Chapter 555: Chapter 275 Win-Win Cooperation_2
Viewed from above, this is a car maze located in Shuixi, littered with many zombies. In the pre-hardcore era, Shadow would have avoided this area.
Nightmare drove into the roundabout, went straight to the innermost circle, and then started driving in reverse. Lin Wu had no time to admire Nightmare’s discovery as the speed of the car slowed down and the zombies began to attack the vehicle.
Unless you had a Lock Head, it was very difficult to shoot a zombie in the head from inside a car. Lin Wu was using an assault rifle this time, not aiming to kill, but to stiffen them with bullets, reducing the impact of the zombies’ assaults. Even then, a zombie lunged and clung to the hood, Nightmare controlled the steering wheel with one hand and took the pistol from the center console, firing through the windshield and blowing the zombie’s head off.
"Exiting the roundabout," Nightmare steered, and Lin Wu, holding onto the car’s grab handle with one hand, fired his weapon with the other, taking down zombies that approached the car. Maya followed closely, passing through before the zombies could get up again.
Glancing in the rearview mirror, Nightmare praised, "Not bad, Maya, unbeatable in cooperation with us."
Lin Wu reloaded his magazine: "Please call me ’Air’."
Maya was still thinking of a response when Nightmare in the car ahead shouted, "Titan."
A Titan had appeared outside a bus stop. This was a three-lane road with obstacles on two lanes, forcing cars to pass by the Titan.
Nightmare reached over to the passenger seat for a submachine gun, switched it to his left hand, and extended the weapon out of the window. The gun spat out ’pff’ continuous shots, hitting the Titan. Lin Wu pulled the trigger, switching his rifle from burst to automatic, and emptied the magazine in 10 seconds. As they passed by the Titan, it stumbled backward from Nightmare and Lin Wu’s relentless fire, and by the time it regained its footing, the cars had passed.
Seeing Maya’s car pass successfully in the rearview mirror, Nightmare breathed a sigh of relief, "Only one obstacle left: the Fire Department."
The road in front of the fire department is the only way to Southward Town, not more than 700 meters long, but it’s the worst section Lin Wu had seen, where you can’t drive straight for more than 15 meters. To get through these 700 meters, you must constantly weave left and right across four lanes. And there’s only one way; a wrong turn leads to a dead end.
Eight minutes later, Nightmare informed, "We’re about to enter the car graveyard, maintain a speed of 30, and adapt on-the-fly."
The car entered the graveyard, advanced about ten meters, and Nightmare rapidly turned the wheel, switching from lane 1 to lane 2, squeezing between two cars to get to lane 3. After moving another 5 meters, Nightmare turned left again, darting from lane 3 to lane 1, and quickly switched to lane 2.
With this speed, Lin Wu found it hard to prevent zombies from invading. However, the many obstacles meant the driver could crush the zombies by maneuvering skillfully, as long as they didn’t cling to the front or rear of the car. Lin Wu focused on keeping the vehicles’ fronts safe from zombies. If they got on the hood, the car would start smoking after 10 seconds and be destroyed in 20.
A zombie missed Nightmare’s car but slipped between the two vehicles and landed on the hood of Maya’s car. Maya controlled the steering wheel with both hands, unable to free herself. Lin Wu fired, his first shot hit Maya’s windshield due to the turning, startling her. Not daring to aim for a headshot anymore, Lin Wu’s second shot hit the zombie’s back. The zombie faltered, slid off, and got crushed under the car, reducing the car’s durability.
Maya urgently said, "Lin Wu, watch out for Frenzy."
On the side, atop an abandoned car’s roof was a Frenzy. It leaped, not landing on the roof but in the pickup bed. Supposed to harm Lin Wu, the pickup swerved abruptly, flinging Lin Wu and the Frenzy together. Immediately after, bullets hit the Frenzy in the head at an unbelievable angle, and once again a headshot took it down.
"Exploding Carnage," warned Nightmare as an Exploding Carnage appeared to the front side, presenting a tough challenge. Shooting it in the head was extremely difficult, and igniting the Exploding Carnage would produce a toxic cloud for 10 seconds in an unavoidable spot. If not shot, it would come charging with its slender legs.
Nightmare was uncertain, so he shouted, hoping Lin Wu would handle this. Lin Wu wasn’t confident either, but he had a trick up his sleeve. Before Nightmare even yelled, Lin Wu had already spotted the Exploding Carnage, difficult to ignore due to its distinct figure.
Lin Wu, with his Full Power Value, had already taken out an Incendiary Grenade before Nightmare shouted. Unlike Molotov Cocktails, which needed to be lit, the Incendiary Grenade could be thrown directly. He tossed the grenade, not hitting the Exploding Carnage, but an abandoned car. The ensuing fire ignited the Exploding Carnage, causing it to explode on the spot. With the wrecked cars as barriers, the blast did not severely damage the pickup.
Both vehicles sped through the flames, and after a hundred meters of turmoil, they finally left the fire station road. Stepping on the gas, they accelerated and left the approaching zombies far behind, prompting all three of them to cheer together.
...
Southward Town was also surrounded by mountains, but unlike other areas, Southward Town featured grassland terrain. Both high mountains and mounds were covered with lush grass, with scarcely any trees or even shrubs in sight. This terrain led to an overabundance of hares and ground squirrels, with holes they had burrowed visible all over the roadside mountains.
"A hunter’s paradise."
Nightmare said, "The premise of a hunter’s paradise is having plenty of bullets. It is said that the hardcore players here initially set their sights on these animals, but later found that it was difficult to catch rabbits from their burrows, whether by smoking them out or flooding them. Thus, Southward Town also spawned the saying, ’five taels of meat per bullet.’
Maya asked, "Do you come here often?"
Nightmare replied, "The transportation is inconvenient, so I can’t say I come here often. Nightmare’s points are not low, and I even suspect that Nightmare now has more points than me. He went to Left County to hunt me down, so naturally, I would come to Southward Town to ambush him. His reputation here is poor, and many people are willing to help me. The Fortress’s operations often involved mutual harm, so I know his situation very well."
Lin Wu asked, "What about Blood Meng?"
Nightmare said, "Blood Meng only trusts those weaker than herself. On the surface, it seems like she and Nightmare are allies, but in reality, they don’t get along. It’s just that because of me, they end up teaming up in every operation. I haven’t targeted her for a hunt, but I have been to Right County’s North Down Town, during the Repeating Crossbow incident. We met by chance, chatted for a bit, and made a trade. She went to the safe house to fetch the trade goods, so I can only pinpoint the general location of her safe house."
Nightmare continued, "I was surprised she could make it to Left County. I’m referring to the joint sniper attempt on you, because after the operation period, we don’t have the airdrop service. I checked the tunnel back where we came from; the Blood Heart and the Blood Plague Titan are still there, so she couldn’t have come through the tunnel to Left County. Thinking it over, there’s only one route left: crossing over the mountain range above the tunnel."
Lin Wu said, "The Titan is not a problem."
"Oh?"
Lin Wu said, "Let’s first check out the loot." Handling the Titan is just a matter of a few .50 bullets. With Lock Head and Forest Wolf, I can take on a Titan with no pressure. If Nightmare’s safe house doesn’t turn up anything valuable, then there’s no need to waste bullets clearing the tunnel."
While talking, Nightmare drove the car off the main road and onto a dirt track, climbing for about two kilometers before reaching a herder’s tent. Nightmare took out a pistol, entered the tent, and after a few gunshots, came back out, "There are basically no zombies around. The previous two times I came, I used this place as a base. Nightmare’s safe house is right below the hill, in a motorcycle repair shop about four hundred meters away."
Looking at Maya, Nightmare asked, "Wait for daylight here, or take our chances and head down in the dark?"
Maya said, "Lin Wu, check it out."
Lin Wu released the drone, and Nightmare said, "About 400 meters away, there is a signal tower fenced off with iron bars, originally designed to keep unauthorized personnel from climbing. The motorcycle repair shop is located 30 meters to the east of the signal tower."
As they spoke, the drone had already reached its position, repeatedly searching the area between the repair shop and the herder’s tent. Five minutes later, Lin Wu confirmed, "I haven’t found any human traces, but I can’t rule out someone inside the safe house."
Nightmare looked at Maya, "Shall we go now?"
Maya said, "Let’s go."
