone. Their journey had started out roughly, with her being annoyed with Nix’s presence but now his existence warmed her soul.
Kitanna moved her feet to close the space between them and she tipped her toes to meet his face. Then her lips brushed on that of Nix. Then she stepped back, her cheeks warming up.
It was a faint kiss, but it sparked something inside Nix. He had not expected the princess to kiss him; he narrowed his eyes but not in anger and he stared at her for some seconds.
"Goodnight, Nix." Kitanna turned her head, feeling ashamed of herself. Maybe he did not really feel the same about her, seeing how he did not react to the kiss. Kitanna shut her eyes, cursing herself.
Nix watched the girl’s back, he licked his mouth; she tasted like paradise but was looking too fragile. He noticed she was being shy after the kiss; he turned and moved to the door, opening it. He stood there for some time then he closed the door with a click and cursed under his breath.
"Fuck...."
