Chapter 723: Chapter 340: Whirlwind

At 10:30 AM, Shadow Team had satisfied all the conditions for occupying the commercial district. Maya contacted Su Shi and Dashuang, "To sum up, the tent base will soon be disbanded, and we won’t be able to communicate with each other for the time being. I can’t guarantee how long it will take to address the issue, but I can assure you that we will try to find a solution as quickly as possible."

Maya said, "Two horses will be left behind to wait. They won’t starve to death within 36 hours, so don’t bother with them. You now have ten minutes to use the kitchen to prepare some food."

Su Shi and Dashuang replied, "Okay."

Shana instructed, "Make sure to be safe. Especially you, Dashuang, you’re not just one life, but two."

Dashuang said, "I understand."

Within ten minutes, the base-to-be spawned two zombies, both inside a building, which indicated that the zombie spawn rate was quite fast. Additionally, the prevalence of indoor zombies was a characteristic of Leimeng Town.

After ten minutes, Maya re-established contact with Su Shi and Dashuang and then proceeded to occupy the commercial district as the captain. Lin Wu left the tent base, which turned into a card and was picked up by Su Shi, who kept the tent card designated for Lin Wu’s use. The tent then entered a 24-hour cooldown period, and all the facilities and materials inside were reset to zero.

The New Shadow Base was officially established. As expected, the base encompassed the entire building. The safe zone radius was 80 meters, extending west close to the food street and east near the highway bridge. To the north, it covered the whole Laimeng River, and to the south, it included the small square and the road.

Lin Wu stood at the edge of the rooftop, looking down and muttering to himself, "Won’t that middle-aged farmer be exhausted tending to such a large stretch of land?"

Farmer Stone was standing nearby and responded, "I’ll grow enough to stuff you."

Shana and Maya were holding an emergency Deputy Commander meeting to discuss the specifics of construction. Each of them carried a package of building materials, just enough for constructing two basic infrastructures. Of course, the meeting wasn’t merely about choosing which two buildings to build, but rather about deciding where to place the two dormitories after overall planning.

Shana was against building barracks. Although they could accommodate more people, the living conditions were very poor. She thought there was room to spare and proposed turning the two long, narrow shops on the first floor into dormitories, which could each be upgraded to house three single-room dorms, each with 8 square meters of space. There were exactly six of them. Weren’t there seven? As for the seventh, Lin Wu would certainly not waste the tent base and thus was bound to establish a sub-base at the most suitable location.

Maya suggested building a barracks for five people, with one person staying in the tent base. However, she didn’t insist on her idea, mainly because she was unsure who to send to the tent base. The focus wasn’t on who wanted to go to the tent base, but on whom Lin Wu wanted there.

For example, Su Shi had a good relationship with Lin Wu, but they seldom talked, which could be awkward if the two were placed in an open space. Stone definitely wouldn’t work either, as he needed to farm. After much thought, it seemed that only she and Shana were most suitable since they both had years of partnering experience with Lin Wu. However, Maya also had to consider the possibility of seeming too authoritarian by sending the other Deputy Commander to the tent base.

So Maya agreed to Shana’s suggestion, and the location of the dormitories was decided.

The command center of the New Shadow Base was on the second floor, opposite the staircase. The space was quite large, to the point of being almost wasteful. The original bonfire spot was at the rear of the staircase on the first floor, between the two long, narrow shops, now the dormitories, offering significant space, though somewhat claustrophobic. Moving the bonfire would require a considerable amount of building materials, and judging by Shadow’s current reserves, moving it anytime soon was out of the question.

The only flaw of the New Shadow Base was the absence of outdoor small grids, making it impossible to construct basic guard posts. One could only build a Sniper Tower on the rooftop’s large outdoor grid, but it was certainly wasteful. Doomsday Fortress had an abundance of outdoor grids, which were precisely what the Shadow Base lacked the most.

Stone had his own plans. The rooftop area was massive; aside from two large grids, there was plenty of open space. He planned to mobilize everyone to bring soil up to the rooftop to create their own farmland.

"I’ll grow enough to stuff you," Lin Wu retorted bluntly.

Having finished their discussion, Maya, from the first floor, gestured for the two to come down. They made their way to the first floor via the stairs. Maya said, "Shadow Base needs a minimum of four people to operate, and we are at that minimum right now. If anyone dies, the base will be dissolved. But we must test if the license plate can still deceive the surveillance cameras."

Maya instructed, "Stone, you drive towards the monitor in the food street up ahead. Regardless of whether there’s a flash or not, come back immediately. Lin Wu, you’re in charge of covering and protecting the vehicle."

Shana added with a smile on her face, "And we’re in charge of hiding."

Stone, seeing the exchange, asked, "With someone taking the lead, does everyone feel more at ease?"

Shana nodded, "I prefer dealing with specific problems."

Stone also nodded and then got into the vehicle to start it up, "This car is almost out of fuel; I estimate it can only go for another 20-30 kilometers." With that, he drove away from the small square and onto the road toward the food street.

Shana and Maya watched the road surveillance intently as Stone’s car approached the monitor. The flash went off mercilessly. Both of them sighed simultaneously and withdrew into the building.

Taking advantage of the wide road, Stone turned the car around and returned to the small square. A drone flew in from the northern airfield; because the town’s buildings were quite low, a red light directly locked onto the pickup truck. The next second, a guided rocket obliterated it. Against fixed-wing aircraft, propeller planes were nothing.
