Xiao Hua, Xiao Cai, Xiao Rou, and Xiao Rou then began building their own shelters. Xiao Cai brought a wild chicken, and following Xiao Cai’s setup, Maya placed it in an iron cage inside an empty railway car at the base, where food and water were provided daily.

After four days of effort, the railway bridge base completed water and electricity supply and built an outdoor coal stove, alongside a shower room next to it, allowing everyone to have hot showers. They even managed to procure two washing machines. The 12 railway cars stored a large amount of supplies, equivalent to those used in normal game mode building materials.

However, the storage of consumables was not keeping up, with the biggest issue being insufficient reserves of fuel and coal.

On the fifth day, while the resource team transported coal and also fed the wild chicken, they discovered it was dead, its droppings white and sticky. Knowing she was out of time, Maya instructed everyone at the base to drop all other tasks and to push carts to transport coal and fuel from the distribution area.

The coal issue wasn’t significant, as with sufficient labor, there was as much as needed. The fuel issue stemmed from container problems. Currently, several buckets initially used for collecting water were filled with fuel, totaling a little over one hundred liters. Calculating with a generation capacity of one kilowatt-hour per hour, which consumes about 0.6 liters of fuel per hour, this amount could support the railway base with electricity continuously for about 170 hours.

The main use of electricity at the base was for lighting, with the combined hourly power consumption of the lightbulbs no more than a hundred watts; the excess electricity would go into a battery pack connected to solar panels.

Due to greed, on the completion of the fifth day’s work, several people fell ill and began to develop a fever in the evening. The severely affected individuals included the main workforce – Su Shi, Snow Egg, Xiao Wu, along with Lin Wu and the less pivotal Lin Meng. Judging from the similar symptoms among the five, it was clearly an infectious disease; they had to be isolated in car 2, with food being delivered to them through the car window.

The five exhibited extensive red rashes on their bodies, swollen and painful throats, loss of appetite, and continued fever.

Meanwhile, Xiao Hua and Xiao Rou, who were chopping trees in the forest, realized the water they brought was finished. Xiao Rou educated Xiao Hua that water filtered through rocks and sand generally does not carry pathogens. He and Xiao Cai frequently drank such water when surviving in the wild.
