Chapter 417: Chapter 220: Night Banquet _3
"Oh?" Everyone sought an explanation, Lin Wu included.
Su Shi said, "Take today, for instance. He forced everyone to honor their bets. No one else could have done that, or would have even dared to try. And again today, he turned the chained tasks into something fun, forcing everyone to hustle along with him."
Lin Wu: "Su, you’ve turned traitor."
Su Shi said with a smile, "It feels great to stand with the masses. I get to eat oysters and avoid being criticized."
So far, the mood was good, but everyone was most worried about Maya. Maya always spoke earnestly, and she could easily ruin the mood the moment she opened her mouth.
After the others had lightly glossed over the matter, finally, Maya gave her opinion: "Lin Wu is imaginative, but I wouldn’t say he’s very clever. He has his own perspective on things, death included, which is why he keeps taking risks. He lacks self-discipline, demonstrating a spirit of research when interested in something, but completely ignoring what doesn’t interest him. He’s the team’s uncontrollable and unstable factor, able to bring surprises to everyone but also capable of giving everyone a scare at any moment."
Just as everyone expected, there was a second of awkward silence after Maya spoke. Lin Wu applauded: "Good, well said."
Maya was startled: "Not all of it was praise for you."
Lin Wu said, "The fact that you publicly praised me shows I must have reached a level of excellence that you couldn’t resist commending to my face."
Maya shuddered all over, asking, "And what about the criticism?"
Lin Wu said, "You hope to catch my attention. Because when everyone is singing my praises, I only take notice of those who critique me." A pile of oyster shells flew at him from all directions.
Lin Wu ducked for cover: "Don’t aim for the face, don’t throw, don’t—stop... I’ll tell you a huge secret."
Everyone stopped and waited. Lin Wu gathered his thoughts, while Shana saw right through him: "He’s making it up."
"No, I’m not," Lin Wu said. "Little Knife..."
Everyone was all ears. Lin Wu: "Little Knife is super cute." As an honest person, he really couldn’t make up any news on the spot.
Seeing the dissatisfaction, Lin Wu stood up and challenged, "Who disagrees? If you disagree, raise your hand."
Little Knife also stood up, nodding vigorously, while Stone sighed, "This is what Little Knife called the ability to think on one’s feet."
In laughter and joy, the oyster feast came to a close. Lin Wu wasn’t the star of the oyster feast throughout—Horse Soul, Emerald Feather, and others each became the center of attention for a while. With Lin Wu managing the mood and Stone controlling the rhythm, everyone was happy with tonight’s gathering. Therefore, they decided on a weekly mahjong night, meaning they would take one day off every week.
In an apocalyptic environment, it’s not very hard to have abundant living supplies, but maintaining a positive and optimistic atmosphere is the most difficult. It wasn’t something Lin Wu could achieve alone. Stone made life-prioritizing decisions, Maya led the team to work more efficiently and safely; every reason contributed. Each person diligently did their part. This was what allowed Shadow to emanate an overall uplifting spirit.
Up until today, Shadow had withstood numerous updates and tests. To perpetuate the spirit of Shadow before disbanding, Stone made one last request: "For Shadow, people are the most important, not their skills. Even if powerful individuals gather together, without cohesion, they will simply turn on each other. But even the weakest, if united, can envision a future."
Lin Wu was about to leave, but hearing Stone go on and on, he said, "If you have something to say, just say it. I’m in a hurry to get home and sleep."
