As Blood Meng and Xiao Wu climbed up the stairs to the second floor, Lin Meng flashed a squinting smile and bumped fists with Lin Wu, asking, "How’s my acting?" Completely ignoring Xiao Jing, who was stunned watching them, and unaware of the relationship between these people.

"Good." Lin Wu asked, "Blood Meng needs to sign in; how can you do that without a residence?"

"Signing in is just part of the mission. Whether I sign in or not, I can’t leave early," Lin Meng explained, then said, "Blood Meng didn’t do it."

Lin Wu: "What’s the situation between Blood Meng and Blood Meng?"

Lin Meng, full of curiosity: "I’m curious, too."

Lin Meng enlarged and shrunk the map, asking, "Am I carrying the burden?"

A few gunshots came from upstairs, faint and with unclear direction. Lin Wu put away the bullets, on guard, looking at the main door, countered, "Or should I carry it?"

Lin Meng mouthed a silent protest behind Lin Wu’s back, turning his head he saw Xiao Jing stood by and explained, "We used to be colleagues."

Lin Wu: "It’s tricky to explain. There are zombies."

Two zombies approached near the main door; Lin Wu edged forward against the wall, and Lin Meng, acting as Lin Wu’s eyes, signaled to him. Lin Wu successfully took down one with a dagger, but this action alerted Zombie B. In the past, this bullet wouldn’t have been wasted, but in Hardcore Mode, not wasting it wasn’t an option since Lin Wu didn’t have a suitable melee weapon to confront the zombie directly.

Cold weapons were simply not enough for zombies; even a weapons expert armed with a cold weapon could at best face three zombies, kill three, and would be exhausted afterward. Firearms were different; a heavy machine gun could block a bridge as long as there was enough ammunition, and the firearms were functional – no matter how many zombies came, they’d be wasted.

Some thought if the zombies in front stood in the way of the bullets, continuously coming in waves, they could break through the gunfire blockade. But in reality, machine gun bullets could easily tear through the human body, with a range reaching up to a kilometer. In the homeland, humans aren’t overwhelmed by zombies because they can’t stop the hordes, but because they can’t stop the virus.

This is also true in Hardcore Mode; Xiao Bian showed symptoms of fever a few hours after drinking water, and even without turning into a zombie, his bites could transmit the virus. The suburban base of East City theoretically could stop zombies and protect shelters, but realistically that’s less likely.

Lin Wu and Lin Meng were chatting by the reception area, dealing with oblivious zombies. About 8 minutes later, Blood Meng returned to the first floor, while Xiao Wu stayed at the stairwell entrance.

Blood Meng approached Double Forest, "The second floor is clear, traces of survivors found."

"Traces?"

"Yes, survivors were hiding in the X-ray room; judging from the excrement, at least one person has been there for over 24 hours."

"That’s good news."

Blood Meng: "Today is the 4th; the survivors haven’t eaten in at least 48 hours."

Rarely interjecting, Xiao Jing said, "48 hours without food is manageable, but what about water? If they didn’t have a radio and didn’t hear Channel D’s warning, they might drink tap water directly."

Blood Meng answered, "No." Ordinary survivors might, but she doesn’t care, and Blood Meng definitely wouldn’t risk it. Subconsciously, he already considered the survivors as Blood Meng.

Lin Wu: "Not necessarily." Blood Meng wouldn’t drink, but what if medical staff took care of her and fed her water?

Finally, only the morgue was left. Lin Wu took a sip of the glucose solution Xiao Wu brought back, and after moistening his throat, he motivated everyone, "I think the highest probability is in the morgue."

"Oh?" Blood Meng asked, "Why?"

Lin Wu held up the glucose, "There’s drink."

And pointed downstairs, "There’s food."

Lin Wu asked, "So, who are you following later, me or her?"

Lin Meng: "You."

Lin Wu gave Blood Meng a provocative look, and Blood Meng’s jaw dropped. What’s going on? Was he being too harsh on Lin Meng? Indeed, these past few days, he had treated Lin Meng like a tool, commanding her to work without even bothering to speak to her. No wonder she switched sides at the first sign of warmth.
