Chapter 751: Chapter 341 Auction_2

Starting from the third day of the event, there will be an unpredictable zombie siege each day, the intensity of which will depend on the number of members at the base, the number of buildings, and luck.

During the event, players can enter the Underground City dungeon to fight zombies, blow up equipment, gather materials, and build their base. All players share one Underground City which is vast, making encounters with other players rare.

Important Notice: Fortress agents will enter the dungeon at eight in the morning on the third day of the event, with the mission to hunt down players. They have three privileges: first, they can teleport to any portal every five minutes; second, they can use a search function once a day to locate any base member’s position in the Underground City; third, they can use weapons and items purchased with points.

Players who kill a Fortress agent will directly obtain all System Items the agent had; players who kill another player will directly obtain one System Item from them.

Upon a player’s death, their System Items will be sent back to the base’s warehouse, and the killer will be permanently removed from Hardcore Mode.

To ensure the enjoyment of the event for the majority of players, some features of non-Hardcore Mode have been reinstated, including but not limited to: the sickbed, five basic packs, etc. Details can be found in the game manual.

The event still operates on a point system, with the rewards including various supplies for surviving the winter.

Lin Meng received a message, requiring her to confirm whether she will participate in the event as an agent or base member before eight in the morning on the 24th.

It’s now six in the evening on the 21st, and players have two hours to list the items they want to auction tomorrow.

...

At seven-thirty in the evening, the group finally returned to the base. Everyone went out to welcome them, exchanging pleasantries with Little Knife and Snow Egg in the small square. Shana called everyone in to eat. Little Knife and Snow Egg told everyone to go ahead while they stood by the car, whispering to each other with Snow Egg seated inside.

Shana: "Pure love dies from naïveté."

Lin Meng didn’t understand.

Shana: "You might think these past two weeks have been a hardship for Little Knife and Snow Egg, but I see it as a gift from heaven. If they manage to get through life’s darkest phase together, their love will be sublimated. Otherwise, their relationship will end here."

Lin Meng semi-understood: "They should communicate more."

Shana replied: "Everyone knows that, but when it comes to speaking up, they don’t know what to say. Both of their characters are rather passive, and they’ve been passively involved in various events along the way. The only right choice is the proactive one they made, which was to leave the Angel’s Alliance."

Stone explained to Lin Meng: "There’s a lack of a decision-maker, and a lack of communication."

Lin Meng nodded, it seemed to make sense. Either one person should make the decisions, or they should consult with each other. She felt that Little Knife and Snow Egg were waiting for change, rather than seeking it. Lin Meng asked curiously, "Lin Wu, if you were Snow Egg, how would you handle it?"

Lin Wu answered: "First off, I wouldn’t join the Angel’s Alliance, the weak need to band together, the strong can travel alone for thousands of miles."

"Pfft!" Everyone let out a collective jibe.

Lin Wu laughed: "Next, I’d also borrow a truck, but if someone came empty-handed, I would definitely refuse, to show my mercantile shrewdness."

Stone pointed at Lin Wu: "Well said, it’s better to be seen by others as shrewd rather than kind-hearted. Shrewdness represents trade, a mutual exchange of interests. Kind-heartedness means that others might take advantage of you without giving anything in return."

Lin Meng also nodded, then asked: "And then?"

Lin Wu asked: "Then what?"

Lin Meng: "Leaving the Alliance, getting into a car accident, sustaining serious injuries, lacking a doctor."

"It’s a difficult situation to resolve because it’s determined by objective factors, not by choice," said Lin Wu, "I guess I’d end myself with a knife and then rebuild a home with my partner after reviving."

Lin Meng said: "Assuming I’m Snow Egg and you’re Little Knife, would you kill me or persuade me to end myself?"

Lin Wu: "Of course not, I’d tell you to stop whining every day. One more person is just one more mouth to feed, which is manageable. I’d work hard hunting and fishing, leaving you with two days’ worth of food, then drive to the lumber yard or Stone’s hideout to seek help."

Stone said: "But a regular car can’t get through the tunnel, and you don’t know any other routes. If you want to use the armored truck, you’d need to save up fuel for many days."

Lin Wu: "Then I’d drive Lin Meng all the way; the car would be our base. Hope is always ahead, and I would keep driving until..."

Lin Meng blurted out, "Until the perfect ending."

Where are there so many perfect endings, to claim a moral victory in this situation would already be impressive. Lin Wu glanced at Lin Meng and ultimately went along with her, "That’s right, as long as we never give up, we will definitely achieve a perfect ending." You fool, if you didn’t move, you’d still be counting coins alone in the wilderness. However, it was precisely because Lin Meng never gave up and always held onto hope, living actively, that Maya admired her a lot. It was also an important quality that helped her quickly gain trust and affection from everyone in Shadow.

While they were talking, Little Knife came in to ask for help, and Stone along with Lin Wu went out to assist Snow Egg.

Shana called out, "Dinner’s ready."

Su Shi brought a large pot from the kitchen, "We’re having hotpot today."

Everyone helped themselves to bowls and chopsticks, and pushed together the tables and chairs from the yet-to-be-remodeled burger shop, barely squeezing in the eight of them.

Stone settled Snow Egg into a seat and suggested, "Should we build a dining room?"

Maya replied, "We’ll talk about it later. Now that everyone is here, let’s arrange the tasks. Stone will be on lookout duty tomorrow, and Su Shi will handle demolition and synthesis of materials. We need two people to go with Lin Wu to the Deer Farming Base tomorrow, one purpose is to chop wood for building materials, and the other is to farm for serum."

Little Knife and Lin Meng raised their hands, "Me."

Maya nodded, "Alright, Su Shi, make a batch of arrows for Little Knife later." Little Knife had very strong combat capabilities, and as a Brawler with gloves, she could indirectly avoid virus infection.

"Who else?" Everyone looked at Lin Meng, who was enthusiastically raising her hand. Are you blind?

Maya said helplessly, "Lin Meng, your nunchucks inflict a thousand damage on the enemy but eight hundred on yourself, you need more practice."

Lin Meng stated, "I can chop wood."

Lin Wu asked, "With nunchucks?"

Lin Meng deflated somewhat, mumbling, "I have to practice."

Sounds reasonable, but could you practice something else? Maya hesitated for a moment, "Fine, when we participate in events, you can heal in the safe house." The secret agent safe house couldn’t heal injuries, but you could commit suicide, right?

Lin Meng flashed a toothy grin, "Thank you, Maya."

Maya said, "You’ll still participate in events as an agent, talk to Shana in private after dinner. During the event, we need to cooperate with each other, deciding how to stay in contact is the key."

"Okay."

Maya glanced at the time and said, "Back to business, it’s already seven fifty. Little Knife, Snow Egg, please hand over all system items."

Both of them had their mouths full of food, but it didn’t impede them from rummaging through their bags. After taking away all the items, Maya and Shana stood aside, holding a piece of paper and conversing quietly.

"Sell the guns?"

"They won’t fetch a good price, the players remaining in Hardcore Mode are not short on guns. I suggest we clear out one type of ammunition."

"Shotgun shells?"

"Or 7.62?"

"7.62 should be fine." The 7.62 made too much noise. Although shotgun blasts were also loud, using a shotgun meant you were close to the zombies, in urgent moments requiring strong firepower: "Ten rounds per set, or twenty?"

The base had a total of 120 rounds of 7.62. It was doubtful that any other base could consume them all at once. At this point, a tiered auction could be used. For instance, if A made the highest bid, they could trade 30 pistol rounds for 20 rounds of 7.62. The next highest bidder, B, would trade 29 pistol rounds for the same amount. The more sets there are, the more unfair it becomes to the highest bidder.

Shana suggested, "My opinion is 60 rounds per set, as few sets as possible. But would any base be able to afford it?"

Maya stated, "Starting price at 60, one pistol round for one round of 7.62."

Shadow had several skilled pistol marksmen. Assault rifles were powerful, and in the World of Zombies, 5.56 caliber firearms were generally more efficient than 7.62.
