After considering the condition of the horses, Maya proposed a new marching plan. They would camp at 5 PM on the first day, set off at 7 AM the next day, and open the tents at 1 PM on the second day. During the wait for the tents to be set up, Lin and Ma could wash up, do laundry, tidy up personal hygiene, go hunting, and fish to replenish their food. If Lin Wu went to bed early, he might wake up at six, become bored, and decide to drive to pick up Maya instead. If he slept late, he might not wake up until Maya called him at eight.

Lin Wu was a punctual and reliable person, but these traits paradoxically led to an inner resentment toward rules because they added to his psychological pressure. Thus, Lin Wu usually avoided setting too many rules, neither for himself nor for others.

Taking the example above, if Lin Wu and Maya agreed to call each other once ready, it could cause Maya psychological stress. What would be a good time to be ready? If she woke up at six in the morning, should she get up and get ready or sleep until eight? If Lin Wu got ready and called her, then there wouldn’t be much time left for her to prepare, especially for washing up and using the toilet. And what about breakfast? Should they eat together or separately?

For someone who valued punctuality like Maya, she didn’t like it when people were late and also did not want others to waste time waiting for her. The lack of a clear timeline often left Maya struggling to decide what the best time was to do things.

No two people have exactly the same character. Seeking common ground while accepting differences, and being accommodating, is the key to maintaining friendships.

Lin Wu offered his solution to the example: I’ll wait at home for you; come over whenever, and I’ll be ready any time. If Maya arrived to find Lin Wu still asleep, she would be mentally prepared to wait. If Lin Wu was already ready, they could set off right away.

With marching, Maya took charge of the time arrangements, informed Lin Wu in advance, and provided a flexible time window. For instance, if Maya’s order was to set up camp within one hour, she would do so punctually an hour later without Lin Wu. Conversely, with Lin Ma, they would have a full hour to find a campsite, allowing them to either set up camp half an hour early or half an hour late.

With reasonable arrangements, after five consecutive days of marching, the two finally reached the ramp to Highway 88 leading to North City in Fantasy City. Thanks to sufficient rest and abundant resources, both the horses and the personnel were in good condition.
