Chapter 735: Chapter 344 Bomber
Lin Wu sat down to continue drinking milk, knowing that he had no face to return tonight. He would wait until everyone else was asleep before doing anything. It just goes to show, one must not be greedy. But was that even a real temptation? Although Lin Meng was quite attractive and behaved in a lovable and pretty manner, and had a decent figure, Lin Wu swore to the moon that he had absolutely no ill intentions.
As he indulged in his milk and distracted himself from his worries, Lin Wu heard a familiar sound in the quiet night—the sound of a gun bolt being pulled back. It came from a distance of about ten meters or perhaps a bit farther, near the Sentry Card position where only a small portion of the small square’s safety zone was visible.
Lin Wu slowly removed his Silencer and even more slowly pulled his own gun’s bolt, being extra careful not to make the same noise. After loading the bullet, Lin Wu checked his pistol, turned off the safety, and kept it ready to fire before placing it back in its holster.
With the Silencer in both hands, Lin Wu crouched and moved towards the railing, heading down a small slope that led to the river bank, and soon arrived near the bridgehead. Standing up, he aimed the gun at the Sentry Card position. The target immediately noticed Lin Wu and did a backflip for cover behind the sandbag barricade at the Sentry Card. Lin Wu was at a disadvantage because the Silencer was a sniper rifle, and he didn’t lock onto the target through the scope immediately. He needed only one second, but the opponent didn’t even give him that much time.
Lin Wu crouched down and called out, "One of the Three Dreams has arrived."
Maya asked, "Where?"
"Sentry Card position, behind the sandbag barricade."
Maya said, "Only Spot B has a clear view. Spot B is on the opposite museum rooftop and you need to climb up the drainpipe to reach it."
Lin Wu said, "No, that won’t work. I’ll get taken out." The opponent wore a black hoodie and a mask, and Lin Wu didn’t know who it was, but judging by his reaction speed, it should be one of the Three Dreams.
The so-called Three Dreams referred to Blood Meng, Nightmare, and Nightmare Meng—these three were the real field agents. Lin Meng and the other seven members were of inferior quality, handling administrative duties in the Fortress Special Agent Department. Lin Wu speculated that the Three Dreams must also be among the less proficient agents in the department, or else they wouldn’t have been put up by Fortress Company as a bet against Dawn. Earth, as it was at that moment, couldn’t compare in importance to Blue Star, and Fortress wouldn’t throw away their trump card.
A muffled blast not too loud, Lin Wu recognized it as the type of grenade Stone used to play with and immediately crawled down. The grenade exploded at the top of the barricade.
"Damn it, come at me in daylight," Little Fight thought, "I’ll teach you a lesson."
Of course, that was just something to say. Right now, Lin Wu wasn’t in any condition to fly Little Fight. After a year of experience, Lin Wu had cultivated rich combat knowledge, aware that he couldn’t let the opponent keep bombarding him. Thus, he stretched out his hand, grabbed his pistol and blindly shot in the general direction.
Maya, armed, emerged from the commercial street onto a completely open area with no cover. As soon as she entered the small square, a bullet struck her down. Following behind, Shana dragged her back to safety. Right after they moved away, several bullets followed, but fortunately, the opponent’s shooting range was quite narrow and unable to track the shots.
Lin Wu switched to an AK he had just scavenged, which still had a magazine and one grenade round. Standing up, without showing his head, just his hand, he aimed at the sandbag barricade and pulled the trigger. As soon as he heard the noise, he knew something was wrong and immediately ran down to the riverbank. Right above him was the Sentry Card position. At that point, the place where Lin Wu had shot from had gathered about a dozen zombies, effectively trapping him under the bridge.
However, this also provided an opportunity for Lin Wu. He raced along the river edge beneath the bridge arch and successfully launched Little Fight. The poor Little Fight hadn’t been charged and only had 4% battery life left—enough for four minutes.
Little Fight located the target behind the sandbag barricade, about five meters from the Sentry Card. Then, controlling the fire, Little Fight locked onto the target and dived down from high above, crossing 30 meters above the target’s head and dropping a grenade.
The target looked up at the night sky in search of the sound and saw something falling beside him, instinctively turning sideways and covering his head.
The blast from the mini-grenade wasn’t loud, and its power was rather modest; it exploded two meters behind the target. According to the images recorded by Little Fight, the shock wave nudged the target’s body slightly, and then the target crawled towards the Sentry Card position. Judging from the images, the target had been injured, but not fatally.
Lin Wu called back Little Fight, not having any explosives on him. No one else could equip Little Fight with explosives, so Lin Wu loaded it with a five-kilogram rock instead.
Little Fight took off again, immediately climbing high after finding the target, locked on in mid-air, calculated the parameters, and then dived. It released the rock 50 meters above the target. The rock fell swiftly and hit the target’s calf as he crawled. Lin Wu clearly heard a scream: "Lin Wu, I’m gonna kill you."
Lin Wu asked in surprise, "How did you know it was me?" It was Nightmare Meng.
Nightmare Meng said, "It’s definitely you. Come on, I’m not afraid of you, come touch me if you dare."
Maya’s voice came through, "Lin Wu, everyone will provide you with fire support. Find a way to retreat back here."
Lin Wu replied, "The opponent is Nightmare Meng; I’ve broken his leg."
In the last two minutes of battery life, Little Fight watched over Nightmare Meng while Lin Wu sprinted, running past a horde of zombies at the bridgehead. The zombies followed in pursuit. Nightmare Meng lay near the Sentry Card, focused on the buzzing sound of the drone above, primed for aerial assaults, unable to snipe at Lin Wu. Lin Wu successfully made it through the open area and back to the base.
The first thing Lin Wu did upon his return was to charge up. The second was to visit Maya. Maya’s gunshot wound required the self-treatment of what they called a "Mongolian doctor" and would need a day’s worth of hospitalization. The third thing Lin Wu did was to file a complaint: Why can patients use the doctor skill when they are incapable of using any other skill?
