Chapter 781: Chapter 353 Hell’s Gate
Having passed through Zone A and reached Zone H, the intensity of the "Frenzy" here and the number of zombies had both increased significantly. Outside the H Zone exit was a street full of bars, which saw a very high volume of foot traffic, and only 20% of the parking spaces were vacant. However, Shadow Squad wasn’t to be trifled with, well-equipped and skilled, they made steady progress in a methodical way. While efficiency might have been low, there was no issue with safety.
After switching to Zone G, the team finally heard the long-awaited beeping of a car in response. Above Zone G was a department store with a vertical elevator shaft; the vehicle was near the elevator shaft. As the squad moved towards the elevator shaft, Maya stopped Snow Egg from continuing to press the key fob and pointed at the elevator room.
After taking care of the four zombies inside the elevator room, Maya arranged for Shana and Snow Egg to stay on guard. No sooner had they left than the elevator descended, and Shana called Maya back, who returned with reinforcements.
When Elevator 1’s door opened, it was packed full of elevator zombies. After a flurry of attacks, all the zombies inside turned into cards. As everyone collected the cards, Lin Wu complained. Little White Rabbit indeed provided a logical answer—it was because the elevator doors wouldn’t close, creating noise that attracted a large number of zombies into the elevator. Because it was crowded, a zombie happened to touch the elevator button, so they all arrived.
Reasonable? Don’t just tell me if it’s a coincidence; tell me if it’s reasonable, alright?
Had everyone been outside moving their guns when such a large group of zombies burst out, facing players who hadn’t formed a defensive position, what kind of impact could it have had?
"Let it go to hell and come help quickly," one of them demanded.
Lin Wu and Little White Rabbit met again, and they had already opened the car outside. It was an old white van with a pizza shop advertisement painted on the side. Box after box of supplies was moved out, a total of six boxes, of which two boxes contained handguns, 60 in total. In addition, there was one box of 24 M4 carbines and one box of 24 AK rifles. The last two boxes were ammunition, with 500 rounds each of handgun, 5.56mm, and 7.62mm bullets.
"We hit the jackpot," Lin Wu remarked, "Are all the criminal gangs this stacked?"
Shana replied, "The real name of this place isn’t clear, but if it really is Rio de Janeiro, then it’s possible. It falls under South America, and places like Colombia and Mexico in South America are notorious for their drug bird gangs roaming around. This is actually mild; there are no heavy weapons. Mexican drug birds even dare to ambush armored convoys of special forces." Essentially, it’s like criminal gangs attacking an army base.
Little Knife asked, "How are we going to carry all these guns?" The pistols could be thrown into backpacks, but the rifles exceeded the length of the backpacks, and there was only one weapon rack, and they only had two hands each.
"I’ll do it," Lin Wu said as he stuffed ten AK rifles into Little Knife’s backpack and tied them up with a nylon rope. "As long as you don’t jump around, they won’t fall out."
As a result, each member of the Shadow Squad carried many guns with lots of bullets as they returned to Zone D. The next issue to consider was: which floor to search for the manager. They had rescued 27 individuals so far, still half away from the system requirement of fifty people. Normally, clearing the instance would take a lot of time, so finding the Hidden Portal became the best solution.
After Shana and Maya had a discussion, the squad returned to the vertical elevator shaft in Zone D, only to find that about a dozen special zombies had appeared near the elevator.
The toughest regular zombie Lin Wu had seen was the soldier zombie; however, these dozen regular zombies appeared to be even higher level than soldier zombies. Not only did they wear helmets and body armor, but four of them also carried riot shields.
Outcome of the complaint: You found a police car, but didn’t you notice the other police cars nearby? When Shadow Squad was heading to Zone A, the doors of two SWAT vehicles near the elevator shaft in Zone D had been forced open, and a dozen or so SWAT zombies appeared there.
Is this a problem? Remember when Lin Ma rode thousands of miles with just a pair of horses, passing by the highway bridge Sentry Card and slashed over three hundred soldier zombies with a stone knife. It’s not an issue with Shadow; it’s about how fast the zombies die.
Besides acquiring basic handguns, Shock Bombs, and smoke grenades, Shadow Squad also obtained two special cards: Riot Shields. They could completely block bullets under 7.62 caliber and greatly reduce the damage from .50 caliber bullets.
Lin Wu, of course, had to complain, while Little White Rabbit remained open to Lin Wu’s complaints. It informed Lin Wu that this was the most advanced riot shield on Earth at the time, named MRAPS, capable of withstanding 7.62mm armor-piercing rounds from within 9 meters.
This shield was of high quality but also heavy, weighing nearly 15 kilograms each—comparable to a Forest Wolf. Consequently, the Shadow Squad faced a problem they had never considered before: carrying capacity.
Guns, bullets, building materials, cash, jewelry, and more had already brought the team close to their carrying limit. Having two shields weighing about 15 kilograms each wasn’t impossible to manage, but there were still many supplies to be scavenged.
"Shall we leave the AK rifles?" Lin Wu proposed.
"No, we need them," Maya replied without hesitation. "Snow Egg, you have a dual body, adjust your weight to carry one shield, and use the MP5 submachine gun. I’ll use the G36 and carry a shield. Little Knife, you have strength attributes, and since a bow is a stationary shooting weapon, you can double your carrying capacity. Lin Wu and Shana should keep some capacity free since we’re sure to find more supplies later."
After adjustments, Snow Egg and Maya were at 140% load capacity, with Little Knife at 240%. Since Lin Wu was carrying the Forest Wolf, he also had a 75% load. Shana was at 30%, although she was light, she wouldn’t take on part of Little Knife’s load. Although it might not seem fair, it was the most efficient method according to Maya; otherwise, they’d have to adjust the entire team’s load with every batch of supplies they found.
