Chapter 717: Chapter 337 Reconnaissance
The pickup truck smoothly entered the U-shaped road of Leimeng Town through a narrow pass. Under Lin Wu’s direction, Shana drove the vehicle to the spot where Lin Wu had camped last time: a small beach. Lin Wu got out of the truck, stretching lazily as he led the horse, while Shana, carrying a chicken cage, looked around curiously, even poking her head into crevices to search.
Su Shi couldn’t help but ask, "Lin Wu, where’s the base?"
"The base? Make way, make way." Lin Wu waved his hand for the three women and Su Shi to step aside. Then, taking a horse stance, he breathed deeply, and with a roar, a tent magically appeared on the flat ground. It started out the size of a palm, then slowly grew larger before their eyes.
Upon witnessing this miracle, Dashuang’s jaw almost dropped to the ground, and she asked Lin Wu with a tremble, "Are you a GM, Lin Wu?"
"Haha." Acting cool is my specialty.
The worldly Shana scoffed, "It’s a nomadic tent."
Lin Wu patted Shana’s head, "Always the talkative one."
Shana attempted to retort, but Lin Wu said, "If you dare hit me, I won’t let you hold Wai."
"Hmph!" Shana turned to glance at Phantom, "I won’t hold Wai, I’ll ride a horse."
"You can’t ride," Lin Wu explained. "It’s not that I’m stingy, but Black Horse Phantom is an exclusive mount, only I can use it. Even though White Horse Sandstorm isn’t exclusive, you need to spend a long time interacting with it to reach the minimum level of a friendly rapport, and you can only ride it with the owner’s consent."
Lin Wu called everyone to attention, "Don’t just stand there; the tent still needs three hours to fully expand. Those who need to sleep, sleep; those who want to slack off, slack off; do whatever you need to do." I also don’t know what to have you do, you might as well sit and watch the tent grow.
Out of curiosity, Su Shi asked, "Old Lin, where did you get this tent?"
Lin Wu replied, "Got it from a train event, exchanged it for twenty thousand points."
"Twenty thousand?" The three women’s eyes widened in shock.
Lin Wu asked, "How many do you have?"
Cotton flipped her hand and replied, "87 points."
Lin Wu thought for a moment, "Not bad." Other than those words, he didn’t know how to comfort Cotton.
Dashuang pressed on, "How did you get twenty thousand?"
"By killing the Spider Train. Ask Maya for the details; I was basically asleep the whole time and knew nothing about it." The more questions answered, the more that came up—if he kept talking, he wouldn’t quench his thirst even with a whole stream of water. Seeing Dashuang about to ask more, Lin Wu preempted her, "Maya and I have been living here for two days, it’s safe. Everyone relax, I need to exercise the horse. As the saying goes: a day without a walk is like a mountain between us. If I don’t do it, our relationship will have a mountain in the middle." Randomly babbling, you don’t have to believe me, but my stance is clear: don’t ask me, go ask Maya. Ever since elementary school, Lin Wu’s least favorite were essay questions. Of course, his favorites were true or false and multiple-choice questions.
As for recruiting people, how many weapons are needed, how to conquer a new base, and how to arrange work, those are Maya and Shana’s responsibilities. Lin Wu still preferred playing on his own; he didn’t want to get stuck between three women to answer questions. As for Su Shi, it was rare for him to get out, so he should seize the opportunity to enjoy the scenery.
Mainly, Lin Wu had no topics in common with Su Shi; they got along but just couldn’t find anything to talk about.
Just as Lin Wu mounted his horse and was about to go check on the armored vehicle, Maya’s voice came through the earpiece, "Calling Lin Wu." Being able to connect meant the distance wasn’t far, but that was just in a straight line.
"I’m here," Lin Wu responded. Every former Shadow member had an earpiece, and after joining the Marching Base, communication with each other was established. Marching Base was the tent base’s real name, which showed that both Lin Wu’s and Maya’s attitudes towards naming were very casual, and their levels were equally matched.
Lin Wu wasn’t convinced by this. For instance, the perfectly good Zheng was now called Phantom, indicating Maya’s taste wasn’t as good as his own.
"We have been operating around the U-shaped road until now. You and Shana conduct a penetration mission, and it’s best to scout the route once," Maya instructed. "Shana, my apologies for the trouble, please run the route with him."
Shana: "Alright."
Maya continued, "Pay attention to the water pump factory, water plant, substation, and other similar facilities."
"Understood."
Maya said, "Calling Cotton and Dashuang."
"I’m here," both replied simultaneously.
Maya instructed, "If you walk the ring road, you’ll see many villas, with NPCs living in some of them. Let the NPCs notice you, then observe their behavior. But remember one thing: if the other side doesn’t open fire, you can’t shoot. Even if they do, don’t engage with them; use the road’s height difference to immediately retreat to the base. Safety is paramount."
"Understood."
Maya’s last instruction was, "Su Shi, you’re in charge of housekeeping. Expand the dormitories, build a kitchen, and a sickbay after the tent is set up. Moreover, everyone is only allowed one melee weapon. If you have excess iron resources, hand them to Su Shi so he can craft a spare weapon for everyone."
Finally, Maya said, "We might be a bit late in arriving."
After a downhill stretch, the armored vehicle coasted for hundreds of meters on the road using its momentum. Now the problem was that the next downhill was about a hundred meters away. Turning on the armored vehicle was an option, but having to turn off the engine after just a hundred meters felt like a loss. That’s when Stone came up with a rotten idea: Let’s push.
Men remain boys until their dying day. To ensure that the armored vehicle would reach its destination smoothly, Stone’s decision and attitude lacked any semblance of a boss’s demeanor. Instead, he resembled the little boy who ran home in the rain to watch his favorite cartoon on time, unphased by falling and bleeding on the way or catching a cold from getting drenched, for nothing could stop his earnest desire to get home.
...
Lin Sha secured a rope and slid down several meters from the roadside into the town. Shana followed Lin Wu as they climbed over the villa wall and into the front yard. They observed from outside the iron gate of the front yard for a while, before hopping onto the street. As they stepped onto the road, the nearby surveillance camera’s flash went off twice. Lin Wu stopped and turned back to look at Shana, who signaled for them to return.
