Chapter 602: Chapter 293: Kindness
Just as Lin Wu was feeling uncertain, Maya ran into the station. She found the cells, took the keys from a wall, and started trying different keys in the locks. Lin Wu asked, "Switching careers? Planning on settling down here?"
Maya said, "The town bell has been rung. The MoMo trio is coming to raid the town; the sheriff has already gone north to confront them."
Lin Wu was taken aback, "Why didn’t I ever think of raiding a town?" Clearly, I lack the criminal gene; I am just too kind-hearted.
Maya unlocked the cell and headed to the side. Lin Wu said, "The door’s not that way."
Maya replied, "The armory."
Though called a station, there was only one sheriff. As for the armory, it only had two revolvers with full chambers. There was also a blunt baton, a dagger, and a machete.
Watching Maya deftly gather weapons, Lin Wu asked weakly from the side, "I’m still feeling a bit uneasy about robbing the station."
Ignoring Lin Wu’s nonsense, Maya handed him the dagger and took the rest for herself.
No sooner had the two of them left the station than they saw a man gallop past. A bandit with Dage’s forehead shot the sheriff’s body off the horse behind him, then fired into the sky, "Black Wind MoMo has taken over Town No. 1; all who dare to resist will be killed without mercy."
Then the bandit’s head was blown off by a shot. Lin Wu adeptly looted the corpse, taking away a revolver and an ammo pouch with twelve bullets.
While Maya remained on guard with the repeater gun, Erge came charging fiercely, guns in both hands, firing and shouting, "Big brother!"
Maya pulled the trigger, and a wisp of blue smoke rose from the repeater gun; Erge fell from his horse. Maya removed the spent round from her mouth and reloaded the repeater gun. A bullet struck the wall just a meter from Maya, but she remained unshaken as she loaded her gun. That was because Sange had arrived, dragging the injured Erge to the side and, from a distance of 15 meters, opened fire on Maya with the repeater gun.
Maya took aim and killed Erge, which made Lin Wu jump up and down, "Why were you in such a hurry to kill him?" The body, ah!
Just as Maya was about to respond, a bullet whizzed past her ear; she immediately ducked down.
Lin Wu mounted a horse, using his riding skills to turn the animal around and charged at Sange. Sange fired, missing Lin Wu but killing the horse; Lin Wu was thrown off and landed face-first in front of Sange.
As Sange raised the damning revolver, a wooden plank came whistling down on the back of his head—who else but Qinglang? Qinglang kept beating the fallen Sange with the plank. Lin Wu ignored Qinglang and hurried to loot Erge’s body, but there wasn’t enough time before the body respawned. As Sange died, he immediately stopped Qinglang. This time, Lin Wu successfully looted a repeater gun and ten repeater bullets, along with a card: Supply Car.
The Supply Car had just one narrow aisle, its function like that of a non-hardcore storage warehouse, able to hold all your items.
A triumphant Lin Wu stood up, cursed, then collapsed to the ground. Broken leg.
Just then, the first whistle sounded, signaling from Shuihua for everyone to wrap up their current tasks quickly. Maya and Qinglang helped Lin Wu up, saying, "I know where the clinic is."
Lin Wu said, "There’s no time, just go."
As they walked, Maya peered into the darkness and after some calculation said, "We have about 10 minutes left."
The clinic was close by, and upon entering, the doctor quickly assessed the situation, saying, "The treatment will take 10 minutes."
"Do it," Maya responded, then turned to Qinglang, "Time yourself, look for clues." With Lin Wu’s injury, it was as if we were playing at half strength.
Lin Wu said, "I’m guessing Line 3 leads to the snowy plains... Ah!" As the doctor set the bone, Lin Wu screamed in pain, but even amidst his screams, he handed the train ticket to Maya, "Doctor, it hurts a lot."
The doctor said, "Alright, rest up. You seem like smart folks from out of town; I have a puzzle here that the locals can’t solve. Can you help me with it?"
"What puzzle?"
The doctor took out a small wooden box containing eight blocks and passed it to Lin Wu, "I got these blocks by chance, and some say arranging them in the right order will reveal a treasure map."
Lin Wu looked at it and said, "Klotski." One square was empty, and by moving the blocks to a specific spot, success would be achieved. But what did the pattern on the blocks mean?
Maya took the box; yes, it was the pattern she had seen in the tunnel. It seemed necessary to arrange the blocks in sequence. After pondering for a moment, she could only determine the positions of the first and second blocks. There was only one thing to do now, to assemble the blocks into a map.
If only Shana were here, with her memory, solving this puzzle would have been a piece of cake.
Lin Wu leaned in to speak, but Maya hissed, "Shush!"
Stupid woman!
After studying it for half a minute, Maya began to work. After some frantic shuffling, she handed the box back to the doctor who, after a moment of scrutiny, was very pleased, "That’s right, just like that. This is a gift for you."
Upon finishing, he handed Maya a card: Medical Car.
Maya pocketed the card and immediately went to help Lin Wu, "Let’s go."
"Can’t walk."
"We’ll treat it back home."
"But it’s half-treated already." Who does that?
Complaining as he was, Lin Wu got out of bed anyway. As soon as he touched the floor, a piercing pain shot through him. Maya supported Lin Wu, putting his arm over her shoulder, encouragingly saying, "The pain is temporary."
Lin Wu replied, "But the pain is mine."
