Chapter 616: Chapter 298: Bustling
The time in the small town always seemed fleeting, and Lin Wu’s exploration hadn’t gone well this time. To assist Sunlight, Maya blew the whistle early. Lin Wu returned to the train station, and inevitably, he and Sunlight exchanged a few barbs. After the banter, Lin Wu asked, "What’s up with you guys?"
Sunlight knew what Lin Wu was asking about, but after thinking for a long time, he didn’t know how to put it and said, "How do I put this? Let me give you a piece of advice, don’t date Qingmei. She knows you too well, and likewise, you know her too intimately. You’ve reached a point where there’s nothing left to talk about."
Lin Wu puzzled: "Do we have to talk?"
Sunlight looked sideways and said, "This lady is so sexy."
Lin Wu turned his head to look and saw only an old lady, and then turned back to glare at Sunlight, who was unfazed: "That’s exactly the problem."
"Cut the crap with me."
"When the other party knows everything you’re thinking inside, you completely lose any privacy or personal space. The result is pressure and exhaustion," said Sunlight. "I find it hard to be 100% committed to someone every hour of the day. I think as long as you maintain certain boundaries, it shouldn’t be a big issue. But women have higher demands for the soul than the body, you understand?"
Lin Wu shook his head: I’m not a woman.
Sunlight gave an example: "Given the choice between a soul or physical infidelity, women are less tolerant of soul infidelity. In most cases, most men can hide occasional soul infidelity from their spouses. But I can’t, I’m not good at concealing it. Sometimes she can even guess my fantasies."
Sunlight continued, "The biggest problem is we’re too alike, same background, same education, same upbringing, except for personality and gender differences, we’re a mirror image of each other. Although she doesn’t have a younger sister, Fire Dance has always treated her like a big sister, like a sister-in-law. You might not believe it, but sometimes I quite like you."
Lin Wu said, "I believe it, everyone likes me."
Sunlight flipped him off and said, "You only exist in my life, making up one of the few differences in our private lives. Other than that, there’s nothing, our finances, social interactions are like one whole. If you gracefully married my sister, you’d soon become a part of our shared life. We’d discuss your development, lay out some paths for you, and restrict some of your undesirable behaviors. At that point, you’d be assimilated, without any individuality."
Lin Wu said, "Since I’m so important, remember to send me money every month when we reach Earth."
"Do you like money that much?"
"At the very least, I don’t dislike it."
Sunlight said contemptuously, "Stop pretending in front of me. If money was that important to you, you’d be treating my sister like an ancestress." Many people shared Lin Wu’s view about pursuing money but not luxuries. It’s quite simple—they have no survival pressures, which makes them more likely to stick to their principles and chase their dreams. However, many others do pursue money and status, perhaps because those are their dreams.
Seeing Sunlight’s mood was down, Lin Wu offered consolation: "Don’t be so pessimistic. Why do I always want to argue with you? It’s all about jealousy. Look at you, so talented, from a good family, with such an excellent wife, and in this age, you’re really exceptional, not to mention your limitless future."
Sunlight said, "I like to hear that."
Immediately angered, Lin Wu slapped Sunlight on the head: "Do you love this too?"
"Damn!" Sunlight punched Lin Wu, who dodged, and the fist landed on his forehead. Both were hurt.
Just as they were about to engage in a full-blown fight, Maya stood at the engine’s door: "What are you guys doing? Instead of fighting, why not pick up some trash? Get on, we’re about to leave."
The two let go of each other and boarded the train through the passenger car door, and Sunlight asked, "Why are you afraid of her?"
Lin Wu said, "Who’s afraid of her? I’ll have you know, she has to agree with whatever I say."
"Yeah, right."
Lin Wu shouted, "Maya, call me if there’s work to be done later."
Maya replied, "Okay."
Lin Wu boasted, "See that?"
Sunlight gave him a thumbs-up: "Talented man! Now I understand why you dumped my sister. You wouldn’t even keep your face, what else could you want?"
Maya came over, once again stopping the fight, and said, "Sunlight, get ready, we’ll leave in two minutes. We don’t have much time for maintenance. Also, do you guys need any supplies?"
Lin Wu said, "If you need anything, you can buy it from us or trade goods for it."
Sunlight said, "We have food but not much coal."
Maya said, "Coal won’t do, we can’t spare that."
Sunlight replied, "Then never mind."
"Okay."
As Maya walked away, Lin Wu and Sunlight took their seats in the passenger car, and Lin Wu, inquisitive, asked: "How did you guys survive up to here?"
"Is it that hard?" Sunlight said. "Just find the route information, take the human city routes, and do tasks all along the way. Oh, I forgot, you guys only have a 5% rate."
A fight, a chat, and another fight—that’s how it was as the train started moving. Sunlight got busy and convened with his base’s people near the locomotive. The Orient Express stopped near the stranded train, and Sunlight’s group of four quickly got off to repair their own train. The repair was done swiftly, and in no time, they had finished and were back on board.
The train slowly started moving, and Sunlight yelled from the end of the train towards the Orient Express: "Thanks everyone, drinks are on me when we get to Earth."
Everyone on the Orient Express waved goodbye to Sunlight. Shuihua started the train. About ten minutes into the journey, the guide Hong Yi scanned and received system information: "Route 1: Turbulent. Route 2: Splendid. Route 3: Lively."
