Chapter 894: Chapter 389 Galaxy Building (Part 2)_2
Snow Egg asked with confusion, "Yeah, how did you get here?"
Lin Wu replied, "I first climbed up to the fifth floor, walked to the office building, and then climbed up here."
"You climbed 51 floors with your bare hands?" Stone asked, "And you moved from the west side to the south side?"
"So?"
Stone retorted, "Are you trying to rub my IQ on the ground?"
Lin Wu counter-asked, "How do you think I got here?"
Stone looked at Shana, who was puzzled.
"Watch this." Lin Wu took out a satellite phone, flipped up the antenna, dialed a number out the window with flair, then hung up: "Bad signal."
"Come here." Shana, not having time to mock Lin Wu, motioned for him to come to the table, "They’re here, did you exit from this place, climb up five floors to the Galaxy Mall’s rooftop, then walk to the bottom of the office building?"
Lin Wu nodded, "There aren’t many zombies on the rooftop."
Shana asked, "Then you climbed to the 51st floor and moved from the west to the south side?"
Lin Wu explained, "Thanks to the artistic wall design." For aesthetics and to prevent light pollution, parts of the wall had hollowed-out decorations, with each floor having about a three-meter-high hollowed strip.
Shana seriously said, "Now’s not the time to brag."
Lin Wu replied, "If I were bragging, I would marry you."
Shana covered her mouth and chuckled, "No marriage certificate, though."
"Both of you!" Stone reminded.
Shana apologized with a smile, "We have safety ropes, we can lower to this position, can you bring Lin Meng and the Earth friend to here?"
Lin Wu looked at the 3D model. Once on the mall’s rooftop, Lin Meng would need to hand-grab the decorative hollow wall and move horizontally about 120 meters.
Lin Wu asked, "Is the rope not long enough?" If it was long enough, they could pull it over, hook Lin Meng up, and swing him out.
Shana explained, "It can only reach downstairs, about 20 meters spare if counted to the fifth floor. From the west side around to the south side, it’s roughly 120 meters."
Lin Wu remarked, "If that chubby Lin Meng can walk 10 meters, I lose."
Snow Egg doubted, "She’s not fat, just a bit chubby on the face."
"Shut up." Stone pushed Snow Egg aside, "Is that the point? The point is to get this fatso up here. Pfft! Who in Shadow can compare to their own fat?"
Shana suggested, "We can run a rope at the 30th floor, hang onto Lin Meng, pull her up, get to the 30th floor and then switch to a descent rope. We can do the same for the Earth friend."
Lin Wu commentated, "This is a bit risky. Sis, we are talking about high-altitude operations here."
Shana offered another solution, "Another way, you enter the office building from the west side, cross through to the south side, and hoist up using ropes."
Snow Egg raised his hand, Shana gestured for him to speak, "We can make safety lanyards ourselves using an electric drill and expanding screws to put a row of hooks on the fifth-floor outer wall."
Snow Egg gestured to the wall, "I’ll hook the safety catch onto the hook, then walk a meter to the left, and hang the safety rope on the next hook."
Lin Wu warned, "I’m not joking, Lin Meng has terrible physical strength. Maybe it’s because her constitution was affected during the trip through the wormhole."
Of course, Stone and the others understood what he meant; Xiao Wen asked, "Didn’t you guys travel here by a time machine?"
Lin Wu explained, "Yes, but the time machine has to be activated in a wormhole. We were supposed to fix a rift in time and space, but because of the Fortress Agents’ meddling, we both got pulled into the wormhole."
Xiao Wen reacted, "Oh."
Shana asked, "Fortress who?"
"Blood Meng and Nightmare," Lin Wu said, "They are now in Central City Hospital."
Stone: "Can we gossip later?"
Shana chuckled, "Snow Egg’s method won’t work, lowering ropes from the 30th floor is operationally difficult and highly dangerous."
Lin Wu asked, "Can we extend the descent rope?"
Shana replied, "After extending the descent rope, Lin Meng will be hooked to it, and then? She would directly fall to the first floor until we tighten the rope and pull her up. Not just pulling up, but dragging her forward."
"Little Knife, get me something to eat first."
Little Knife immediately scooped up some dry rice, topping it with a salted duck egg and pickles.
"Is that it?" Lin Wu looked at Stone, "How do you even survive?"
Stone speechlessly replied, "Can we talk about this later? We need to figure out how to get those two up here. Don’t you guys also need a safe and quiet place to rest?"
Shana suggested, "Set up a small outpost on the 30th floor’s outer west wall, Snow Egg mentioned it. Use expansion screws and safety clasps to get Lin Wu and Little Knife to the outpost. Lower the rope from there to drag Lin Meng directly to the outpost and then attach her to the descent safety clasp. If we ignore the wind, Lin Meng will swing from the west to the south side without hitting the building wall."
Snow Egg said, "A swinging range of 120 meters? That’s too dangerous. I think we should install a pulley at the southwest midpoint."
Little Knife added, "Who will install the pulley? Who will set up the outpost? Don’t actually trust Lin Wu."
Lin Wu responded, "I don’t trust it either, but I drew the identity."
"What identity?"
"Spiderman."
"The one who shoots webs?"
"That’s Spider-Man." Lin Wu said, "I’ve climbed around this building before, I understand its structure. There’s no problem. Hand me the spare walkie-talkie, and let’s get started." He swallowed the remaining food in his bowl in one gulp.
...
Everyone had reservations about Lin Wu climbing the building, but when they saw him strap tools to his back and flip out the window, Shana quickly urged him to attach the safety ring. It was only after Lin Wu showed off his climbing skills that everyone believed he might actually be the real deal.
Only Xiao Wen believed in Lin Wu. Xiao Wen told everyone that on Earth, there actually is someone known as ’Spiderman’, although because the name is so well-known, few people know his real name. Many years ago, he was arrested multiple times for climbing landmarks around the world barehanded, including some famous ones, but he was never prosecuted.
Lin Wu first reached the southwest position determined by Snow Egg, used a drill to bore holes in the wall of the 35th floor, then installed several expansion screws. Now fearless of looking down, he easily installed the pulley and arranged the rope before moving to the 30th floor’s west side. More expansion screws were installed here, creating several footrests.
After dropping the descent rope from the footrest, Lin Wu then secured it to the outer wall with nylon rope, sliding down the nylon rope to the 5th floor rooftop, and from there, he lowered another rope to slide down to the ground floor parking lot exit.
The high-altitude route was completely built.
Using night vision goggles, Lin Wu smoothly met with Lin Meng and Xiao Wu in the parking lot. He led them without many questions asked. The trio stuck close to the wall as they left the parking area and headed to the entrance.
Xiao Wu went up first, grabbing the rope. Even with a bundle of clothes on his back, the climbing was fairly easy for him, and he successfully reached the rooftop. Having prior experience, Lin Wu fashioned a safety harness from the rope for Lin Meng, threading it through a hook, and then hooked it onto the rope.
Initially, Lin Wu let Lin Meng try to climb the rope herself, but poor Lin Meng, dangling in the air, couldn’t move forward despite kicking with both legs. Lin Wu couldn’t stop laughing, and Lin Meng, her face red with effort, slapped his back repeatedly, "It’s not my fault I didn’t draw a good identity, and I’m sick too."
Suppressing his laughter, Lin Wu asked, "Caught a cold?"
"No, diabetes."
"Oh, stop kicking. I’ll have Xiao Wu pull you up." Afterward, Lin Wu thought for a moment and pulled out the walkie-talkie from his left shoulder: "Handsome guy calling base."
"Base here, go ahead."
Lin Wu asked, "Do you have any medicine for diabetes at the base?"
Stone was stunned, "I didn’t see any at the pharmacy. Xiao Wen, what medicine on Earth can treat diabetes?" After some discussion, they realized that Earth didn’t have a definite medicinal cure for diabetes. Lin Meng’s condition required insulin to be prepared as needed. This somewhat overturned their understanding; on Blue Star, nearly all diseases could be treated, but on Earth, very few diseases could genuinely be cured by medicine. Medication’s primary use was control. Hence, the invention of penicillin was indeed a milestone for humanity.
Lin Wu gestured to Xiao Wu to hold on, indicating they couldn’t leave just yet. Shana’s voice came through: "There should be a pharmacy near you, at least four on the street across."
"I have two pharmacies within twenty meters to my side," Lin Wu casually asked, "Why are there so many pharmacies?"
"Either Earthlings like to consume medicine, or there’s a huge profit in retailing pharmaceuticals."
