Chapter 61 - 60 Right County

Chapter 61: Chapter 60 Right County

The trade team passed through the train zone without a hitch and the road ahead widened considerably. Lin Wu and two crossbowmen were responsible for clearing the way, and although their pace was slow, it was safe. After spending two hours, the Shadow Base Trade Team finally emerged from the tunnel and arrived at Right County, where they met the guide sent by the Wanderers at the tunnel entrance.

Standing atop a high vantage point and gazing out at the endless plains was exhilarating. Besides the scenery and topography, the number of players in Right County far surpassed that of Left County. Teams of two or three players were often encountered on the road in Right County. These player teams seemed to have a tacit understanding, maintaining a distance of about 10 meters from each other.

The guide introduced the situation with the Wanderers to everyone. Their headache was base defense, with a threat level of five stars making them jittery—the worst part was if the siege didn’t start soon, they would face six stars by tomorrow evening.

The guide held a similar position within the Wanderer base as Maya’s within her own base. Maya, who was willing to answer any questions, shared her experiences of base defense with them. The time passed quickly with sightseeing and chatting, and soon they arrived at the Wanderer base.

The boss of the Wanderers personally received the trade team. According to the prior arrangement made over the radio, they first exchanged a batch of goods, successfully trading three small pistols for items like chewing gum and a cooking skill book.

Next came the time to set up shop, with stalls placed on the edge of the Wanderer base. Shana was in charge of making trades. Due to the Wanderers’ advance notice and preparation, countless players came to trade at the base. The bustling atmosphere brought about by the congregation of players was a scene that simply couldn’t be witnessed in Left County, making a direct impression on the trade team.

The core members of the Wanderers and people like Lin Wu exchanged experiences over tea. Since Lin Wu had multiple close encounters with mutant zombies, he shared his encounters with Blind Bats, Night Demons, Frenzy, and Blood Plague. According to the Wanderers’ members, Frenzy was encountered quite frequently in Right County and Night Demons occasionally as well. It was the first time they had heard about Blind Bats and Blood Ferocious Ma. Shadow Base got wind of a new type of mutant zombie from the Wanderers.

This new type of mutant zombie was a kind of semi-flying zombie, named Six Wings. These zombies had wings on their backs but didn’t fly. They were called semi-flying because they were adept at climbing trees and liked to hide in the tree canopy, making them the only known zombie variant capable of climbing up vertical ladders.

When Six Wings zombies spotted their prey, they would leap out and spread their wings, swooping down on ground players in a gliding fashion. Due to their weight being similar to that of humans, combined with the force of momentum, they could inflict substantial damage on players.

After being tackled by a zombie, the importance of the strength attribute became clear; players who had enhanced their strength could push the zombie aside immediately. Players who had not increased their strength had no choice but to rely on rapidly consuming their stamina to fend off the zombie.

Six Wings would make no sound before attacking, and they didn’t adhere to any behavioural patterns of day and night. The most effective way to deal with them was to stay away from high places, such as water towers, signal towers, or buildings taller than four stories where Six Wings might lurk.

According to statistics from the Wanderer base, Frenzy currently ranked as the number one killer of players. Lin Wu shared his experiences in combating Frenzy and practiced on-site with members of the Wanderers. In the end, Lin Wu formally introduced the number one killer of Frenzy: Little Knife.

"Hug Frenzy and shoot at its head repeatedly?"

Little Knife nodded, "A scratch and a bite can only cause 60% infectivity. If you use your injured arm to pin its neck, you’ll have enough time to fire three shots at its head with a pistol."

A girl asked, "Isn’t that disgusting?"

Little Knife replied, "It’s not disgusting."

The Deputy Commander, who often joked around, collapsed onto the ground, "My queen, please accept my kneeling admiration."

...

Despite the large number of players, the trading scene was orderly. Some bases took the opportunity to set up nearby, seeking trading chances. This orderliness was mainly because the players’ combat abilities were fairly low, and no one had the capacity to rob and kill in broad daylight and live to leave the scene.

However, the Deputy Commander told Lin Wu and others that although armed robbery had never occurred in Right County, incidents of secret attacks did occur frequently. For example, leading a group of zombies on an evening stroll to an opposing player’s base. Or deliberately running past a player with a Frenzy in tow. Or making loud noises on purpose to disrupt other players’ scavenging.

During this time, a player named Black Coal approached Maya, hoping to join Shadow Base. Maya stated that recruiting was the Commander’s job, and using the Wanderer’s radio, she connected Black Coal directly with Stone. After a brief chat, Stone decided not to accept new members. Black Coal didn’t give up, stating the number of players in Right County was too high, and he wanted to follow the Shadow Trade Team to Left County to expand. Because they had to go through the dangerous Blood Plague zone, Maya turned down his request.

Others who made similar requests included two sisters and a pair of men who were members of Burnout Base. They were willing to trade a Cultivation Skill Book in exchange for passage to Left County with the Shadow Trade Team. Maya refused them as well.

The last task for the Shadow Trade Team was to escort a female doctor to Left County. The doctor’s name was Emerald Feather, a casualty of a love triangle. She had contacted the Wanderer base a few days ago seeking a doctor for Stone, and they had already discussed this matter. Since halfway doctor Shana had joined, Stone hadn’t brought it up again. Recently, with Invincible Base in Left County in need of a doctor, Stone introduced Emerald Feather to Invincible.

This was a matter jointly handled by the three largest bases in North City. According to Stone, if this business was handled well, it would create a lot of room for future cooperation among the three bases. From a certain perspective, this matter had a bit of a governmental flavor to it, and ultimately, Stone convinced Maya to safely bring Emerald Feather to Left County.

Emerald Feather was a very beautiful girl who left a good impression on everyone the first time they met and spoke. The trade team had not expected Emerald Feather to be the loser of a love triangle. After getting to know her romantic rival, everyone chatted privately and believed that in terms of appearance, conversation, demeanor, and education, the rival was no match for Emerald Feather.

Curiosity-kitten Lin Wu, who wasn’t good at prying, urged Little Knife, that fool, to stick his neck out. Faced with everyone’s curiosity, Emerald Feather candidly admitted that it was just love.

Maya traded a small handgun to Emerald Feather and shook hands with the members of the Wanderer Base to say goodbye. At one in the afternoon, the group set off on their return journey to the city, seemingly unaware of the 5 players who quietly followed them.

"Bro, don’t make trouble."

"They have more people, and you four would be at a disadvantage if you fight. Even if you could succeed, you wouldn’t have time to loot the bags. I’m familiar with robbery and murder, count me in."

"Why should you be counted in?"

"I have night vision goggles and firecrackers, which will let me follow them from a distance. At the crucial moment, I’ll send over two firecrackers, and we can just lie down and loot the bags."

"Fine, which bag do you want? You’ll only get one."

"I want Lin Wu’s backpack."

"The tall one, carrying the long rifle?"

"That’s right."

The 5 people watched the trade team enter the tunnel and after waiting a moment, they also entered inside. Black Coal used a crude night vision device and a flashlight to determine that the trade team was twenty meters ahead, and the 5 of them followed silently, keeping a certain distance. After walking for a while, they noticed the flashlight stopped moving forward, and what was worse, the light of the flashlight began to move back towards them.

Black Coal quickly signaled everyone to retreat. At that moment, torches on both sides of the tunnel were lit, revealing two people standing at each entrance of the hidden car caverns, each of them holding a weapon. The flashlight also moved closer, it was Lin Wu, Emerald Feather, and Little Knife, and they all had guns in their hands.

Black Coal hurriedly said, "Great heroes, we really can’t survive in Right County, please take us with you."

Emerald Feather recognized Black Coal and said, "Black Coal, it’s not that we won’t take you, but the road ahead is more dangerous with more people."

Lin Wu questioned, "Emerald Feather, why do you feel the need to explain?" As he spoke, he pulled the trigger.

Pure Courtesy: If you can’t beat them, pray the other side has conscience or no brains.

Courtesy before force: If you can fight, but victory would come at a high cost for yourself.

Force before courtesy: If after fighting for a while, it looks like you might be at a disadvantage.

Pure force: Overwhelming power, too lazy for words.
