Chapter 46: Chapter 45 The Hun Dan Incident
Because of that statement, Horse Soul and Snow Egg got into a fight, and Little Knife, who had never dealt with a brawl before—her trump card was covering mouths and stepping on heads—could only seek Maya’s help. After Maya’s intervention, she believed Horse Soul truly hadn’t noticed, since the entrance to the male and female toilets was at the front, while the cleaning room was inside a small iron door at the back. Snow Egg was dissatisfied with Maya siding with Horse Soul; he had seen Horse Soul go around the back of the toilet, and it was impossible not to see the small iron door. He deliberately didn’t take it.
Enraged, Horse Soul asked, "What if I didn’t take it? If you want to be the hero, find it yourself. Why drag us into your flirting? Lin Wu is still out there in the wilderness catching a breeze."
It was hard to say who was right or wrong in this matter, so Maya couldn’t explicitly support either side, and Little Knife, not good at breaking up fights, could only stand by anxiously.
While the four of them were discussing, arguing, and trying to mediate, Little Knife noticed that Woman A was being attacked by several zombies thirty meters away and had already fallen. She shouted loudly for help. But by the time the four rushed over, it was too late; Woman A died on the spot.
Snow Egg felt guilty for not having protected Woman A and looked at Horse Soul, asking, "Are you satisfied now?"
Horse Soul, upon hearing this, cursed furiously.
Maya told them all to get in the car; it was getting late, and she was also worried about Lin Wu waiting alone in the wilderness. Any issues could be discussed back at base.
Where there are more than two people, there will be conflicts, the difference lies in whether they can tolerate each other. To maintain a happy and stable marriage, tolerance is even more important than love. It’s normal to have disagreements and disputes in group living, but the outcome is uncertain. Maybe people would go their separate ways, or maybe they would understand and tolerate each other.
Curious baby Lin Wu wondered, "Can Stone handle this? If he can’t, will these two cause a rift? In the end, will the two conflicting individuals live together, or will someone leave?"
This matter was similar to the death incident of Tangtang. Su Shi wasn’t wrong, Tangtang wasn’t wrong either. If someone had to be held responsible for Tangtang’s death, then Su Shi was at fault, and Maya, who arranged the personnel, was also at fault. If Horse Soul and Snow Egg kept up their opposition, it could easily lead other people to take sides.
Little Knife was closer to Horse Soul, so when she objectively described the event, she personally believed that Horse Soul didn’t deliberately ignore the medical bag. Snow Egg was better friends with Su Shi, so what would they say? Lin Wu was generally on the night shift; it was rare for him to spend a day outside in the wilderness. He maintained a neutral stance towards both Snow Egg and Horse Soul, and he didn’t know whom he should console. He believed that Stone and Maya were also neutral.
For Lin Wu, he was merely curious about how the situation would unfold, and he didn’t feel worried about the development of the base because of this; these were Stone’s concerns, not his to ponder.
Stone understood the situation between Snow Egg and Horse Soul quite well; he knew that they had never got along, barely speaking to each other in day-to-day life. This related to some issues from the first night of the game. Maya wouldn’t mediate personal disputes; she believed such issues were private matters. As long as they didn’t violate the rules or harm the group’s interest, she allowed such personal disagreements to exist. Much like a department manager can’t mediate conflicts in the private lives of employees, nor can they demand that no conflicts arise among employees. Doing so would be imposing their will on subordinates and meddling in their private matters.
Little Knife asked, "Hey, who do you support?"
"Huh?" Lin Wu was taken aback, "Do I need to support someone?"
After thinking for a moment, Little Knife said, "I don’t know. In college, some conflicts would occasionally arise in the dorm. Those who were close would stick together, deliberately isolating others."
Lin Wu asked, "So you were the one being isolated, right?"
Little Knife was shocked, "How did you know?"
Lin Wu said, "Because sticking together doesn’t mean isolating others. Only someone who is oversensitive would think the others are ganging up to isolate them. I’ve experienced similar situations. Unless it’s with a best friend, we all stayed neutral."
"What was the outcome?"
Lin Wu said, "A second conflict erupted. After the school intervened by moving one person to another dorm, the situation calmed down. The relationship between the two remained bad until graduation. There were exceptions; I’ve also had conflicts with others, and the next day, we were back to normal."
Little Knife asked, "What conflicts?"
Lin Wu said, "During the World Cup live broadcast, we wore the jerseys of each other’s arch-rivals."
"That’s so childish."
"Childish or not," it was a time of youthful fervor. At one in the morning, the two of them walked out of the dormitory, each shouting the name of the team they supported. The entire building echoed back, and the conflict spread throughout the male dormitory. Everyone was banging on pans, setting off fireworks, and no one would back down. Lin Wu said, "I’ll stick with the night shift; I don’t like awkward atmospheres." Not liking awkward atmospheres, and not having the ability or intent to change them.
As evening fell, Little Knife looked toward the base, where the lights were shining brightly. In the past, she would have returned to the base happily, but today, she didn’t want to go back, preferring to bully the stray zombies in the darkness with Lin Wu. Luckily, Little Knife could always find something to be happy about.
"Look, that zombie over there just respawned."
Facing Little Knife’s excitement, Lin Wu was baffled, "Of course, it respawned." This was a game, after all; otherwise, how long would it take you to build a medical room? Nor would the medical room offer various functions.
"No, I mean this is the first time I’ve seen a zombie respawn."
She was right, zombies in the game respawned based on two principles. The first principle: apart from special circumstances, they normally appeared 15 meters away from the player, the special circumstance being the Blood Plague Guard. The second principle: zombies wouldn’t respawn inside the safe zone, but that didn’t exclude the possibility of lost zombies wandering in.
"I’m telling you, I found another Blood Plague today, and it wasn’t guarded by a Blind Bat this time."
Curiously, Little Knife asked, "What was it then?"
Lin Wu said, "I don’t know, but I think it’s the most erratic of the mutant zombies we’ve encountered so far."
Shouting came from the edge of the cliff, "You two down there, it’s getting dark. Time to go home and snuggle."
...
Having a lot of rest time led to more interactions among the members, making it impossible to avoid anyone. Lin Wu didn’t want to go to the backyard, but the main activities of the base were there, even sleeping. Upon arriving in the backyard, he found that only Maya was there by the campfire. Horse Soul had requested to be moved to an indoor dormitory, so now Little Knife and Horse Soul were the only two inside, probably entering their "bestie talk" time.
Snow Egg had gone to rest, Su Shi was perpetually sorting trash, continually dismantling items, then categorizing, and finally reassembling them.
Having electricity made a real difference; the whole backyard was brightly lit, making it exceptionally comfortable. Stone brought over a table that Su Shi had just made, placed it somewhere in the backyard, and said, "I plan to turn this open space in the backyard into a recreation room for the base."
