Chapter 845: Chapter 377: New Identity_3
"Wait, two questions," Lin Wu said. "If you’re going to the island, why do you need weapons?"
"What’s the difference between spending 180 days on an island and being in prison?" Blood Meng responded. "My Plan A is to grab a batch of weapons, then fly to Eastern Two Town. The town has an abandoned prison, where I can use my police chief status to gather the town’s officers and turn the prison into a headquarters. Eastern Two Town is over a hundred kilometers away from Day After Tomorrow City. It takes several days for the virus to spread, and during that time, I can use people to move the town’s supplies into the prison. At the very least, we’ll be able to hold out for a month or two. And if things go south, I can still leave by helicopter."
Blood Meng continued, "Struggling alone is too tiring, the best way is to enjoy the fruits of others’ adventures. To do that, you’ve got to have a gun in your hand."
Lin Wu said, "The second question, I have a fear of heights. I absolutely cannot climb from the 18th to the 34th floor."
"You’re not afraid of heights," Blood Meng retorted.
"I’m not lying to you," Lin Wu insisted.
Blood Meng laughed, bent down, and took out a big cardboard box from under the desk. He opened the box and pulled out a file. "Lin Wu, from Day After Tomorrow City, nicknamed Spiderman, used to be an extreme sports athlete, sentenced to 18 months in jail for theft and robbery."
Blood Meng turned the computer screen around, pressed play, and Lin Wu appeared on screen climbing a skyscraper without any safety measures. Lin Wu was stunned. "I never did that." Am I really that brave? Why don’t I know about this?
"You are Spiderman now," Blood Meng proclaimed.
Lin Wu burst into tears, "But I’m scared."
"You’re definitely not," Blood Meng insisted.
"I know I’m scared," Lin Wu said. He remembered an experience he had with Shana when they had to handle matters on a mountain. When crossing Horseback Mountain, he had been riding Stone and relied on the friction from the prostate to move across.
Blood Meng said, "I don’t care if you’re scared or not, you only have these two options, or you won’t survive two days. By the way, I’m also worried that you won’t be fun enough on the island for 180 days. Stick your head out the window."
Lin Wu walked to the window, pushed it open, and looked down. Holy shit! Feeling slightly dizzy, Lin Wu saw many system prompts. For example, the information for the ledge on the 17th floor: success rate of jumping down 85%, success rate of catch if you jump down 80%, slipping down success rate 100%.
The ledge is 30 centimeters wide, and it’s a three-meter drop from the 18th-floor ledge. If the system is correct, there’s an 85% chance of survival if I jump straight down. Are you kidding me? How about 0%? Can I even stand if I jump down? Even if I land on my feet, I could buckle and fall backward.
And slipping down successfully at 100% is even more ludicrous. If I grab onto the 18th-floor ledge and lower my body, I can supposedly safely land on the 17th-floor ledge with 100% certainty. How is that possible? I couldn’t possibly hang on.
Lin Wu looked up and the system automatically plotted a climbing route to the top, hopping over here, moving over there, jumping up, dropping down.
What a crappy game.
Blood Meng eagerly asked, "What do you think?"
Lin Wu shook his head, "I don’t believe it."
"Believe what? The system prompts?"
Lin Wu pointed at the 17th floor ledge. "The system says I have an 85% chance of successfully jumping to the 17th floor."
"Sounds like bullshit," Blood Meng didn’t believe it.
"Exactly, pure bullshit."
"I mean you’re spouting bullshit. If the system says it, then you can make the jump," Blood Meng pinched Lin Wu’s chin. "Hey, look at me. Choose one, hurry up, we’re both busy."
Lin Wu replied, "Definitely option two."
"You dislike me that much, huh?" Blood Meng asked.
"Women only delay my climbing speed," Lin Wu glanced down again and smiled bitterly. "Still dizzy." Visions of himself falling played over and over in his head. Spiderman, why can’t I just be the desk jockey? Heck, even rat race would do. All could be taken care of with a keyboard and mouse, so why become Spiderman?
Lin Wu said, "Aren’t I just turning into a fugitive?"
"I’ll take you to my place first," Blood Meng said. "You can go back to the hotel in the middle of the night."
"But I need to buy a lot of stuff," Lin Wu objected.
"Then you don’t have a chance, but I can give you two guns," Blood Meng offered.
"And bullets," Lin Wu added.
"Deal," Blood Meng said.
Lin Wu thought Blood Meng was genuinely nice. He’d raided her safehouse, leaving only trash behind, but she didn’t seem to mind. It made him feel a bit guilty talking to her. Well, let’s do it. Worst-case scenario, I die in a fall. I absolutely cannot go with the female devil to the island; it’s a minor thing if there’s nothing left of me, but a major one if my book is gone.
Some people tighten their belts out of hunger; Lin Wu tightened his belt for dear life.
