Chapter 577: Chapter 284: Shipyard Base
The girl’s name is Hong Yi, and she has lived in South City of Technology City, Left County, North Town since birth, knowing the local situation like the back of her hand. Her Life Skills evolved from Fishing: Fisher.
The two boys, similar to Maya and Lin Wu, are newcomers from eight months ago, both having died at the hands of zombies.
The first boy is named Qinglang, like Lin Wu, a fresh college graduate, with Life Skills upgraded from a chef to a nutritionist. The food he cooked could increase the servings by 25%.
The second boy is named Shuihua, twenty-seven years old, pursuing a medical doctorate and also a first-aid doctor. He is the general practitioner of the Night Moon base.
Night Moon is a base utterly different from Shadow, or it could be said that the situation in Technology City is vastly different from Future City. In Future City, players’ biggest threat comes from zombies, but resources are relatively abundant. There’s plenty of wood in the mountains that can be converted into building materials, one can hunt, farm outdoors, fish in rivers, and drive fish into enclosures at the sea.
In Technology City, or at least its towns, people don’t have to worry too much about the threat of zombies. Their daily focus is on survival, with life largely detached from town. North Lake, with its abundance of resources, becomes their security for survival. Since the entire group follows the same path, it leads to them having very low armament levels and they are incapable when faced with zombie sieges.
However, they have their own strategy, known as Qiankun Big Move. They prepare two bases in advance. Whenever Base A receives a siege alert, they use the 10-minute preparation time to move supplies to Base B or somewhere outside Base A. When zombies dismantle the base and the siege ends, they can consider settling in Base B or moving back to Base A.
This is one of the reasons they need allies. When the Night Moon base is under attack, they can transport their supplies to the Lin Ma base. If the Lin Ma base is attacked, Lin Ma can move their supplies to the Night Moon base. The advantages of this tactic are obvious, with only construction materials being lost. There are birch forests along the road, and Windbreak Woods one kilometer away; tree felling can be exchanged for building materials.
As long as they work hard without pursuing a high quality of life, Qiankun Big Move is a very good strategy to deal with zombie sieges. It’s not a method they came up with, but what locals do. One of the main reasons is the vast land with sparse population; buildings are spaced too far apart, making scavenging difficult, leading to a severe scarcity of bullets. The three of Night Moon each have an assault rifle, but together they only have thirty bullets.
The second reason is also due to the sparse population, making it difficult for player bases to form alliances. It’s wasteful for a small or medium-sized base to have two doctors, but without two doctors, members can’t receive effective treatment. Therefore, avoiding conflict is one of their survival principles. As for serum, it’s considered a luxury in the area. Moreover, without fighting, it’s naturally hard to obtain serum.
The third reason is that the system only recommends small bases near North Town, without medium-sized bases like the Hilltop Church, preventing players from achieving a scale of congregation. Night Moon base’s peak population was six people, which was considered a large base locally.
In a nutshell: Due to geographical limitations, players in Technology City struggle to develop but in return face a low density of zombies. No joke, here you could go ten days to half a month without encountering a single zombie if you don’t actively seek them out. Whereas in Future City, zombies are a constant nuisance.
What’s more troubling for Night Moon is a horse, their second one, named Chasing Wind. The first, a mare named Chasing Sun, was bitten to death by a Night Moon Wolf one night. Ironically, the original leader of Night Moon named the base after wolf culture, and yet they are frequently harassed by the Night Moon Wolves.
This ferryboat is a regular two-tiered one, akin to a double-decker bus. The bottom level, no more than two and a half meters high, isn’t suitable for Chasing Wind’s accommodation. Unable to climb stairs to reach the open-air top level, Chasing Wind has no choice but to stay outside the boat. Recently, Night Moon Wolves have been spotted nearby, seemingly targeting Chasing Wind. Today, Hong Yi pursued and shot a Night Moon Wolf scout dead in the desert, hoping to intimidate the wolf pack by doing so.
In the midst of this conversation, Shuihua said, "I’ll take you two to see the prospective base."
The ferryboat is not a system-recommended base, having been split in two. The first base is centered around the foredeck, covering up to 60% of the cabin and open-top area. The second base, centered around the aft deck, also has a 60% coverage area. That is to say, there is a 10% overlap in the safety zones of the two bases.
Both the bow and stern have a ramp that leads straight into the cabin. Inside the cabin are narrow stairs leading to the top. The top level, much like the cabin, is filled with immovable chairs. Night Moon base currently occupies the bow.
The internal space is not large, with everything in plain view, and there’s not much to see. Shuihua handed Maya two packs of building materials, and with directness, Maya established the ferryboat base at the stern. The ferryboat base doesn’t have large compartments but three small sections: the aft deck, cabin, and top level. Maya used the remaining materials to build a crafting area.
Qinglang brought two blankets and a ceramic container for water. To this, Lin Wu expressed repeated thanks, and Qinglang responded, "Lin Wu, too much politeness seems off-putting. You can tell us whatever you need."
"Thank you very much for your help," Lin Wu said as he saw Qinglang off, returning to say, "Was that overdone? Could it be a front for a scam?" He was not used to people being overly kind to him.
