Chapter 391: Chapter 211 Rest Day

With the fall of the last zombie, the siege came to an end.

Lin Wu picked up Wai and sat against the wall, applying a bandage to himself and performing a skill treatment on Wai. Stone, who seemed a decade older, had also lost all sense of composure, plopping down near Lin Wu, leaning against half a conference table, and taking a serum syringe out of his backpack to inject himself.

Stone appeared to lack even the strength to pull out the syringe, allowing it to stay jabbed into his thigh. He swallowed a painkiller and then took out two cigars, clipping off the ends and lighting one before tossing it at Lin Wu’s feet. Too lazy to explain that he didn’t smoke, Lin Wu put the cigar in Wai’s mouth. Stone drew a deep breath of smoke, held it, and then, tilting his head back to look at the sky, slowly exhaled.

Stone: "More exhausting than wrangling with my ex-wife."

Lin Wu chuckled, "Su Shi is still in the trunk."

"If you don’t feel like moving, just let him stay there, I can’t be bothered," said Stone, assessing the base’s damage. They had lost 15% of supplies, and 8% of items, which included an assault rifle. The crafting area was completely destroyed, and the medical room was partially damaged. In the past, such losses would have incensed him, but now he didn’t even have the strength to be angry. It wasn’t a lack of physical strength, it was sheer mental exhaustion. Ten minutes of high-intensity combat had depleted a middle-aged man’s vitality.

Fortunately, it was Lin Wu left behind today. Had it been anyone else, the outcome would have been unthinkable. Perhaps Maya could have withstood it, but the likely result would have been Maya’s death or severe injury, and the base’s bandages wouldn’t have lasted until the reinforcements could arrive.

When the reinforcements arrived, Su Shi had been let out of the trunk and was busy mending the conference table with nails—the only large table next to the bonfire. Stone and Lin Wu went to the medical room for treatment of their bleeding and fractures. Seeing how minor their injuries were, everyone, including Maya, had underestimated the difficulty of this battle.

Neither Lin Wu nor Stone claimed any credit; in fact, they didn’t even want to discuss the fight. The recollection brought them no joy, only fatigue, and they could barely remember the specifics of what had happened.

After ten minutes of treatment, the seven-person day shift set off again. They had received the system notification while climbing a water pipe; their mission hadn’t even started yet.

Once the reinforcements left, Lin Wu and Wai continued to play dead on the conference table; Don’t think Lin Wu was being lazy—he and Wai were engaged in a willpower contest named: Playing Corpses. Also known as: Pretending to be Dead.

Stone was brewing tea at the sentry post. He enjoyed Kung Fu tea, while Lin Wu only liked black tea; the two couldn’t agree on this matter. The only change was that Su Shi had accelerated the pace of making birdcages.

Seeing Su Shi busily working in the newly built crafting area, Lin Wu spoke up through the headset, "It’s fine not to make birdcages when all ten of us are around. When half of us are gone, having birdcages won’t be of any use."

Su Shi replied, "Making them is an attitude towards life; using them is a choice. Not wanting to run a marathon is because you don’t want to run, not because you can’t."

Lin Wu: "Su Shi, when did you get so deep?"

Stone: "Exactly, even deeper than me."

Su Shi didn’t answer but asked, "Do we have enough building materials, or should we dismantle the beach first?"

Stone replied, "Everyone works so hard; building a beach for rest and relaxation is only right."

Lin Wu frowned, "I always feel there’s something not quite friendly about that statement."

Su Shi agreed, "Same here, I feel like I’ve been duped somehow but I just can’t pinpoint it. Also, why use the Universal Card to build Resource Beach? And why does a beach need 48 hours?" A leisure beach takes 10 minutes, with no need for a Universal Card.

Stone: "You two are just suspicious by nature."

Su Shi: "No, knowing you, I believe there must be a problem."

Stone smiled slyly, "But you’ll never find the problem. Sleep, get some early rest, you can talk it through slowly."

Spending time with two middle-aged men, Lin Wu experienced a slow-paced life. Basking in the sun, feeling the breeze, it was utterly simple. They barely spoke all morning. Lin Wu thought of Shana, who had said that it was nice to live like this occasionally, but he couldn’t stand such a life day after day.

At 1:30 in the afternoon, the day shift returned home, mission failed.

The time limit for the 33rd floor’s mission was three hours. The group had spent two hours capturing 42 zombies, leaving only one hour to identify the master of the house. After reading through a lot of information, they were led into a trap by Dawn, sending the wrong person onto the helicopter, resulting in mission failure. The only good news was that because they had completed the 34th floor’s mission, six out of the seven people could now unlock the elevator with their fingerprints and use it to move freely around Left County Hotel.

On the way home, Maya and Shana discussed the mission details non-stop, realizing that Dawn had set a trap by bringing in someone with impressive credentials to mislead them. The real master of the house was likely a plain-looking servant they had overlooked. Upon review, they realized the servant was also a family member, but in the beginning, everyone had ruled out all hotel staff.

Six people drew lots, with Maya, Peanut, and Snow Egg joining Shana on a trip to Bounty Hunter Hall to retake the 33rd floor’s mission. Shana had planned to run this errand with Lin Wu and let Maya and the others continue looting the mall, but Lin Wu was nowhere to be found. Inquiring through the headset, she learned that Lin Wu was at the logging site to the north of the Meteorological Station base.

After mixing with two older folks for half a day, Lin Wu was fully reinvigorated. Considering it dangerous to operate alone, he chose to train at the sparsely populated logging site. To the north of the logging site was a reforestation project, followed by the vast mountain range.
