Chapter 622: Chapter 300 Exile Town

Maya was still interrogating Awen while Lin Wu and Qinglang lifted a large wooden box from the ground. Upon opening it, they found it was filled with gold nuggets of various shapes. This was a slight disappointment for everyone, as it meant they would need to sell the gold to NPCs. According to what they knew, the villain of the event, Black Wind Village, had influence everywhere the event took place, and showing the gold could very likely lead to being hunted.

Currently, Shuihua was the driver and Hong Yi was the guide, leaving the role of negotiator to Qinglang. Confidently, he said, "Leave it to me." His first task as a negotiator was to sell the gold nugget.

On the way back, everyone was in a good mood. As long as they could get rid of this box of gold, they would not have to rely on scavenging to get by in the future and could move the entire town’s supplies onto the train.

Before driving off, Maya stood outside the passenger carriage for a while, staring at the compartment full of zombies with heads as big as bulls. Lin Wu stood by her side and said, "I’ve already complained about this, and Dawn told me that it was the passengers, who were still humans at the time, who closed the door themselves."

"And then?" Maya asked.

"There was no ’and then.’" Lin Wu took a shot at the carriage door with his hunting rifle, causing 1% damage to the door. He was pleasantly surprised, "Well, it’s not impossible." A hundred shots could break the door.

"Don’t waste the bullets, get on the train!" As Maya walked back, she asked, "If we open the connection door between the cargo carriage and the passenger carriage, can we block the zombies’ onslaught?"

Lin Wu asked, "Are you planning to kill an entire carriage of zombies, over a hundred of them, with melee weapons?"

Maya didn’t answer and boarded the train through the cargo carriage, then she took the walkie-talkie and asked, "Is everyone here?"

"Wait for me," Qinglang said.

"Where did you go?"

"When we left, Awen said he wanted to drink, so I took a wine flask from the storage warehouse for him," Qinglang explained, "The flask that Lin Wu ’stole’ from the town police station."

"What do you mean ’stole’?" Lin Wu retorted, "That’s for his own good." For the sake of your health, whether you like it or not, I must help you. It’s both a moral high ground and a chance to acquire a flask, an excellent deal.

"How long will it take? Can you make it back within a minute?" Maya asked.

"I’m already on my way back," Qinglang said as he ran out of the waiting room, carrying a bundle of cylindrical bombs, "I traded the flask for this." As the negotiator, he had obtained more information from Awen, triggering Awen’s task.

"Wow, we could blast the door open with that," Lin Wu said, reaching out to pull Qinglang onto the train.

Maya took the bomb, examined it, and commanded through the walkie-talkie, "Let’s go!" She stored the bomb into the supplies.

"Are we blowing it up?" Lin Wu asked.

"We’ll find a suitable place to blow it," Maya replied.

Qinglang said, "Awen told me. The station on Line 3 is in the center of the State Government, and the plague has already started spreading there. He’s not sure about the progress of the plague and suggested I steer clear of Line 3."

If the plague at the State Government wasn’t out of control, it would be an excellent place to sell the gold and buy supplies. Previously, Lin Wu had learned that a group of residents had disappeared on their way to the State Government. Combining the two pieces of information naturally meant avoiding Line 3 to the State Government.

"I reckon the next station is the Night Station, and this time, let’s not choose ’Mom,’" Lin Wu remarked.

...

The next two hours were personal time for everyone. Shuihua sat in the driver’s seat, reclining and enjoying the scenery. In the train’s doorway, Qinglang sat on the Corridor Bridge, propping his chin with his fingers, silently watching the distance, enjoying the refreshing breeze. The two chatted sporadically.

Lin Wu and Wai were playing in the empty dormitory carriage. Hong Yi was preparing dinner. Maya was taking stock of the goods, estimating the coal consumption for the armor, and sorting the importance of the supplies.

Along with Hong Yi’s call for dinner, everyone helped bring the ingredients to the front of the train. Despite being a bit crowded, eating together was a pleasure.

The dinner consisted of meat buns, cream soup, and vegetable salad. Maya and Qinglang quite liked the cream soup, while Lin Wu and Shuihua preferred the meat buns, strictly speaking, the meat in the buns. To add some topics to the dinner, Dawn sent the nighttime routes, "Line 1: Continuous. Line 2: Intermittent. Line 3: Unbroken."

"There’s no way we’re going to the State Government with Line 3; that’s courting death," Maya asserted.

"What’s the difference between ’continuous’ and ’unbroken’?" Lin Wu inquired.

Maya explained, "Let’s say you have 1, 1, 1, that’s unbroken. If you have 1...1...1, that’s continuous." Unbroken has a quicker frequency, while continuous maintains a certain frequency. Intermittent is self-explanatory, with an irregular frequency.

Hong Yi put down her spoon and voiced her opinion, "It’s neither zombies nor cowboy bandits." Otherwise, who could withstand an all-night assault?

"It can’t possibly be continuous obstacles either," Shuihua said. "Otherwise, there’s no point in driving. We might as well get off and push the train, and save some coal."

"What’s your take, Lin Wu? You guessed right last time; what do you think now?" Qinglang asked.

Lin Wu replied, "My first thought is music, only music has intermittent, continuous, and unbroken rhythms."

Maya slapped her thigh, "It’s about sounds, continuous sounds, intermittent sounds, and unbroken sounds."

"What does that mean?"

"Intermittent is probably the sound of thunder, unpredictably booming. Unbroken is most likely the sound of rain, densely hitting the train. As for continuous? Similar to rain, but with a lower frequency, so that would be hail." Maya concluded, "We should have chosen unbroken. But since unbroken corresponds to Line 3, we can only choose between continuous and intermittent."

Maya continued, "If anybody else figures this out, nine times out of ten they would opt for Line 1 with its continuous rhythm. This is because the intermittent thunder of Line 2 is very unfriendly to those trying to sleep. But if my guess is correct, and the continuous hail does occur, it will damage the carriages. So, ordinary trains have no other choice; the intermittent shocks of Line 2 are their best option."
