Chapter 774: Chapter 350: Plunder_2
Maya said, "Yes, it’s a nighttime instance." She thought everyone knew and hadn’t mentioned it.
Little Knife realized she was the only one who didn’t know. She felt sad for a second before stepping out of the elevator and standing against the wall. She remained standing to facilitate drawing her bow and shooting arrows. However, she still lacked confidence; if her opponents were ordinary zombies, she could ensure a high rate of headshots, but Night Demons were creatures with strength and agility.
Maya said, "Turn on the tactical flashlights." Some pistols and submachine guns could be equipped with small flashlights, and the G36 Shana carried could as well.
Lin Wu swapped to another pistol, attaching a small flashlight beneath the barrel. The flashlight was bright but focused, leaving darkness beyond its beam. Strictly speaking, it wasn’t total darkness since there were emergency signs.
Lin Wu’s flashlight beam reflected off a makeup mirror in the rest area, revealing half of a Night Demon’s head before it quickly disappeared. Lin Wu reported, "Saw it, a Night Demon."
Maya commanded, "All personnel on alert, Snow Egg, open fire."
Snow Egg picked up an AK rifle and fired at random. The sound was loud, echoing endlessly in the empty dining room, then everyone heard the zombies’ deep howls and the noises of tables and chairs being knocked over. Everyone clenched their guns, waiting in silence.
One zombie first appeared within the elevator’s circle of light, like a ghost rushing out of the darkness and was headshot with an arrow by Little Knife. Then came the second. Lin Wu, using his pistol aided by the flashlight, headshot several zombies rushing toward the elevator from ten meters away. This wasn’t purely because of Lin Wu’s marksmanship; in fact, he was better at using a pistol within five meters—unless the pistol had an aiming aid system.
Shadow Squad now had a pile of small pistols, and naturally, they picked the best ones. The tactical pistol Lin Wu held was equipped with a red dot sight. This sight didn’t magnify but simplified point shooting; wherever the red dot landed on a zombie, the bullet would hit. Lin Wu had also specifically equipped a Tracer Bullet plugin, allowing him to clearly see each bullet’s trajectory in the darkness.
"Frenzy," Shana said as she followed Frenzy’s run and leaps with her gun. Frenzy, having landed, became a dead Frenzy. With Frenzy’s appearance, the zombies began their charge.
Several guns kept swapping magazines, spitting flames, and after a continuous minute of unabated firing, the world finally fell silent.
Maya, holding her guns, said, "There should only be Night Demons left on the second floor." With such a commotion, even an Exploding Carnage sleeping like the dead should have awakened. But in the battle just now, no Night Demon had shown itself.
Unlike yesterday’s darkness on the 54th floor, this area’s darkness was too vast, and with so many hiding places, a few small flashlights were hard-pressed to create a light net to deter Night Demons.
Maya asked, "Little Knife, can you stay here alone?"
"Yes." Little Knife was certainly scared, but saying no at this point meant becoming a burden. Of course, she knew the difference between being afraid and being unable. If it were truly impossible, she would have made it clear.
Maya said, "Lin Wu takes point, with Snow Egg following. Shana and I will cover Snow Egg’s flanks. We’re heading to the power distribution room." According to the information, the building had power, and so did the 32nd floor. The second floor’s lack of power might be due to an issue with this floor’s distribution room. If not, it could be a line fault or an issue with the main distribution room on the sub-second floor.
The four ventured into the darkness and had only walked five meters when Maya spotted an enemy and fired continuously, killing a Night Demon that tried to approach. At this moment, Maya noticed everyone turning their flashlights in the direction she was shooting and quickly said, "Don’t support me, secure your own positions."
Lin Wu turned his light back and saw a Night Demon just one meter in front of him. Had it been someone else, the Night Demon would have succeeded, but it had encountered Lin Wu. Lock Head’s expert technique caused the bullet, which should have hit the Night Demon’s chest, to make an impossible turn and ascend vertically, changing direction once at the creature’s head level to shoot straight forward. The Tracer Bullet drew a beautiful ’2’ as it blew the Night Demon’s head apart.
Seeing this, everyone broke out in a cold sweat. With the light diverted for less than a second, the Night Demon had already pounced.
Shana also caught sight of a Night Demon, but before she could shoot, it had already dodged to the left into the darkness. Knowing that chasing it with her light would leave her sector in darkness for a significant amount of time, she didn’t speak up but kept her light moving back and forth within her assigned sector.
"Feels like Night Demons are all around us," Lin Wu said. "How about an Incendiary Grenade?"
Maya replied, "This is a hotel with an automatic sprinkler system. Not only would the fire not last long, but it would also make the scene even more chaotic."
Lin Wu said, "I should stick all the flashlights on me and walk sideways."
Maya responded, "Others would get blinded by you."
It wasn’t that Maya was particularly receptive to Lin Wu’s nonsense; rather, all of Lin Wu’s nonsense comprised creative suggestions, and Maya had to patiently persuade him to avoid wandering further down a path of errors.
It was evident that a group of Night Demons was following them, but with continuously sweeping beams of light, the demons found it difficult to do much and could only watch as the four reached the power distribution room. Lin Wu entered the 5 square-meter room first to check for safety, followed by Snow Egg, while the other three stayed on guard outside.
The corridor lights quickly came on, and the lights in the left hall lit up but soon plunged back into darkness. Snow Egg reported, "There’s a leakage protector; power can’t be delivered to both kitchens and the right hall."
