Chapter 488: Chapter 248 New Chapter_3
As long as everyone doesn’t litter, tidying up isn’t really considered work, it can just be handled by attentive individuals in their daily routine. Horse Soul has the kitchen boost, so cooking isn’t a problem either. The only real issue is doing the laundry.
The good news is the system has shown some mercy: undergarments will permanently stay dry and clean, and even if they get dirty, they will be refreshed. The bad news, of course, is that outer garments, pants, and shoes do not receive such treatment. Some people change their clothes every day, while others change once a week. How to arrange the task to make it fairer was the focus of the meeting.
Lin Wu looked at Maya beside him, "I don’t know how to do laundry." It wasn’t that Lin Wu was inept; 99% of Blue Star people didn’t know how to do laundry. After all, with high-tech washing machines available, who would bother to learn?
Why washing machines and not robot nannies? Because robots are restricted by Dawn Law, which only allows their use in extremely dangerous jobs that are a must; moreover, the law also prohibits clones. If humanity cannot reproduce naturally, then human civilization should come to an end right there.
Maya nodded lightly, "I can do it."
"Hmm?"
Maya said, "I’ll wash it, wash yours, as a favor, for free," she spat out quickly, to avoid any nagging in her ear.
Maya’s straightforwardness actually made Lin Wu feel somewhat guilty. Perhaps laundry was simple for Maya, but for Lin Wu, who had no clue how to wash clothes, it seemed like a huge favor.
Up until now, the operations of the Shadow base had been sustained by the players’ enthusiasm and sense of responsibility. Clearly, doing laundry was a task that none of them enjoyed.
One solution was to take turns, but the issue with taking turns was that some people didn’t wash clothes thoroughly, while others did. When compared, it easily led to complaints. I wash your clothes very clean, and you return mine as if they haven’t been washed at all—no one would be happy with that.
Horse Soul was a chef, and technically he should not be responsible for a laundry rotation, but didn’t everyone have their own jobs? Stone was a farmer, Su Shi was in charge of crafting, Shana led teams, and members went out on adventures. Was it fair to ask Horse Soul to handle both the cooking and join the laundry rotation?
Another method was self-nomination. But, there was no fun in doing laundry—it was just a task. Maybe someone would be enthusiastic for a month or two, but could they keep up the spirit for a year? What would someone who does laundry full-time think? Would they feel they’re making the biggest contribution? Would they need to be arranged to do other tasks in their daily routine? Self-nomination wasn’t the ultimate answer, after all.
Yet another method was to recruit a dedicated laundry worker, but after having pressed Dashuang into the laundry basin before, where could one now find such a compliant person? Willingness to do laundry was different from being forced to do it. A bad attitude could easily cause trouble in a large group setting.
After much discussion, the decision was to pair up and rotate the laundry duty every two days.
That’s why Lin Wu didn’t like attending meetings. If something needed to be discussed in a meeting, it usually meant there wasn’t a very good solution. Typically, Stone would make a unilateral decision. If it involved the kitchen, it would be Horse Soul’s responsibility. If it was about fieldwork, Shana took charge. The regular members were in charge of supervision. In other words, this meeting was called because Stone couldn’t come up with a solution on his own.
But Lin Wu, although intelligent, did not fully understand Stone’s intentions.
Stone perceptively realized that laundry could become the first problem they’d have to face in Hardcore Mode. He knew that no plan would satisfy everyone, so calling a meeting was merely a strategy. By discussing the issue with everyone, a barely acceptable solution was agreed upon, thereby avoiding the dissatisfaction that direct execution of the plan might cause.
After the meeting, Doomsday Fortress took away a few barrels of gasoline and some supplies. Entering Hardcore Mode, the trunk space in vehicles was halved, as only building materials remained as a type of supply pack. Gas and such could be piled up in the pickup’s bed or stuffed inside the cabin.
Having had another lunch at Shadow, packed some stir-fried noodles for Peanut on duty, Lin Wu and the others said goodbye to everyone and left in the pickup truck, heading back to Doomsday Fortress.
