Chapter 760: Chapter 345 Level 53
Snow Egg and Maya pushed open the massive doors to the left and right, while Little Knife, Shana, and Lin Wu each held a flashlight, illuminating the darkness. However, they saw the Night Demon within the shadows panicking and trying to evade the light in every direction. The three of them walked toward the stage nearby, where Shana said, "Snow Egg, this boss is yours to handle."
"Go ahead," said Maya.
Snow Egg didn’t waste any words. She pushed one half of the door open, took a bludgeon, and then walked up the illuminated path to the platform. She cautiously moved behind Blood Ferocious Ma and hammered away at it relentlessly. Dawn hadn’t lied; this boss was blind, and after being hammered, it could only howl in response. It had thick skin, but it couldn’t withstand unilateral beating and turned into three cards thirty seconds later.
The first two cards were identical, each depicting a revolver with 18 bullets; two revolvers in total, amounting to 36 bullets.
The third card: Auto Turret. A special Building Card requiring ten building materials, it could be installed on a small square. It offered various modes, firing a .50 bullet every ten seconds, a 7.62 every five seconds, or a 5.56 every four seconds. Within 50 meters, it boasted a 15% headshot rate. The attack targets: all creatures except base members, pets, and mounts. It caused no damage to allies by mistake. Above all, it used no bullets.
"A divine artifact," said Shana.
"Withdraw," Maya reminded.
Everyone left the dark world, heaping praise on Snow Egg, Little Knife included. It’s just a pity that her praise came without additional information, as it seemed like she had completely let go.
The silencers on the two revolvers were not particularly effective, making them of little use to Lin Wu, so he left them for Snow Egg and Shana to protect themselves. The group continued down the staircase on the east side, arriving outside the fire doors on the 53rd floor.
Lin Wu leaned on the doorframe, pushed the door ajar to peek inside, and then gently closed the door again: "A Y-shaped corridor, I can’t see the situation at the junction, but the corridor is about ten meters long and there are three royal Frenzies. They have a crown symbol on their heads. Based on my many years of gaming experience, these are elite monsters. Elite monsters are sometimes harder to deal with than bosses because they possess unique abilities."
Shana said, "A Frenzy is a Frenzy, what extra ability could it have? Transform into a Super Saiyan?"
"You’re quite the humorist," replied Lin Wu, when something struck the fire door from the outside. The huge rebound pushed Lin Wu slightly, and he instinctively used his back to brace the slightly ajar fire door closed again.
Everyone on the stairwell saw this clearly, and before they had time to react, a scratching sound came from outside. It sounded as if it had ripped through the skin of the fire door, leaving everyone in shock. Maya said, "Little Knife, come down with me."
The two each braced a door. Maya cracked open hers, and the Frenzy at the door saw Lin Wu in the corridor and charged at him with a roar. The other two Frenzies heard the commotion, turned around, spotted Lin Wu, and rushed toward him as well. Maya quickly closed the door, and she and Little Knife each held one side. Two thumping impacts tested their strength against Maya’s and Little Knife’s, and although they held their ground, they heard the sound of the door being torn apart.
The first Frenzy wasn’t so lucky; despite its immense strength, it was no match for Lin Wu. Wind Stinger side-stepped, and with a backhanded strike of a dagger, executed the monster, one strike fatal. He obtained a small handgun with a full magazine of 21 bullets.
The trick was repeated for the second Frenzy, yielding another small handgun and some building materials.
The last one didn’t escape its fate either, contributing a light crossbow and ten Crossbow Arrows to the Shadow Squad.
Shana looked at Maya and asked, "Do we go in?" The rewards were good, but the risk was obviously high.
Heading to the 54th floor wouldn’t be too difficult as long as they didn’t provoke the boss. However, without killing the boss, there would be no rewards. Maya didn’t respond immediately, as she felt the instance’s difficulty was disproportionately high.
Just half an hour earlier, the novice guide NPC at the base entrance had revealed a game detail amid endless blabber: an instance where the sum of the digits ends in zero is of Hard level. An instance where the sum ends in five is of Hell level.
Lin Wu said, "We’re here now. To go back, we either have to fight through the instance, or find a hidden portal, or take the risk to search and kill for weapons and equipment to face the crisis. Or we could try Stealth all the way, depending on our luck to find the portal."
Maya nodded, "Advance, redistribute tactical deployment."
Lin Wu continued to move forward, Maya wielded a crossbow behind him in support, and the other three trailed about five meters behind. If the situation arose, the three at the back would immediately retreat to a favorable position, use the three handguns for barrage and cover, and enable Lin Ma to retreat.
Lin Wu reached a junction in the corridor, glanced to the left side of the Y, "Another Y, a 7-meter passage, with a room on each side, no zombies in sight."
Maya said, "First we’ll loop left, entering rooms as we encounter them."
Lin Wu continued forward, his hand on the doorknob of the left-side office, pressing it gently and pushing ajar the door before slipping in. It was a typical office of about 50 square meters, with a desk, an office chair, a coffee table, and a sofa. An Exploding Carnage sat in the boss chair behind the desk, with its back to Lin Wu, while around the desk stood six ordinary zombies.
Lin Wu slipped quietly back out of the office, closed the door, and retreated three meters to Maya’s side. He whispered a brief description, "Inside there is a display case, and inside the display case, there’s a Tang Sword."
Upon hearing this, Maya’s spirits lifted. After a short plan, Maya pressed down on the doorknob and pushed the door; as soon as a sliver opened, she saw a zombie less than a meter from her. It was standing right in front of her. Maya shut the door and stepped back several meters: "Their positions have changed." Her initial plan had been to take out the Exploding Carnage with her light crossbow to avoid setting off an explosion that could alert all the zombies on the floor.
