Chapter 856: Chapter 375 Eight-point_2

As the countdown ended and the portal disappeared, Stone said, "We can’t leave now. Plan B—we’ll pass by an electronics store on the way, they sell radios there."

Snow Egg asked worriedly, "Are those for sale?"

Stone replied, "Normally, no, but as long as the money is right, it can be arranged."

Shana said, "Everyone, stay sharp. I believe they will join us soon. Let’s go."

Without Maya, the Plan A to leave the city was basically doomed. Without Maya’s leadership, it was difficult to leverage the team’s efficiency, making the likelihood of surviving 180 days quite low. Even so, the team was still undecided on whether to leave the city or stay, and the delay of Double Forest, especially Lin Wu, made the escape plan even more uncertain.

Stone had prepared a seven-seater luxury van. The car drove out from the villa, and the roads were still fairly calm. After leaving the community and turning left to the electronics store, Stone and Shana got out of the car and walked quickly into the store. Stone approached the service counter and said, "I’m here to pick something up."

The receptionist glanced at the backpack on the ground beside him and said, "The boss said you need to add another thousand dollars."

"Or what?"

"Or we’ll call the police."

A fatty came out from the back room, all smiles, "Sir, these items are not cheap."

"We had already agreed on a price."

The fatty smiled slyly, "Prices change." He had spotted two fat sheep.

Before Stone could speak up, Shana, who had concealed a pistol, pulled it out and blew the fatty’s head off, then turned to the receptionist, "The radio, now."

The receptionist, terrified out of his wits, immediately placed the backpack on the counter. Shana handed the pistol to Stone, unzipped the backpack to check it, and then nodded at Stone. With one shot, Stone killed the receptionist—it was always good to delay the alarm by even a second.

They returned to the car, and Stone continued driving. Soon, there was visible traffic congestion on the main road leading into the tunnel. Sitting in the backseat, Little Knife shouted, "Zombies."

Everyone looked back and saw a zombie leap out of the tunnel and onto the roof of a car, incessantly ramming its head against the car window. Shana said, "Slow down, let me get a good look... This one is somewhat worse than the zombies in the movies we’ve watched, but about the same as those in Hardcore Mode. Bad news—they don’t have rigor mortis."

In Hardcore Mode, if zombies were attacked with a blunt object or a sharp blade, it would cause them to become rigid, with bludgeoning attacks resulting in the longest rigidity. This feature allowed players to confront zombies head-on with melee weapons. But this particular zombie was different—a bold young man smashed its head with a fire extinguisher, yet the zombie showed no sign of rigidity. Even after its face was smashed in, it kept flailing its arms and clawed open the young man’s shoulder. It then pounced on him, paying no mind to the blows to its head, and bit down on the young man’s carotid artery.

The young man quickly lost consciousness, bleeding profusely, and zombies coming out of the tunnel would pause when passing by him. As the blood ran more freely, the zombies paused for shorter times, until they started to bypass him completely. Soon, the young man stood up, having become one of them.

"Go, go, go," Shana patted the driver’s seat, saying, "They don’t eat people; their primary goal is to drink healthy blood. Once a human is infected with the virus and loses too much blood, they will no longer be a target for the zombies."

Su Shi said, "That means ten million people will turn into ten million zombies." No one would be consumed by the zombies.

Shana replied, "Not necessarily. Some zombies will leave the city. Even so, we’ll still face millions of zombies. Unless they died before turning."

As the car made a turn, everyone looked back at the main artery only to see drivers and passengers abandoning their vehicles, running back on foot. Zombies kept pouring out of the tunnel like a tide, leaping across car rooftops, chasing after the crowds.

After another ten minutes of driving, the car entered an underground parking lot, a place still steeped in quiet, the people here oblivious to what was happening five kilometers away. Stone drove to the large elevator, dialed a number on his phone, and as the elevator doors opened, he drove the car inside. The elevator ascended.

Stone said, "I had the cargo lift turned into my private elevator yesterday, and I’ve sealed off half of the 51st floor. As soon as the power is cut, no one can reach my shelter."

Su Shi responded, "Stone, you managed to be cool for once."

Stone chuckled, "Just money."

Stone was the boss of a company—not particularly huge, but relatively substantial. His company occupied the 51st floor of this office building, while the left half of the floor he’d ordered sealed off was the main office area. The shelter on the right spanned about 700 square meters.

This 700-square-meter space included his office, his personal rest area, a gym, a circular conference room, and the secretary’s office. There were two vice-presidents who used to work in this area, but Stone had already relocated them to the other half.

As the elevator opened, Stone locked the elevator with his phone to keep it on this floor, then drove out of the elevator area. He never expected to see a beautiful woman on the side pulling open his car door for him: "Hello, boss."

Getting out of the car, Stone was incredulous, "Xiao Wen, didn’t I give the entire company the day off? I even booked a flight to the island for you all to vacation there last night."

Xiao Wen replied, "Since you didn’t go, boss, I thought there must be some important work you had to handle. As your assistant, I should stay and help you."

As they talked, everyone else got out of the car. Xiao Wen seemed quite surprised to see such a large group, and while Shana had figured out what was going on through the conversation, she immediately aimed her gun at Xiao Wen. Stone quickly interjected, "There’s no need, no need, she’s a good girl."
