Chapter 753: Chapter 342: Breeding Base_2
It’s well suited for a three to five-person wandering team, but in the global decay, where can you really wander to?
There’s the best of the best, but nothing’s the worst; some sell pots, some sell slippers, and some even sell snow.
Shana said, "There are a total of 1,003 items up for auction. Assuming everyone participates, that’s a thousand bases, with about four people per base."
The system provided various groupings for a thousand items, one of which was considered by the system to have commercial value, including Shadow’s 7.62 bullets. There are 60 items in this group, and it’s expected that only about 60 bases in Hardcore Mode have the strength to bid for them.
Maya pondered, "Let’s bring back the armored car when we have time."
Stone, passing by, was overjoyed to hear this.
Maya said, "Wonder how many bullets it could fetch."
Infuriated, Stone threw up his hands and walked away.
Shana said, "I think we might be overlooking the value of some goods."
"Oh?"
"Daily necessities," Shana explained. "Tissues, shampoo, shower gel, soap, and other consumables. If you calculate the timing, the stockpiles everyone made outside of Hardcore Mode are about gone, while we still own a small town." Sure, looting is difficult, but it’s not too far-fetched to consider the town as part of our assets. We just need more time.
Shana got playful, "Unless you’re like Lin Wu, that slob. He bathes frequently enough, just too stingy to change his clothes."
"Lazy and unwilling to owe favors," Maya added. "We need to take Outpost Card, at least one."
Shana chuckled, "Right, I hate doing laundry too."
Little Knife knocked on the wall, "Hey."
"Hey," both Deputy Commanders responded.
After thinking for a moment, Little Knife said, "I’ve divorced Snow Egg."
Maya advised, "Be careful these next few days. Come winter, I’m having Stone and Su Shi split up to form two new couples."
Shana kicked Maya and asked, "Why’s that?"
Maya looked at Shana as if to say: Haven’t you figured it out yet?
Shana responded, "Don’t stare at me like that."
With her mind occupied, Little Knife missed their subtle exchange and explained, "We didn’t pass the test; we handled the troubles and adversities very poorly. To this day, I still don’t know how to cope with adversity. I need someone to show me the way, and I think he needs more experience too."
"Growing together is also a good option," Shana suggested.
Little Knife shook her head, "I’m not qualified to be the one growing alongside him." After saying this, she began to cry. Shana approached to hug Little Knife, comforting her by patting her back. For the first time since returning, someone treated Little Knife with such tenderness, and she couldn’t hold back any longer, holding onto Shana tightly.
Maya interjected, "The auction matter isn’t settled yet."
Shana gave her a look that said: Get out. Of course, that’s my translation. What she really meant was: Let’s talk later; leave us alone for now.
After Maya left, Shana took Little Knife’s hand and sat down. The two spoke face-to-face. Little Knife poured her heart out to Shana, telling her everything she thought and felt. Shana became a warm-hearted big sister, listening to Little Knife and ceaselessly offering her comfort.
This was happening at the command center, and the campfire was not idle either. Snow Egg and Su Shi each had a beer in hand as they chatted.
Meanwhile, Lin Wu played with Wai in the tent, and Lin Meng did her accounting by candlelight in the safe house.
Night fell peacefully over the Shadow base.
...
The next morning, after breakfast, Lin Meng, Little Knife, and Lin Wu packed their tents and headed to the Deer Farming Base in a pickup with the Jeep’s plates swapped. When Lin Wu heard the name of this place, he was skeptical; he didn’t even know other creatures like ostriches, snakes, and crocodiles were being bred besides sika deer.
The dirt road to the breeding base was a tough drive, but driver Lin Wu concentrated hard and managed to navigate the mountain route for about ten minutes, eventually reaching their destination.
The breeding base was a ten-hectare plot of land enclosed by iron fences, containing two separate woods and a small stream flowing between them. In addition, there were six structures near the gate. These were likely employee dorms, an office, a breeding area for cubs, a mating area, and a Sika Deer Clinic.
The six buildings were scattered and unremarkable. Blood Heart was on the second floor of a small two-story building. The ground floor housed a canteen, while the second floor was the office, covering just over three hundred square meters. Blood Mist enveloped more than half of the base, including the front gate and the area outside it.
Lin Wu set up the tents on the edge of the Blood Mist, and as the tents grew in size, the safe area began to encroach on the Blood Mist. While waiting, Lin Wu ordered tree cutting. The tents were on a relatively wide part of the road, with woods on both sides.
Unlike Maya’s dictatorial work assignments, Lin Wu yelled, "Tree-cutting time, folks! Whoever cuts the least does a hundred frog jumps."
Lin Meng laughed, "Frog jumps? Lin Wu, you have a sense of humor."
Little Knife looked at Lin Meng, "He’s not joking. I’ve been punished to walk upside down for a hundred meters, and he’s had his face drawn on with a water pen."
"For real?"
"Absolutely."
So the two set to work in manic harvest mode. While cutting trees, Lin Meng asked, "Didn’t you fight back?"
Little Knife wondered, "Why would I fight back? Isn’t it fun?"
"Is that so? I don’t see it that way."
Little Knife smiled, "Then you’re just unlucky."
Lin Meng glanced back toward the road where Lin Wu was leisurely sipping tea from a thermos, "He’s set himself up to lose, hasn’t he?"
Little Knife took a look, "I once was as naive as you and gave up the race, only to be bested by him in the final five minutes."
Lin Wu called out, "Little Knife, don’t work too hard; that dummy next to you has pretty low stats."
