Chapter 611: Chapter 296: Choose One of Three - Part 2
Looking at the food in the seven cabinets, Lin Wu sighed wearily and began searching the store for clues. After making a round, Lin Wu was on the verge of tears, "I can’t find anything."
Maya, "Don’t worry, what did you see?" She understood Lin Wu. Now, like tackling a math problem, Lin Wu, having no confidence, chose to give up after glancing over the problems.
"What could I see? Food cabinets, tables and chairs, an A-frame ladder, oil paintings, a carpet..."
"Oil paintings?"
"Yes, three oil paintings. Three?" Lin Wu started examining the oil paintings, "Portraits of three people."
"Any special features?"
After thinking for a moment, Lin Wu replied, "They’re all very old."
Maya, "The features of the oil paintings."
"The eyes, I’ve got it, the eyes." Lin Wu brought over the A-frame ladder, climbed up to look at the oil paintings hanging on the wall, and then excitedly said, "There are numbers in the eyes, 762."
Maya, "You’re the best." For a child, even a little progress should be encouraged and praised.
Lin Wu first went to the beef, lamb, and pork cabinet, but couldn’t open it. Then he tried the seafood cabinet, still no luck. Next, he went to the bread cabinet, snack cabinet...Finally, Lin Wu stood in front of the fruit cabinet.
Lin Wu sighed and opened the fruit cabinet, sweeping all the apples, pears, and peaches into his backpack, "I’ll keep searching."
Maya checked the time, "You have three more minutes to search."
Lin Wu asked, "Did Juliet give you the key?"
"Yes," said Maya, "The mechanism has been opened, and we can leave at any time. But we haven’t found any information about the route. It’s said that Romeo knows."
"Haha, what a coincidence." Lin Wu ended the call and continued to search for clues. But even with Wai’s help, he still couldn’t find any numbers.
Time’s up, Maya said, "Retreat."
"Okay." Lin Wu went to the door, ready to rush out, but saw that someone had written a number on it with a crayon: 834.
Damn! Lin Wu hastily returned to the beef, lamb, and pork cabinet, couldn’t open it, and walked away, giving up on it.
While Lin Wu and Maya were busy, Shuihua picked up some wood near the train tracks, including whole planks. Qinglang rummaged through the trash cans and found dozens of bottles and jars. Hong Yi found some iron sheets from somewhere and lugged over a few large stones to put together a simple campfire.
The campfire was not only for warmth but also for cooking food. Although they currently only had fruit and bread, it might be useful in the future. The only question was, where to set up the campfire? There was only one answer to that question—the most spacious car, which was the medical car. There were only three beds in the medical car, which meant more space.
However, Maya halted the campfire construction, citing the crude and simple materials and the fact that a significant part of the train was wooden, which could lead to a real train fire if mishandled.
Hong Yi put forward her own idea, which was to use stones to form the bottom and surround it with a circle of stones. Lin Wu recognized Hong Yi’s longing. After the recent cold spell, not just her, but everyone harbored a yearning for fire. So, Lin Wu played mediator, thinking Hong Yi’s suggestion was good but fire prevention needed to be strengthened. Maya agreed to build the campfire on the condition of enhanced fire prevention.
For this purpose, apart from Shuihua, the driver, others took turns on duty at the front of the train, looking for materials outside to build the campfire.
Hong Yi called for the first stop, and with everyone’s help, she brought back a large amount of soil. On the second stop, she collected stones. On the third stop, she cut down trees by the roadside.
...
While gathering materials, guide Hong Yi did not forget her main duties. It had been over an hour since the train left Town 2, and the control panel had provided no information on choosing a route, nor had the guide, Hong Yi. At five in the afternoon, an hour and a half after leaving Town 2, Hong Yi was the first to receive information about three routes.
"Line 1 Migrant Worker, Line 2 I am Dance King, Line 3 Mom."
"What?" Everyone was confused.
With a sense of resignation, Hong Yi said, "This is the message I received."
Shuihua used the walkie-talkie to notify those sitting on the beds in the sleeper car, "Maya, Maya, please respond if you hear this."
Maya, "I hear you, go ahead."
Shuihua, "Routes 1, 2, and 3, you have three minutes to decide."
Maya, "Understood, give me a moment."
Shuihua, "Got it."
Maya looked at Lin Wu, "What do you think?"
Lin Wu said, "Working is out of the question. But I can’t dance, and I don’t have a mom."
Qinglang stroked his chin, deep in thought, "Is there some connection between the three?"
Lin Wu said, "The mom is a migrant worker who goes dancing after work."
Maya looked at Hong Yi, who voiced her opinion, "Mom should be the gentlest, the most harmless."
Qinglang, "I like dancing, and dancing should be a form of exercise."
Maya said, "I think there’s a definite connection between the three."
Everyone believed there was a connection, but what was it?
Time slipped away as they thought. Shuihua said, "20 seconds!"
Seeing that no one could articulate the reason, Maya picked up the walkie-talkie, "Line 3, Mom!"
"Line 3, Mom, understood."
Facing questions that required deep contemplation, Lin Wu always balked. He sat on the bed, his mind drifting far away. Through the window, he watched the sunset slowly sink behind the western mountains and then, as if enlightened, he exclaimed, "I’ve got it."
"Got what?"
Lin Wu said, "Time."
"Time?"
Lin Wu explained, "What’s the work schedule of a migrant worker?"
Hong Yi answered, "Nine to five."
