Hu Zi took out several land mines from his backpack, casually tossed them around, and said, "Retreat."

Nightmare carried the little girl on his back, Maya and Lin Wu led the way, while Hu Zi and Blood Meng covered the rear. The sound of gunfire had drawn in hordes of zombies, and Maya and Lin Wu, holding pistols, advanced while firing at the undead. Hu Zi and Blood Meng retreated in turns. Soon after, the sound of explosions came from behind them; someone had stepped on a land mine, attracting nearby zombies and forcing the pursuers to retreat.

The squad took the opportunity to flee, but a cursed drone kept hovering overhead, clearly providing location information to the gang members at the truck base. Maya led the squad into a street, relied on the awnings of the shops to hide from the drone, and then entered a pharmacy. Inside the pharmacy, there were seven zombies. The duo used their pistols to clear out the five zombies in the store, Lin Wu searched the store for any concealed zombies, while Maya signalled everyone to crouch by the wall.

The truck arrived, and gunmen jumped off, following the drone’s guidance into the first pharmacy. Lin Wu heard their leader communicating with the drone operator: "They’ve disappeared, only leaving behind the bodies of a few zombies."

Drone Operator: "They couldn’t have had time to leave this block."

"Freeze, there’s a booby trap." Somebody cursed, "Pretty cunning."

Separated by two stores, the raider gang comprised twelve battle-hardened men, while Lin Wu’s side only had four and a half people. Although they weren’t scared of them, a direct confrontation would likely result in casualties.

Maya looked back and whispered, "Where’s Hu Zi?"

"I don’t know," Blood Meng answered.

From the first pharmacy came a woman’s shout, "Grenade, take cover!" The explosion was mixed with gunfire, but soon stopped.

The commotion had finally stirred all the zombies on the street. Even though this area was under the raider gang’s control, they hadn’t completely cleared out the zombies, especially those in high-rise buildings that, hearing the noise, began jumping down like raindrops crashing onto the ground.

The sounds of pistols and rifles firing erupted instantaneously, and the raider gang leader ordered, "Retreat."

As the truck drove away, the street fell into silence. Everyone climbed out of the back window and saw Hu Zi behind the first pharmacy; he had been hit by a dozen bullets and died instantly. After his landmine scheme failed, he had sacrificed himself, using a hand grenade to draw zombies and force the raider gang to retreat.

Maya shot dead the few zombies gnawing at Hu Zi’s body and said, "Lin Wu, lead the way, I’ll bring Hu Zi with us." After she spoke, she picked up Hu Zi’s body, Nightmare took Hu Zi’s backpack and sidearm, and Blood Meng picked up Maya’s backpack.

After two hours of marching, the squad returned to the factory area where the raider gang trained their recruits. Nightmare and Maya performed minor surgery on the little girl to remove the bullet. Meanwhile, Lin Wu and Blood Meng dug a large hole in the green belt.

Then the five of them held a very simple funeral for Hu Zi.

The little girl took the dog tags off of Hu Zi, kept one, and tucked the other in Hu Zi’s mouth before tossing the first handful of soil. Lin Wu and Blood Meng followed, filling and leveling the hole.
