Chapter 469: Chapter 241: In the Mountains (Part 1)_3

Shana asked seriously, "I have a serious question for you. Suppose in Hardcore Mode our resources are insufficient, the base is on a downward spiral, and everyone starts blaming each other, with the leaders losing their credibility, what are your plans?"

Lin Wu replied, "There are two kinds of good people in the world; the first kind desperately makes money to spend on the poor. So I would work hard and try my best to turn the situation around."

Shana asked, "But what if you’re incapable of turning things around? For instance, if there’s a shortage of medication and disease spreads, or a lack of Serum leads to many infections, or if continuous heavy rain destroys the base. Or internally, if someone’s personal, emotional, or lifestyle issues disrupt the harmony, and so on."

Lin Wu said, "The second type of good person tells the poor to get lost, that way they’re out of sight and out of mind."

Shana chuckled, "So you’re saying you would choose to leave?"

"Perhaps," Lin Wu said.

Shana continued, "If you plan to leave, who would you leave with? For example, if Shadow were to go under, who would you start a new venture with?"

Lin Wu looked at Shana, "That’s a probing question."

Shana nodded noncommittally. Should she choose capable people, harmonious ones, or those she liked?

Lin Wu was frank, counting on his fingers, "Not Stone; he lacks the energy, more suited for starting a business when the economy is good, else he might die before the venture is half done. So choose those with strong survival skills. Maya, Little Knife, and Peanut would be my first choices. Of course, Shana, you’re also under consideration."

Shana uncrossed her arms and glared.

Lin Wu went on, "These people are either steadfast, reckless, or optimistic, free from negative emotions. Next comes picking skills: Maya, abandoning Leadership to become a doctor; Peanut dropping scouting to do crafting; Little Knife harvesting herbs; and I’d be hunting. The four of us could hunker down in a small cabin in the woods and survive."

Shana was puzzled, "Why not take me?"

Lin Wu replied, "Of course I’d take you; you could make clothes. We’ve talked a lot, but I feel something’s off with you today."

"It’s nothing."

"Hmph, then I won’t take you."

"Juvenile Ghost." Shana lay back down, fixing her gaze on the sunlight filtering through the canopy, "The thing with Horse Soul and Snow Egg must’ve given you quite a headache, huh?"

"It’s all in the past," Lin Wu said.

After a long silence, Shana asked, "Am I very beautiful?"

Lin Wu was taken aback, "I usually don’t have the nerve to ask others if I’m very handsome. Because I know I am, and people might think I’m just showing off."

Shana said, "Maybe I know what the issue is. You, Maya, Little Knife, and the others, you have a direction, ambitions, passion, while I am more delicate, focusing on emotional needs."

"Hey, lady, even though it’s just two of us and a dog, you praise yourself so much, I can’t keep up with your pace."

Shana turned to face Lin Wu, "What’s your take on ’femme fatale’?"

Lin Wu replied, "Because no one cares about the survival of a ’homme fatale’."

"That’s not what I mean." Shana tossed a blade of grass at Lin Wu, "I mean, when a girl is beautiful, it can provoke jealousy and suspicion from other women and easily attract the favor of men."

"Your husband is female."

"Speak properly."

"I’m not speaking properly because I don’t want to answer such questions."

"Why?"

Lin Wu sighed, "Because it is an affliction I was born with." Looking good is a curse I can’t shake off.

"Just drop dead."

"My rule is, if I’m not planning to get involved emotionally, then I won’t discuss any matters of the heart. For example, if you ask, ’Wai often sneaks glances at you, does he like you?’ I have no such feelings towards Wai, nor any intention to pursue anything; thus, I won’t answer such questions. Your question clearly isn’t suitable for me, as I have no intent of entering your emotional world."

"I thought we were friends?"

"We are friends; I’d contribute to your wedding, take care of your body if you committed suicide, but if you’re asking whether you could get married or if it’s worth committing suicide, that’s not a question I, as your friend, can answer. I like to deal with the practicalities, if there’s something you need, just say the word, and if you need help, just ask." Lin Wu added, "Don’t talk to me about who likes you, who you like, how you like them, the ins and outs of it all. Just tell me directly if you need me to organize a wedding or a funeral."

"I don’t act like a sycophant or a confidante," Lin Wu said. This was also one of the reasons why Lin Wu had reduced his interactions with Little Knife and kept jokes to a minimum after Little Knife and Snow Egg confirmed their relationship.

"Hmph, Wai, come cuddle with your cousin; we’ll ignore him," Shana huffed, summoning Wai, who happily leapt into her embrace with the master’s permission. And with that, the conversation came to an end.
