Chapter 371: Chapter 202 Section 4, Passage 2

The core focus of the swing set group in the factory was site selection. Therefore, only the backyard defense group truly needed to train in coordinated cooperation. Now, only one question remained, where to find furniture?

Easy, warehouse 88 next door had a large quantity of office supplies on the second floor. Office desks, computer chairs, conference tables, and the like all counted as furniture. Today, we wouldn’t go through the underground tunnels to clear a resource route, nor take the sky bridge to cut down Blood Plague zombies, but instead head to warehouse 88 to move.

To move more safely, Lin Wu led zombies, including Titans, out of the Sentry’s blind spots and into the shooting range, where the Sentry slaughtered them all, using human occupation as a way to keep Lin Wu and Emerald Feather holding down the front side of warehouse 88, preventing zombie respawn. Using ropes, the others transferred one piece of furniture after another from the second floor to the first, and finally carried it all to the base to set up in the backyard.

Now, entering the Sawmill through the north gate and proceeding to the backyard was a straight path like Mount Hua, with tables piled up on both sides. The rushing zombies either stayed in place and destroyed the tables or could only move forward. Eight meters ahead was a large circular conference table where a gunman lay prone, another squatted, and a third stood, the three of them with assault rifles sealing off the Mount Hua path.

After a day of hard work and training, the Sawmill had prepared a contingency plan for a siege. Before the sun set, Maya held a brief meeting to arrange work for tomorrow. At seven a.m. tomorrow, we will continue to explore sewer 99 and inspect exit number 4. If exit number 4 isn’t an ideal resource area, we will then explore exit number 2’s mall to establish the best scavenging route.

In the end, Maya said, "Emerald Feather will stay on duty at the base."

No one objected, and they all prepared to disperse when Stone felt something was off, "Why leave Emerald Feather behind? Is it because I’m no good?"

Maya answered, "Yes."

Stone asked, "Why?"

Maya seemed surprised that Stone would ask such a childish question and, seeing everyone stop and turn back to see the commotion, she directly answered, "Six out of ten shots don’t hit the head."

Stone, dissatisfied, "I don’t agree with your assessment of me."

Maya replied, "It’s not an assessment, it’s a fact."

Stone said, "I joined a shooting club when I was 18. I just seldom shoot. I admit I was a bit panicked during last night’s merchant-induced chaos, I agree with your staff arrangement, but I don’t agree with your unilateral view of my strength."

Lin Wu tried to mediate, "Stone, why humiliate yourself?"

Angry, Stone demanded, "Emerald Feather, give me your rifle."

Emerald Feather handed over the Forest Wolf, and Stone said, "Watch this." He then headed straight to the post.

Maya, puzzled, asked everyone, "What’s with Stone?"

Horse Soul said, "You can’t tell a man he’s no good."

Lin Wu added, "Especially in front of so many people."

Snow Egg commented, "I can understand Stone."

Su Shi suggested, "You could simply have said to let Emerald Feather stay to work with Stone."

Peanut shared, "As a boss, I can’t stand being called ugly. Even though I’m wealthy, I don’t care about looks and know I’m average, but if an employee said to my face that I’m ugly, I’d immediately tell them to get lost."

Maya explained, "I’m aware of the situation. But I thought Stone was above that."

Lin Wu drew out the Silencer, "All men are the same, they’re prideful. Whatever the level, he’d rather be seen as bad than dumb. Peanut."

"Got it." Peanut ran out the back door, pointed across the river at a zombie about 60 meters away next to a small tree and said, "That one there."

Lin Wu took position below the post, gun aimed and coordinated with the sound of the Forest Wolf, he pulled the trigger, and the zombie was shot in the head and fell to the ground.

Stone slowly descended from the post, glancing at Maya with both purpose and nonchalance, then casually handed the rifle back to Emerald Feather. In an apologetic tone, Maya said, "Sorry, I was too one-sided in my view."

"No, no," Stone replied, "I really did perform badly last night, your misunderstanding is understandable. Maya, put me on the schedule too. This shot has rekindled the dreams of my youth."

Curious, Lin Wu asked, "Old man, was your dream to be a marksman?"

Stone looked at Lin Wu with disdain, "No ambition."

Lin Wu did not understand.

"To meet girls," Stone replied, and then announced, "Let’s break up, everyone has worked hard today, get some good rest."

Everyone echoed in unison with an ’oh,’ and dispersed.

...

Spring rain is as precious as oil. Early in the morning, Lin Wu saw a fine misty rain enveloping the entire world. After spacing out at the doorway for a while, Maya called Lin Wu and Shana through the headset to have tea at the main base, pick up raincoats, and get ready to set off.

Today’s goal was the number 99 sewer exit 4. Exit 4 was a bit odd, not a straight ladder with a manhole cover but a vertical iron pipe, continuously spewing water from within.

Lin Wu took the lead, his body barely fitting into the iron pipe, climbing upward with the aid of friction, going higher and higher. Maya immediately had Snow Egg and Horse Soul lie down under the pipe to prevent Lin Wu from falling down and dying should he slip. In Homeland Medicine, disability wasn’t feared, only death was. Once dead, there was no helping it, but if you were missing an arm or leg, it could all be fixed.

Lin Wu controlled his stamina loss, using his body stuck in the pipe to recover endurance. After an unknown amount of time, he finally saw a rectangular manhole cover, but it was covered with a wire mesh to keep debris from flowing in. Lin Wu looked down and couldn’t see the bottom at all. As a lazy person, going back for tools was out of the question.

Lin Wu took out his dagger to use as a saw, cutting the wire mesh. The good news was that there was progress, but the bad news was that it was slow, probably taking about 20 minutes to finish cutting. What puzzled Lin Wu was the volume of drain water. Today it was raining, but the rain was light, yet the amount of water pouring down the sewer was not small.

Lin Wu dared not look up, afraid of getting choked by water. After cutting a wire, he looked up, only to have a bucket of water pour down on him, preventing him from opening his eyes. He wiped the water off his face with his arm and, once he could see clearly again, began cutting another wire.

Maya: "Lin Wu, respond."

Lin Wu: "I’m working... pah!" A gush of water entered his mouth; though logically it should just be rainwater, Lin Wu couldn’t shake the feeling it was water steeped in garbage.

Lin Wu with his head down: "Cutting the wire net."

Maya asked, "Is the wire thick?"

Lin Wu: "It’s thin."

Maya: "Use a gun."

"..." Lin Wu put away his dagger and pulled out Silent Night, shooting horizontally at the wire which broke three wires. Soon, Lin Wu shoved the manhole cover and wire mesh to the side: Maya didn’t know crap, he had wanted to save bullets.

...

Standing tall, Lin Wu surveyed his surroundings, and besides the signal tower, there were almost no buildings taller than where he was. This was a piece of land covering over 15,000 square meters, 35 stories high, the most luxurious hotel in Left County: Left County Hotel.

The hotel’s rooftop had two helipads, large in size, where the rainwater flowed toward the southeast ditch, and from the ditch, it went through the manhole cover, down the iron pipe.

Lin Wu explained his location, and Shana said, "The Left County Hot Spring Resort Hotel is 6 kilometers east of the Sawmill, 120 meters tall, a multifunctional five-star hotel."

Shana added, "I think the supplies in this hotel could last us until the end of the world."

Lin Wu: "I don’t have that long a rope. I only brought two coils of rope with me, adding up to just 70 meters."

Shana: "I brought a bundle."

Maya: "I brought a bundle, too."

"Then you have to come up," Lin Wu said. "Soldier zombies." The two helipads were located at the northeast and northwest sides of the rooftop, with a small building to the south containing two elevators and stairs. Lin Wu was on the southwest side; because his line of sight was blocked, he couldn’t see the condition of the northwest helipad clearly.

After spotting a soldier zombie, Lin Wu casually walked along the edge of the rooftop to the northeast position, where he saw a damaged helicopter. The helicopter was tilted to one side, its rotor blades broken, and parts were scattered all over the northwest corner. About thirty soldier zombies were milling around the helicopter in the rain.

Lin Wu’s gaze landed on ten green military boxes near the leaning helicopter, two of which were damaged, with eight intact. After explaining the situation, he added, "Military supplies."

Maya quickly said, "Big rewards come with big risks, don’t act recklessly. We are currently queuing up to climb, you scout the surroundings."

Little Knife: "Lin Wu, Wai can’t make it up."

Lin Wu: "Pass the headset to it."

Little Knife stuffed the headset into Wai’s ear, and Lin Wu instructed, "Stand by on the spot, and if there are zombies, find somewhere to hide on your own."

Snow Egg questioned, "Can it understand?"

Lin Wu: "That’s its business, I’ve done my duty as a master."

Everyone sighed in unison: It’s a dog, but he’s even more of a dog!
