Chapter 509: Chapter 257: The Strongest
Maya didn’t refuse, as she also wanted to figure out the airdrop mechanism. After assigning everyone to their combat positions, Maya spent 100 honors to initiate the airdrop. Two currents of electricity visibly rose from either side of the signal tower and converged on the sphere at the top, followed by a long alarm sound from the two loudspeakers below the sphere.
The system voice from the airdrop room announced, "3-star airdrop is on the way, expected to arrive within 10 minutes. Please keep the signal activated for the next 10 minutes."
The land outside the safe zone began to flicker with white light, and zombies were spawned one after another. In addition to them, zombies 150 meters outside the safe zone were also attracted by the sound waves, quickly heading toward the Doomsday Fortress. Due to the special terrain of the Doomsday Fortress, there was an uproar of zombies at the intersections and along the seaside roads.
Standing at the bow of the boat, Lin Wu threw a smoke grenade toward the intersection, then jumped into the water. Outside the south gate, Horse Soul and Little Knife, each with a crossbow, covered Lin Wu as he climbed the dyke and retreated into the south gate together.
Shells followed soon after, a minute of shelling splitting the zombie tide into two parts: one that had already rushed into the base and one that had just been spawned.
Previously, the zombies were facing the assassin Lin Wu, so they could roam freely within the base. But this time they were not so lucky. Little Knife alone defended the corridor, with the firepower of crossbows supporting from the second-floor passage.
Little Knife knocked out one zombie; another zombie was pushed over by those behind. Little Knife followed through by stomping its head to explosion. Knock out, stomp, knock out, stomp - punch and kick, powerful and domineering. What if they’re not stunned? Then another punch, just don’t fall, because if you fall, your head explodes. The zombies behind didn’t queue up, desperately squeezing forward, which meant the first zombie had no chance to make a move. As soon as it raised its arms, it was pushed over by its own kind.
However, with the shelling ending and the second wave of zombies joining, Little Knife was pushed back step by step. It couldn’t be helped—the impact was just too great. Although the first zombie had no chance to make a move, the strong impact from behind was equivalent to using its body to hit Little Knife. From the second floor’s Corridor Bridge, the southern gate corridor was filled with a dense mass of zombie heads.
The first floor was structured like the character "口" with an additional vertical stroke. Little Knife fought and retreated from the bottom of the vertical stroke to the base of the "口," after which a new reinforcement joined on each side: Maya and Shana.
The power of Maya’s Tang Sword was undeniable, and Shana’s Gale Combo was formidable as well, with an attack speed boost of 100% for 15 seconds, and her bludgeon even had a chance of crushing bones and skulls. The three of them chiseled away at the undead, bearing the impact and stabilizing the formation. When the pressure increased, Maya would call for help, "Lin Wu."
Upon receiving the command, Lin Wu, who was at the top level, would throw an Incendiary Grenade at the platform outside the south gate. In an instant, the zombies trying to squeeze into the base were all turned into burning corpses. The effect of the incendiary grenade was, of course, significant, but so was the cost – one barrel of gasoline could only make one grenade. It could only be used at critical moments.
Why could one barrel of gasoline only produce one incendiary grenade? Lin Wu certainly had complaints about this, and Little White Rabbit explained the conversion, emphasizing that this was a game.
The 3-star airdrop spawned many zombies, but very few Mutant Zombies. It posed some difficulty, but not too big of a problem.
After ten minutes, a parachute appeared in the sky, slowly descending toward the base. The zombies then retreated in disarray, fleeing beyond the safe zone. When they left the safe zone, a flash of white light, similar to their arrival, caused them to disappear without a trace.
In this battle, Little Knife was slightly injured, Maya was moderately injured, and Shana was also moderately injured. "Moderately injured" refers to being significantly wounded but not losing combat capability, while "seriously injured" means lacking combat ability and the ability to defend oneself. "Slightly injured" refers to being wounded but without affecting fighting capability, and not life-threatening.
As the airdrop was about to land beside the signal tower on the container, Dawn did something extremely foul – the parachute was ignited, turning to ash midair. A supply box landed squarely on the ground.
At this moment, Maya officially joined the ranks of cursing Dawn. Seeing the parachute, she realized its value might exceed that of the materials themselves and had devised ways to utilize it in her mind. In the end, she could only watch it burn to ash.
...
The airdrop box wasn’t large – it was about the size of a regular small suitcase. The group wondered how such a small box could contain both food and weapons. Lin Wu, ever the Doer, reached out, unlocked it, and the lid popped open.
Dawn had not airdropped physical items; instead, there were five cards placed inside the box. Lin Wu reached in and read the first card: "Three kilograms of rice, two kilograms of beef, two kilograms of wheat, olive oil, salt, MSG, pepper, vinegar, soybean paste, garlic, salad, chili, saffron."
Upon completion, the card disappeared, and the items listed appeared in the airdrop room.
Little Knife pushed Lin Wu aside, took a card, and read, "A Little Knife..."
"And then?"
"That’s it." Little Knife was frustrated and said to Lin Wu, "Dawn must be monitoring us." Otherwise, how could Little Knife get a Little Knife?
"Move along."
Little Knife pouted and moved away.
Lin Wu looked at Cotton, "Cotton, you try." If Cotton got cotton, they could confirm that Dawn was indeed messing with them.
Cotton didn’t hesitate, picking up a card and reading, "A police revolver." It was the worst kind of handgun, without doubt. Even so, it was still a firearm.
Shana joined in the fun and picked up a card, reading, "Three .22 bullets and one 7.62 bullet. Is this all?" Together, the items they got didn’t even weigh as much as the food Lin Wu drew.
