Chapter 643: Chapter 308: Pincer Attack_2

This thing isn’t much good, it just frees up the driver’s job to some extent, better than nothing.

Today’s dinner was noodles, and it was rich with ingredients, containing meat and greens. Because Hong Yi was working, today’s chef was Qinglang. The taste was okay, but it couldn’t compare to Hong Yi’s skill. Qinglang’s life skill was nutrition expert, and a pot of noodles became 25% more nourishing, which was quite satisfying for everyone.

When people are full, blood flows to the stomach to aid in digestion, causing a groggy feeling in the brain and making them sleepy. There’s some sense to being called good-for-nothing after a meal.

Lin Wu, who had only rested for a few hours during the day, fell asleep almost immediately after lying down. He slept on the floor of the dormitory carriage. In Town 10, they had acquired a large amount of bedding and blankets, which were laid on the floor. There was no concern for hygiene issues, and it was quite comfortable to sleep on.

The makeshift kitchen was also part of the dormitory carriage, and the noise from everyone cleaning up did not disturb Lin Wu, showing just how exhausted he truly was. It was a quiet night, and when Lin Wu woke up in the early morning, he could smell the fragrance of the white rice porridge that Hong Yi was cooking. Sitting up, he spoke with Hong Yi, who was by his side making porridge. She handed Lin Wu a jar that contained the pickles she had marinated for two days. He ate and nodded repeatedly; it was the perfect accompaniment to white rice porridge.

Soon after, another shift’s Maya and Qinglang also woke up from their slumber, sitting on the bedding on the floor, as if they were still half asleep. Qinglang pointed at the pot, and Hong Yi scooped some broth for her. Qinglang drank it all in one go, then jumped around on the spot because it was so hot.

Maya opened the window, and a slightly chilly breath of fresh air rushed in. The train was running along the side of a road, with fields of rapeseed blossoms on both sides of the road and the tracks. Maya leaned against the window, gazing at the distant blue sky and mountains in a daze.

But the peaceful atmosphere was shattered by the sound of a gunshot.

"What?"

Everyone scrambled to grab their weapons. Qinglang looked outside the window, "A jeep, with gunmen!" No sooner had he finished speaking than the glass above his head was shattered.

Lin Wu leaned towards the window, lifting up his repeater gun to look outside, "Where?" The window was not large.

"Don’t know."

Maya, who had already run to the passenger carriage, said, "At the rear." After the attack on Qinglang, the jeep braked and followed at the rear of the train. The distance between the road and the train was roughly 8 meters.

Lin Wu reached the passenger carriage, and Maya dragged Sasha down to the ground. The sound of a shotgun rang out, and a handful of steel pellets shattered the glass, scattering the pellets and glass fragments inside the carriage.

Lin Wu, by the window, "There are two people in the car!"

As soon as he spoke, gunshots from a handgun were heard from the right. A masked man on horseback appeared on the right side of the carriage, firing a barrage of handgun bullets at the carriage before slowing down to place himself at the rear right angle of the train, taking advantage of the blind spot in the firing range to reload his handgun.

Fortress agents indeed had some tricks up their sleeve!

Hong Yi made her way to the passenger carriage, and seeing the angle Lin Wu was at, he shouted, "Be careful."

Gunfire erupted from the side, with most bullets striking the carriage. A few pellets passed through the windows into the carriage, visibly leaving several bloody marks on Hong Yi’s face.

Lin Wu said, "Maya, this won’t do, we’re being pounded in here." The attackers only needed to shoot at the carriage to be effective. Although temporarily protected by armor, it would not hold indefinitely. And the people inside had only a few windows to shoot from, severely limiting their firing range, especially the blind area towards the rear side.

Lin Wu’s idea was to open the passenger carriage’s corridor door and exchange fire with the attackers from there. However, the attackers could either speed up, changing position to avoid confrontation with the people at the rear, or they could concentrate their fire and forcefully attack the rear of the passenger carriage.

"Maya?"

"I’ve been hit," Maya said, clutching her abdomen. "I’ve lost 80% mobility."

"Hong Yi, drag her to the infirmary," Lin Wu instructed. "Just touch the sickbed, don’t lie down on it."

Maya did not object, as she was not in any condition to help now.

The mounted gunman loaded his bullets and chased after them again. Lin Wu didn’t go to the right side, instead, turning to the left. Sure enough, the horse slowed down, and the jeep accelerated. They had intended to create a diversion, but Lin Wu saw through their tactics. From a distance of eight meters, Lin Wu fired six shots at the jeep before sitting down to reload.

At this distance, Lin Wu was at a disadvantage, too far from Lock Head. It was challenging to aim as the attackers moved at varying speeds and were not on a straight path.

At this moment, Hong Yi and Qinglang were on the ground, approaching stealthily. Lin Wu also crouched and moved close to the ground, "Don’t show your head." After speaking, he made his way to the dormitory carriage. Passing by the medical carriage, he glanced at Maya and continued forward. He then pulled off a chimney and crawled out through its opening.

Upon seeing Lin Wu emerge, the horseman, realizing the distance was significant, immediately spurred his horse to chase. Lin Wu, with his superior attributes, flipped up onto the roof. The horseman immediately warned, "Be careful, Lin Wu is on the roof."

The three attackers became tense; their position was low, and they couldn’t see the top of the train. The train was long; Lin Wu could poke his head out to attack them from any spot.

Lin Wu used the walkie-talkie, "Cover me, just fire at them randomly."

Hong Yi and Qinglang began firing to the left and right, forcing the attackers to focus on them. Suddenly, Lin Wu peeked out to the right, holding a repeater gun aimed not at the rider’s head, but at the groin area. It wasn’t that Lin Wu was being cruel; it was simply that the area was large, ensuring either the horse or the rider would be hit.

The bullet flew out of the repeater gun, accurately piercing through the horseman’s groin, and diagonally entering the horse’s back. The horse, startled, reared up, tumbling and falling over, while the skilled rider managed to dismount using the horse’s body and rolled to dissipate the force, executing a textbook example of horse dismounting. The delayed but intense pain quickly spread throughout his body. The indescribable agony forced him onto the ground, with his legs clamped as he rolled around, screaming pitifully.

Shuihua spoke through the walkie-talkie, "There’s a tunnel one kilometer ahead."

"Got it!" Lin Wu replied and headed back through the carriage.

The jeep accelerated, easily surpassing the train’s speed of 60 kilometers per hour. Lin Wu ran through the carriage, bending down to search for targets through the windows, but he couldn’t locate the jeep. Then the train entered the tunnel.

Maya shouted, "Lin Wu, what’s the situation now?"

Lin Wu responded, "Unclear."

The attackers were also struggling; their pistols could penetrate the carriage, but after doing so, they had no more lethality. The shotgun, from a distance, could damage the carriage and shatter glass, but lacked the power to injure. The repeater gun was indeed powerful, but taking half a day to fire a shot clearly could not meet the needs of close-quarters fighting. Plus, the shaking carriage and the difference in speed between the two vehicles made aiming difficult. But what if the jeep matched the train’s speed? If you can shoot accurately, so can the other person.

Maya asked, "Is anyone injured?"

"Hong Yi has a minor injury."

"I’m fine," Hong Yi’s voice came from the passenger carriage.

Maya said, "Hong Yi, you take care of the right side. Don’t rule out the possibility that the jeep will appear on the right after we pass through the tunnel. How about Shuihua?"

"I’m good," Shuihua responded.

"Our biggest disadvantage is not knowing the terrain. Everyone, be careful of sneak attacks; lie down and take cover as soon as you encounter an enemy." They could already see the light outside the tunnel when Maya suddenly realized, "Shuihua, get down!"

As they were speaking, the train left the tunnel. Emerging from the total darkness of the tunnel, Shuihua couldn’t adjust to the brightness and squinted as he replied, "What?"

Lin Wu looked towards the engine through the front glass; fifty meters away on the tracks, he saw a jeep parked across. Two masked men stood on its roof, one crouching and one standing, each holding a repeater gun. Lin Wu’s CPU spun rapidly: linear trajectory, pre-aiming. To pre-aim, they had to confirm a position, and the driver was the only position they could be sure of. Meaning they had already targeted Shuihua, the driver.

The sound of gunfire rang out; the first bullet penetrated the glass and struck Shuihua’s head, triggering her Full Status instant kill protection, causing her to lose 90% of her movement ability. A second bullet followed swiftly, hitting Shuihua in the body, and she died instantly.

Instead of running to the engine, Lin Wu rushed to the carriage door. Before the train crashed into the jeep, the two masked men had already jumped aside in opposite directions. At the same moment, Lin Wu leaped out from the left-side door. The left-side masked man didn’t have time to switch guns and was shot in the head by the rolling Lin Wu on the ground. By then, the train had completely moved past the combat zone.

Lin Wu and Wind Stinger reached the tracks; the right-side masked man picked up his pistol. Wai, who had appeared from nowhere, leaped and bit the right-hand man’s hand. Lin Wu joined the fray immediately. He grabbed the right-hand man’s clothes while Lock Head shot and killed him.

The severely injured Maya arrived at the engine and brought the train to a stop, while Qinglang and Hong Yi had already reached the engine before her. Qinglang placed both hands on Shuihua’s shoulders, his forehead resting on her back, unmoving and silent. Maya, not good at comforting others, looked at Hong Yi, who shook her head, indicating they shouldn’t be disturbed.

Thirty seconds later, Shuihua’s body disappeared, and Qinglang stood still and dazed for a long time before turning to ask, "Where’s Lin Wu?" He appeared as if nothing had happened.

"Not sure, let’s check it out!"
