Leaving the railroad tracks and entering the urban area, the terrain immediately became complex. The team followed her, sneaking through the factory area, during which they only killed a few zombies.

They turned off the lights and removed the raincoats. The sound of motorcycles could be heard; the group quickly retreated from the factory area and away from the main gate, hiding behind an overturned van.

Soon, four motorcycles reached the factory gate. There were a few zombies attracted by the noise; it was then from behind the wall that Lin Wu and the others heard Nightmare’s voice: "Each person has to kill five zombies to qualify."

Lin Wu looked at Maya, just a wall between them. Should they attack?

Maya shook her head. The fact that the motorcycles were still running meant that Nightmare might be sitting on one of the motorcycles, and he was well-acquainted with the terrain. He could just speed off if they tried anything. Besides, even though they were separated by a wall, his exact position was unclear.

Based on Maya’s estimate, there were eight people in total, with four riders being veterans. They were using the factory area as a test site, putting four newcomers through an assessment. The zombie-killing process involved many details and tested a person’s reaction speed, strength, courage, and more. It also allowed observation of whether these newcomers worked well as a team and whether they tried to outdo one another.

Why didn’t they come during the day? It’s clearer during the day. But Nightmare is human, and humans can’t withstand the relentless scorching sun. In the upcoming summer, activities would preferably occur at night.

The four newcomers had already killed several zombies that were drawn by the sound and had entered further into the factory area. The motorcycles at the factory entrance provided some light for the newcomers.

The next wave of zombies, five in total, was deliberately drawn out. One person, to avoid dealing with two zombies, pulled his zombie to the side and continuously jabbed it with a blunt weapon. The motorcycle light followed him, casting a beam just meters away from where the squad was hiding.

But then the person swept a zombie’s legs, knocking it down, and continuously stabbed its head with the blunt weapon from above. Its skull was quickly broken, and he moved towards the main area as the motorcycle lights shifted.

About 15 meters from the motorcyclists, Lin Wu looked at Hu Zi on his left and Maya on his right. Why hesitate? Although they couldn’t be sure of killing all four motorcyclists, it was still worth taking a chance. Then Lin Wu realized, after the squad was officially established, Maya regarded the squad’s interests as paramount.

Once it was known that Starlight was within the robber gang, Maya’s squad’s target shifted from Nightmare to Starlight. And the reason Maya joined the squad was because of Nightmare. Hence, she was profoundly hesitant and had agreed to Hu Zi being the team leader. Without his signal, she did not act rashly.

Hu Zi, from what Lin Wu and the others told him, confirmed that the core of the robber gang wasn’t Nightmare but Starlight. His interest in the murderous Nightmare waned, focusing instead on Starlight. As a former special forces team leader, he knew the importance of distinguishing primary and secondary objectives.

Nightmare also wanted to take action, but Blood Meng touched her shoulder, signaling her not to move because she clearly distinguished from the sound that there was a fifth motorcycle. The view of the lights beneath the vehicle showed five beams, indicating a motorcycle outside the building, and the sound of five engines confirmed it.

The trial for the newcomers continued, and they were very cautious, disposing of one wave of zombies before using the sound to draw out more from the factory area. By now, someone had already completed four kills, while another had only two.

At this moment, an accident occurred. Newcomer A, holding a crowbar, hooked it awkwardly, hitting a zombie’s shoulder instead of its head. The hook got stuck in the shoulder, and pushing forward was the only way to remove it. But he was clearly panicked, pulling towards himself accidentally, dragging the zombie close, which then embraced and bit him.

Two companions immediately came to his rescue, and after clearing the wave, silence fell. The motorcyclists did not move or speak, but they had their guns ready. Newcomer B looked at the motorcycle squad and told Newcomer A, "Take off your clothes." His weapon clenched tightly as did the other two newcomers.

Newcomer A hesitated momentarily before starting to undress. Just as he removed it from his shoulders, everyone saw his left shoulder flesh was horribly mangled, consistent with the kind of wound a zombie bite followed by tearing would cause. Seeing the change in his companions’ eyes, Newcomer A retreated while saying, "Maybe I wasn’t infected?"

Without hesitation, Newcomer C, from behind him, knocked him out with a stick and pulled open his clothes to inspect the wound more clearly, noticing bite marks around the wound. Newcomer C stepped back, raised his stick, and killed Newcomer A.

At that moment, Nightmare’s voice came from outside the factory door: "What’s your name?"

"Xiaobing."

"Good, you qualify," Nightmare said. "Remember, once your comrade is bitten by a zombie, he is no longer your teammate but your enemy. If you hesitate because of his appearance, it might be you or another friend who dies instead."
