Chapter 50: Chapter 49 Highland Villa (Part 1)

Lin Wu and Shana were walking to the Highland Villa when Shana glanced at the Eagle Sand on Lin Wu’s weapons rack and said, "I used to have a gun like this."

Feeling guilty, Lin Wu asked, "Used to?" The guilt of a thief.

Shana sighed and said, "I was killed, and naturally, the gun was gone, too."

Lin Wu cautiously inquired, "Who did it?"

Without looking at Lin Wu, Shana smiled without smiling and looked ahead, "A person named Liangren."

Lin Wu lamented, "What a pity, when people die, their belongings are gone, too. Otherwise, the Eagle Sand is really handy."

"Isn’t that the truth," Shana changed the subject and asked, "Is there anything the base is still short on now?"

"That’s a long story," Lin Wu explained Stone’s view on winter preparations, indicating that both food and warm clothing were in short supply at the base. These two types of supplies were different, as everyone just needed a set of warm clothes, which would be enough, and they could choose not to go outside if it got too cold. Food, or more accurately, the base lacked a sustainable food supply.

This reminded Lin Wu of Tangtang. If horticulture was still available, and with power restored, plus the fertilizers Shana could make, the daily food output could reach 4 units or even more, along with his own Hunter bringing 1 unit of food daily, solving a large portion of the base’s daily food consumption.

Thinking of this, Lin Wu also talked about Cotton and Tangtang. Shana laughed and asked, "You don’t comment on Little Knife or Stone, but you can discuss Cotton and Tangtang?"

Lin Wu replied, "They have made great contributions to the base."

Shana nodded, "Lin Wu, you are a good man."

Lin Wu looked at Shana, "Do you know that’s the second biggest insult to a man?"

Shana asked curiously, "What’s the biggest?"

Lin Wu answered, "Useless. A man would rather be a bad person than be considered useless." Especially after marriage, the ugliest, most hurtful word a wife could throw at her husband was ’useless.’ Denying a person’s worth can severely damage their self-esteem.

Shana was about to say something when Lin Wu raised his hand, knelt on one knee, and took out the Eagle Sand to keep guard. They were on the main road in the middle of the commercial street. To their right, a two-person team was looting a shop, and on the left, another two-person team was searching Apartment 1. The distance between the left and the right was quite far; everyone just waved without greeting, and if the other party didn’t see it, it didn’t matter.

Maya saw the fist raised by Lin Wu and immediately took out the Crossbow Arrow, while Horse Soul, who was with her, pulled out a small handgun. The two crouched down and exited Apartment 1, hiding ten meters to the side of Lin Wu.

Shana crouched beside Lin Wu and asked softly as she saw him looking left and right, "What’s that sound?"

"Frenzy, two of them," Lin Wu glanced back at Maya and pointed in the direction of Building 5 on the left and straight ahead on the main road.

Maya responded: Understood.

Lin Wu waited for a while and then looked back at Maya, signaling that he would circle around from the right. Maya nodded in understanding, indicating she would follow up to deal with any unexpected situations that might arise.

Lin Wu leaned toward the commercial street, took a 20-meter stride, and gestured for Shana to follow. When Shana caught up, she whispered, "I know some combat skills, I can fight too."

"Shh," there were three. Three Frenzies blocked their way, with the nearest one about 20 meters away. At that moment, a Screeching Zombie staggered out from behind a van on the side of the road.

"Wait for me." Lin Wu approached, Wind Stinger took down the Screeching Zombie, and then it saw the nearest Frenzy.

Half of the road ahead was blocked by barriers of cement bollards, and the Frenzy was hiding underneath this row of bollards. Lin Wu walked ten meters to the left, gathered some twigs and paper scraps to start a fire, then retreated, threw a firecracker into the flames, and quickly ran back to Shana’s side.

As the firecracker made noise, the nearest number 3 Frenzy and about seven or eight other zombies gathered around the fire. Lin Wu saw his chance, "Let’s go." He led Shana through the gaps between the Frenzies and past the dangerous area.

Maya circled back to the store area and informed Snow Egg and Little Knife of the situation. She told them that three Frenzies had been spotted nearby. She would watch the Frenzies from the billboard and advised them to be cautious during scavenging, making as little noise as possible.

Maya had a bad feeling. The game had started for about 24 hours when they encountered the first Frenzy, and more Frenzies had been found sporadically. Today alone, there were three Frenzies in one area, indicating that Frenzies and other Mutant Zombies would likely become a normal occurrence. Yet, the skills and equipment of the players clearly hadn’t caught up.

Take Fortress as an example, Lin Wu needed firearms to fight Frenzies alone, and bullets were depleting with each shot. During the last defensive battle, Little Knife’s Trample Execution was currently the best zero-consumable method to eliminate a Frenzy. However, it also depended on luck; that time, the Frenzy just happened to run into Snow Egg’s hammer causing it to be stunned. Without the stun effect, could Little Knife take on a Frenzy alone?

From this, Maya thought of the stun status of zombies. Ordinary zombies could not be stunned. Only when Mutant Zombies suffered a fatal blow would they be stunned. Conversely, to inflict a fatal blow on a Frenzy, Little Knife would be able to trample it to death. The first thing that came to Maya’s mind was the Molotov Cocktail. The Molotov Cocktail was an item that could be used without much skill; a burning zombie was doomed, but would a burning Frenzy be stunned?

Let’s try tonight!

Additionally, Snow Egg’s ability to stun Frenzies with her hammer could also develop into a method of killing Frenzies. According to the current trends, teams without the capability to deal with Frenzies must be psychologically prepared for death before setting out.

...

The Highland Villa was isolated, with no neighbors around. The villa itself was spacious, including a three-story building, a garage, and a swimming pool. There was a large, beautiful lawn in the backyard that stretched all the way to the cliff edge, dotted with numerous children’s toys and a big tree with a treehouse of about seven or eight square meters.

There were quite a few zombies inside and outside the villa, scattered around, more than twenty in total, including several Screeching Zombies and an Exploding Carnage.

"This thing is tricky," Lin Wu said, referring to the Exploding Carnage. The only way to prevent the Exploding Carnage from exploding was a long-range headshot. When headshot, the Exploding Carnage deflated like a balloon, eventually collapsing dead as a skin sack. One of the characteristics of the Exploding Carnage was its small head. Lin Wu didn’t bring a handgun, and if Eagle Sand fired a shot, the surrounding zombies would swarm over.

"I’ll take care of it," Shana said before slowly sneaking forward, observing the direction the nearby zombies were facing, and threading her way through the horde to get close to the Exploding Carnage.

The Exploding Carnage spotted Shana and immediately ran at her. Shana turned and ran. Because it pursued too fiercely, the Exploding Carnage fell over within seconds, and the fallen zombie exploded. The agile Shana had already run out of danger, and only three zombies followed her. The rest were attracted by the explosion and went over to investigate.

Shana delivered a kick, beautiful like a Taekwondo high kick to the zombie’s face, different from a high kick which was meant to be lethal; Shana’s stomp was gentler, aimed at knocking the zombie down—clearly, a technique from the Skill System.

Lin Wu guessed it must be an Agility skill, and couldn’t fathom how Dawn had designed this Skill System. Cotton and Tangtang both chose Agility, but no matter how they trained and strived, they couldn’t replicate Wind Stinger.

With the zombie on the ground, Shana gripped her baseball bat with both hands and, like playing golf, smashed the zombie’s head. This scene was familiar to him. Lin Wu was reminded of the Fortress agents who used the same execution move, the difference being they wielded metal clubs, while Shana used a regular baseball bat.

The girl sure knew how to play; she was almost stronger than him. Huh? Doesn’t that make him super skilled? That doesn’t seem right, praising himself—even though he didn’t say it aloud, it still made him feel embarrassed.
